Speak for yourselves, I had a blast with TLoU. If a game isn't fun for you, it doesn't necessarily mean the game isn't fun, it just means it's not your cup of tea. You should probably move onto something that you DO like instead of whining about how the game doesn't fit your preference.

last of us is a fun game lol and outlast, by our god Gabe newel Journey is the essence of fun emotionally, mechanically, visually or whatever its about having fun orgasm. Gamespot are high or something do your homework. ill name it for ya: That Dragon cancer, Kentucky route zero or Gone Home they don't aim at being fun. so any horror genre is about fun the fundamental reason of getting scared is Fun.

If I can get really immersed in a game and the hours just slip by, then that qualifies as a fun game. The problem is that most games look like that thanks to trailers, marketing and reviews. The onus falls on the gamer to take all the risk and buy a game.

I've forced myself to play games I dislike because I dropped $60 bucks on them. I've bought games that were highly reviewed and found myself having little fun (Undertale is a good example for me). Then there's games the world has crapped on that I've actually enjoyed (e.g. No Man's Sky).

To me the biggest factors that "trap" players into playing games they don't enjoy are positive reviews (I'll keep playing until I find that 9 out of 10 experience) and buyer's remorse (I have to get my money's worth).

Instead of defining certain games as 'not fun', why don't you define them for what they are?

'Do you play video games that are...' distressing (TLOU), minimalist (Journey/ABZU), chilling (Outlast), conflicting (Papers, Please), puzzling (Witness).

'Fun' is also too subjective. You can't assume everyone thinks the games you mentioned are not fun. I thought Papers Please was fun, but I wanted to finish TLOU and not touch it again.

That doesn't mean TLOU was a bad game though. A good game is not necessarily fun, just like books. Lolita is far better than Harry Potter, but Harry Potter is arguably more fun to read.

Is there any real reason to such debate exist?

If playing a game feels like a chore I wouldn't play it, I've got real chores to take care of.

I only played Last of us because everyone said it was good, didn't like it that much. Didn't even beat the DLC with just the girl.

The only single player story i have enjoyed in a while was GTA 5 and that was released some time ago.

Only Assassin's Creed 1-3. Eventually I learned that they do not get fun later on in the game, and the stories only aim to disappoint.

@doccobb: some people insist it isn't fun but enjoyed the story. Personally I thought the story was just sort of there most of the time, the game was however great!

i just wanted to say that sometimes I've played games in the past just because the story was so good, i just wanted to finish the game, not because i had "fun" playing. My most recent experience with that is "The Last of Us" i truly hated the combat in the game.. it pi$$ed me off every time i picked up the controller. BUT the story was so good, i wanted to see how it unfolded. YES.. I know.. i could have read about it, but i wanted to complete it myself. And i HATE grinding in RPG's just to get to the good stuff, but i still do it... Please understand, that doesn't happen a lot.. but to answer the question of the video, i think the answer is yes.. sometimes!

I stay away from things that are too serious. That goes for movies and t.v. shows too. If I'm going to relax with some form of media on my off time, it will be something fun and light. There's too much seriousness in the real world.

If I want to do it, its fun, so no. Every game has its "less fun" parts that can be annoying but you play it because the "fun" parts are more common, or the fun parts are so fun they are worth putting up with a good deal of annoying stuff.

Yes i play games that aren´t fun..

Im 36 and i cater to more story driven games than before. Rarely or never go on MP.

A good story well executed is a must for my old ass.. That is why TLOU hit homebase for me.

@Sindroid: 36 in 2 weeks and you nailed that comment haha. While TLOU may not be 'fun' in the childlike sense, I had an absolute blast playing. I can happily go from Outlast to Overcooked depending on what mood I'm in. Whether it's lighthearted arcade fun or nerve shredding tension.

Maybe it's an American term, but I don't think I've ever referred to a "Computer Game" as a "Video Game". Not really sure how the word Video fits in. I'm not really sure either how the word game is immediately associated with fun. There's probably millions of games in the world(computer games not withstanding), and they're not all fun, some games are also fun to some, but not to others. Maybe I'm getting a bit philosophical?

Yeah. I "play" MA: Andromeda. I got stuck for last two weeks in rebels planet and can't force myself to play the game for more than one hour. Though I still want to finish the game, - this is my way of playing not fun game.

Once games get repetitive and i see the same enemy's over and over it feels more like work to get your money's worth.

Maybe the word "entertaining" would be more in line with what video games currently are. It has a more broad definition than just the word fun.

Abzu definitely is a mostly an awe-inspiring game that's relaxing, but the swimming in it, just like the gliding in Journey, for me, is also definitely fun.
But I understand what you mean. I think you shouldn't describe a whole game as fun or not fun, but in which sense it's fun, what the main focus is of the game and if it's trying to do something different or not.
It's a very difficult subject to really explain in words.

Seems like you could have ordered the show better. You already addressed the title at the beginning but then kept bringing up comments about the same thing instead of moving forward & exploring some more interesting & thoughtful opinions.

What does fun even mean? Games that make you laugh? Let me disagree.

I think the right word would be "entertaining". I'm personally very entertained by challenging, or even downright hard games that preferably have a sad, bleak and heartbreaking stories, because those stories are usually more powerful.

Fun means different things to different people. Not everyone will agree on every game.
