They should've done it from the other end - start with the offline mode and then add the online mode.

And now as a punishment, create larger cities in offline mode because that was one of the things desired since the beginning too. I don't care how many months can take to create a new patch like that and edit the shitty engine to make bigger cities, simply do it. I think I can wait till then with offline mode. .. "uh a new toy".

Sorry, but people are NEVER going to trust EA. It's not like MS, who had a moment of thinking they knew better than the consumer. EA have, for years, shown an open contempt for the end user. That anyone is surprised that the user is beginning to show open contempt for them in return is amazing.

@mav_destroyer Because people do not know what Java is. Thats whats wrong. Java is epic. Except the browser implementation, which is not so good.

@uberjannie @mav_destroyer Which? Javascript or servlets? They both can be a pain.

But yeah, Java is one of the most used and supported programming languages out there.

@mav_destroyer Java is NOT JavaScript. Those are two completely different languages with different usage scenarious. I've used both of them. Unfortunately they picked so similar names and created such confusion. Why couldn't they call one of them at least Gava or GavaScript? :D

Anyone who defended Xbox One policies should take this as an example of how crap it was going to be not only the console release, but the game installation and autentication themselves. Do you see this Sevenizz, elegant_spock and acekidder?

@youre_a_sheep You have to switch the quality off of Auto. The algorithm for automatically setting video quality seems to be the culprit.

Wait this offline mode isn't the issue anymore. I mean you can still play online in a private room by yourself :S so what does offline mode mean because that isn't the issue anymore with anyone, the issue is and always has been the town sized cities sorry, not even town sized, more like village. i played sim city on my own anyway from the start, it's the size what matter in a game like this and i'll pick the next sim city up if they ever make a bigger version of it.

@bezza2011 @bezza2011 with offline they say you can save and load to your hearts content for one thing. an example was i researched the advanced solar power absorbers. and at nightime i switched from regular panals to advanced. turns out the battery power is stored in the panals not at the station so i lost all my power in the middle of the night and went from making like 12 k an hour to losing 30+k an hour. but if i was in offling i could save before making drastic changes to my cities just incase soemthing went wrong. and supposably offilng since it isnt multiplayer servers then there can be mods that effect the system and stuff like hourly cost and stuff like that. idk if that ones true or not i didnt understand there modding guidlines but technicly that would be more pheasable. and if u lose internet connection but still have power to ur computer you would be able to play simcity. it would be nice to be able to use a disaster in a large city w/o having to think about how i spent hours to get it large. then a monster or somethign come in risk destroying most of it. but playing in private is basicly what ive doen its pretty much the same cept without saving/loading and maybe modding. ive been really enjoying the game unlike most people it seems

For a simulation it still bugs me how fudged the population numbers get to make it look like you have a big city.

Not including Offline was no more an "oversight" than Microsoft's Xbox One "oversight." It was a deliberate attempt to shackle us to their servers, stop the modding community, make us pay $10 so Sims can wear Nike shoes, and be able to switch the game off just around the time the sequel arrives.

EA wasn't fooling anyone.

"Hello, and welcome to Feedbackula! The show that takes the rich beans of community input, grinds them down, and makes a delicious cup of Shut-The-F***-Up!"

That's the best opening line I've heard on Feedbackula. Excellent wordplay, Johnny-boy.

I'm rolling my eyes as hard as I can. As if anyone here knows anything about Java. They used Java for the client/server calls (to get data from other cities or whatever) because it's better. In offline mode there are no client/server calls, so they had to replicate the functionality in the C codebase.

I rather wait until the offline is implemented and how it works first before saying EA/Maxis did a good job due to back history.

Speaking as a long term Sim City fan (even though I've always sucked at playing them) it's about damned time. Now all they need to do is enlarge the city sizes and I will consider buying this game. It's taken far too long to implement a feature that should have been there to start with.

For now though I think I'll just switch on my CRT and carry on playing Sim City snes, or perhaps Sim City 2000 (I love gog).

EA is a semi-monopoly like Microsoft- they have franchises like Madden just MS has windows. In East Asia if you work here you HAVE to use windows for your job. If you want to play NFL football you have to use Madden.

These monopolies inevitably lead to corporate abuse of customers. I would say boycott them. I invested in Activision/Blizzard - now, Blizzard has done some bad stuff lately, but their overall track record is very good. One of the first PC games I loved was WC 2.

This segment looks like it's made by people at GS UK with too much time on their hands.
This video also needs serious editing.

@kingfish1984 some things just piss people off more than others. There's also the fact that after making such a dodgy decision in the first place (making it online only), a terrible launch, and most importantly explicitly stating that the game was impossible to make into an offline game, and then being forced to retract that statement because of a mod (albeit a simple one), and then finally actually making it offline can have a serious impact on a games reputation, and seriously hurt trust in a publisher that is already everyone's fav publisher to hate anyway. Now that it's been largely sorted I think people will slowly come around, but it's going to take a while before people can say better late than never.

I don't care if they fixed this or not. They still tried to make us play always online with a ridiculously small city and dlc. I have boycotted EA for years now. I was tempted when I first heard about SimCity. So glad I didn't cave.

The cardinal sin of Simcity isn't the online only or small maps. Were that the case, I'd own it by now. The cardinal sin is that the game costs $40 and each DLC retails for like $10 a pop, with an expansion at $30. If the game and the expansion were bundled for $40, and the DLC were $2.99 a pop, I'd have bought them all already. Hell, I'd bought it for my friends too.

Such a shame. Despite the online only DRM and the ridiculous city size. The game is broken down to it's very core. Just the way the 'Sims' go about their business, travelling, no set jobs, no set homes makes it all a big mess.

I think that's probably why the city limits came in in the first place. If one sim has to travel the length of the city to get to work, that job doesn't get done, he ends up unemployed and your numbers are fucked. Huge disappointment this one.
