MAN i want this game!!

I hope in the new-one (Demon's Souls 2) that we can upgrade also the uniform and to take also souls from storekeepers, by selling our stuff. I also hope to communicate with other players with mic.

Agreed, agreed. Demons souls is the Game, it as sound, graphic, a beautiful environment, and the most important great playability. When you are playing it, you fell like being in another world. for the record I like FPS more than RPG. But i have finished it for 5 times, and yet i´m felling more compelled to play it again then start play MW2 on my PC.

@TragicIntent I dunno what you were playing but ac2 felt like an expansion or DLC to me. The game was essencially the same with a different enviornment, different weapons and clothes. It had some cool additions but it really wasn't very different to me... that being said, killzone wasn't really that much improved either. (exept for the graphics which went from lackluster to amazing)

this game seems too awesome to miss out on i might get it some time soon.

Hmm. . .I feel like they gave Demon Souls this award mainly so they can feel like they're "hardcore" and haven't sold out. Like Ediblefood, I find the scoring disparity strange as well. While we're on the issue of selling out, what's with Killzone2? I mean it's a fine game, but most improved sequel over Assasin's Creed 2? Even if you think it's a better game, the category is most improved, not best sequel.

Umm didnt uncharted 2 get a better rating than all of these games?

Hmmm....after watching the video...I think ill have to buy this game!! And another thing to note is that its from FROM SOFTWARE !! They have made good games such as Otogi 1 & 2 one of my best games ever, Metal Wolf Chaos, and Ninja Blade. Congrats to FROM SOFTWARE !!!!

Congrats to Demons Soul. I havent played this game coz im not into RPG games. Just a quick question. Do I need be online to play this game?

this is really not my preferred genre of game, but since it got goty i picked it up and i'm really enjoying it. They're right about taking your time. You def can't just play for a few minutes, unless you just want to harvest souls.

Demon's Souls FTW! If you are at least a little curious about this game after watching the video, go buy it. It's hands down the most intense, rewarding experience I've had in years.

omg Gamespot doesnt know how to rate games, Uncharted 2 was waay better. Oh well at least on every other site uncharted 2 won so maybe it is nice to see another game get it.

The reason why a lower scored game could win GOTY is simple. This is the Editors (plural) Choice Awards. Most professional game review hate giving scores to games b/c you can't really quantify the totality of a gaming experience into a numerical equivalent. So between 9 to 9.5 the difference is meaningless. Furthermore, dependent on the reviewer some games might score higher or lower b/c of that reviewer's personal preference. Example If I was a reviewer and had to review a RTS, don't expect high scores. Now when you have a bunch of editors and game reviewers voting on the best game and arguing about the merits of each game Demon's Souls looks like it won the popular vote in their meeting. Thus winning GOTY. Simple really.

I haven't played this game yet, but it looks really good. I have to agree with monkiees however. How is it that Uncharted 2 got a higher rating, but Demon's Souls gets game of the Year? ...also, LOL @ 3:48

Demon's Souls is amazing. Not surprise it is Game of the Year from Gamespot. However, Uncharted 2 must have tallied up close with Demon's Souls because it, too, is a very great game! DS has re-playability and a unique multiplayer mode.

thething that confuses me about all of this is well we all know uncharted 2 is game of the year for almost every website except this one, but what i am wondering is how was demon souls game of the year when ga,espot themselve rated it a 9.0, but they rated uncharted 2 9.5???

The reason of so many discussion is that Demons Souls has not invested in communication and advertising and many people just not knowing, not buying and not playing that game. Most players never heard about this game. Then come here thinking that the game of the year is one of those great games that they have heard both praise and comments throughout the year. To contrast that the winner is the unknown DS. Unknown yes, but the fact that DS be unknown does not mean that DS does not deserve to be champion. As I said, I have this game and I can say: is the best game I ever played in the category.

This game was 85% of the reason I bought the PS3. It is a MUST have for RPG lovers. Words cannot describe how incredible it really is. Hands down the best game I have played in a very long time. I read it is basically a decendant of the Kings Field series from back in the day and those were great! I especially loved the creepy music throughout that gives the game it's atmosphere. Congrats Demon Souls!

Giving a completely underrated game GoTY so, you bring attention towards the game. Gamespot wins for doing things different, and we win because we have another good game that we should purchase. Everyone has Uncharted 2 and MW2 anyways. It's that simple people!

Twenty days ago I was looking for a PS3 game in the style of the old Diablo 2 to give me as Christmas gift. Was when I met here, in gamespot, the Dragons Origins and Demons Soul. At first i became interested more by Dragon Origins but deepened my quest to not commit errors. After researching on many blogs, i discovered that the Demons Soul has a great multiplay system, is more dynamic and with more action and less chatter ... lol ... and that's what I like. I bought the DS, imported from Corea to Brazil. Confess that there are few who know this game. When I commented to friends what the great game DS is they aways asked to me; WTF is Demons Soul?!? And I answered, yes DS, never played a medieval game better than this. So, congratulations to GAMESPOT the commitment with truth and honesty. And here I leave a small tip for those who do not know the game, PLAY and then comment.

The natraul aero dynamics of the controllers is never advertised. But you will find it for yourself playing this game.

DEMONS SOULS!!! Seriously, I've been addicted to the multiplayer for the last week working through 4-2. I killed the boss three times so far as someone else's helper... Now I just need some poor saps to help me, AND I need to make it up there in body form without being killed by those Will-o-wisps trans versing the room just before the boss. OMG, that game is so awesome. It's like someone took a 3-d Zelda game, and added substance to the combat! They're making 3d Game Dot Heroes too... Curious about that too.

awsome game. got it on christmas...died about 4 times in the first 6min that i played it, i also thought that i wasn't supposed to die when i fought that guardian guy, i stepped inside and was like WTF!!! still it is a great game

Demon's Souls is an epic game and a fresh new approach to RPGs, extremely well executed, challenging and graphically astounding. Thank you Gamespot for having the courage and honesty to judge games by their overall quality and not by the amount of hype or popular demand. Great job!

i was hoping assassins creed 2 would get it but oh well. ive never played it but it won so many awards so im going to definitly check it out

Ahh Gamespot you endear yourself to me above all other game sites.....thank you thank you thank you. Yes, Demon's Souls is one of the best ever made. No question. It takes wild risks and meets with astounding successes. Each level is lovingly crafted from corner to corner. The sound and visuals and other gaming choices are crazy immersive. A game like Demon's Souls only has more to grown on - the system works and can only get better from here. Add more powers, traps, dynamic world events, weapons...

i agree with PsychoMantizX i played u2 once and that it but demons soul i have a least 3 character and lvling them up is a really cool game where u can go and kill other ppl or help them on killing bosses im hoping to see an expansion of this game bringing more action and more lvl i beat this game a least 4 times and i still play it i think ppl who just talking without trying the game should just get it and try a real gamer game congrats to atlas for making such a great game.

This is great news to hear because Demon's Souls is such an amazing game in all aspects. It is an experience like no other. Easily one of the best games I have ever played. If this game looks interesting to you, get it...you won't be dissapointed!!

Well...I'm upset a little bit. I thought Uncharted 2 deserved it, but I haven't played Demon's Souls, maybe I will give it a shot if it is that good.

I had never heard of this game, until now. I would have said Uncharted 2 deserved Game of the Year but with out playing Demon's Souls I can't judge.From the video's it looks like an awesome game with a great new style of online interactivity. I will be picking up a copy of this game for sure.

I agree, the game definatly wasnt perfect but it unsurfaced new areas of co-op gameplay that I would love to see perfected.
