I think people are holding the grudge for far too long. Would you rather Maxis have not made an official Offline Mode at all? Just stick with the one that disables a lot of the communication features with other players? Just dumped the game, said "F*** it, we're out of this industry" and met up with Phil Fish?

@KBABZ The game is far from fixed. Cities are still too small. Also, took too long.

The game is not salvageable IMO. Damage is already done and irreversible. Poor launch plus bad design which they didn't consult gamers on. Neither MS or EA had foresight but at least Microsoft had the balls to backpedal *before* the thing launched and save their product, EA did not.

@KBABZ EA is to blame not Maxis. I sincerely doubt the developer was sitting there thinking about how they could kill one of their #1 ip's. No, that was all EA.

@starfox15 Both are culpable, I sincerely doubt any credible developer would just sit back and let someone else turn their game into a turd. And if they did they did it simply for profits sake, so don't try and make out the decision makers at Maxis to be saints.

I guess EA shot themselves in the head with the initial release, and it took them so long to fix it that people eventually lost all interest in the game.

Such a shame. I loved the previous versions of Sim City, but the tiny map sizes pretty much remove the game from this game (whether you can play it offline or not). There's only so much you can do with a tiny little space like that.

Offline mode won't fix a broken engine. Can't wait until modders make larger maps, and then we all see how much of a fail glassbox really is.

Yeah EA, you can't expect to f.. gamers, abuse franchises and destroy the industry on a daily basis, and be everything okay after that just because you made Sim City accesible again.

Maybe Blizzard will take a que from EA (how many times will you really want to hear that I wonder) and scrub Diablo 3 clean of this foul, wretched Onlineyness-Only garbage!

Off-line as a second choice is fine with me. I was excited about sharing and working on-line, but mostly play by myself. But on-line or off-line makes no difference if you can't make your city fit. With no real agriculture you have no space to grow or make your city grow. With no 'God' tools you have to accept the limited imagination of the designers, although uniquely different, no necessarily playable.

I just don't understand why they made their areas so small, especially when they knew their were going to be add-ons that we can fit into the cities we've built?

Hopefully after they fix the off-line game they can start to add connected larger playing areas, add an agriculture segment and make more money than they need.

And can anyone tell me when EA and world Origin will be put into full function? What is available online in US should be available worldwide! What the heck is wrong with EA Marketing. Sell the best only to US customers and the heck with the rest of the world?

Sheeeeeesh!

Hmm, the offline thing was I think the 3rd biggest problem with the game, ok you could argue it was the 2nd biggest problem. That depends wether you think the map size which kinda constricts the game even considering the concept of specialized cities. But the biggest problem by far is one I haven't heard them mention. The traffic pathing. And I don't just mean the cars. They simulate all the individual sims, but the sims behave insanely. They won't cross the f'ing street, so that's why you can get a sim apartment building complaining about how there are no parks when there's a park across the street. You need to have bus stops on both sides of the street for them to get there. This effects every aspect of how you have to design your city. It's also the reason why all your fire trucks go to the first fire, but none to the 2nd fire. Yes I don't have enough fire engines when I have 8, yet there's one fire. THE BASIC MECHANICS ARE BROKEN. I don't know, did they fix this and I just didn't hear about it? I haven't played the game since a couple months after release. I didn't really care that it was always online, but nonworking game mechanics just makes the game unplayable.

Too late! come on!... No one is interested in this game.... I can imagine that only 3-5 out of 100 owners of this game will be back to try this feature that should be since the launch.

And for those like me that didn't buy it. It doesn't even matter, I still won't get it. Maybe... and just maybe... when the game costs 2 Euros... LOL

Nice going EA, you just killed one of the nicest IP out there for PC's... feel sorry for Sim City

I miss toast. And naval recruitment.

And for the record, while I'm glad that the offline mode was implemented (albeit horribly late and after a bounty of lies), this still doesn't address the other major issue with the game, being the very small city sizes.

@jesot@adrianjarcaClearly you do not understand the problem and the alternatives. If on console, rent it. You still get to play and EA doesn't get a dime. If on PC, well...

Wow. I think that was the most sensible, level-headed episode of Feedbackula I've seen yet. Also, the comment about Java was almost my exact reaction. Seriously. Who was the idiot who suggested coding a AAA release in Java? And why the hell did they agree with them?

I recently decided to get back into this game with Cities of Tomorrow, which looks pretty cool. But I honestly don't really care about offline mode, what I want is a game with the same level of depth and difficult as SimCity 4 - and unfortunately Maxis/EA failed to deliver.

It's not that cloud gaming isn't good or wanted in general, it's that it's not wanted with this type of game.

SimCity is just a really personal experience. Co-op or online modes might be cool additions, but in a game where you create your own world, you probably don't want outside forces influencing your creation or experience unless explicitly invited to do so.

@jesot Cloud gaming is about as good and desired as cancer. Imagine not owning what you pay for, the devs being able to charge whatever they like to give you continued access to a product you purchased, companies dropping games that are no longer thereby making you unable to play you payed money for.

If is neither good nor in your interest to give people like EA this much power.

I don't blame people for being so pissed off, infact I'm with them. The boss of a business wouldn't tolerate an employee finishing a piece of work one year late, why should it be accepted when EA patches in what should have been there in the first place one year late?
