Of course PC's are killing consoles. Everyone has a computer, just like how mobile gaming is bigger because everyone has a phone. The more of a product is sold the bigger the market.

I hate FTP, but it doesn't effect me that they exist. If people want to waste their money let them get on with it. As long as there is a good amount of great AAA and Indie games in general for me to play I won't have an issue.

Also PC decimating console is just words, HOW are they decimating them? If you are simply talking about cheap games and open development then yeah console have a long way to go but in terms of players in general in the western countries console are king. It might even be king in Asia soon if China likes the Xbox One and PS4.

I've always been a console fan, it does everything I want and does it efficiently and with little mess. I have played plenty of PC games and while I agree that the graphics are better and the games are cheaper I still prefer a console overall.

F2P sucks when its based around the Grind2Win, Play2Win, Pay4'DLC' or PayWall models. I'd rather the old school demo be brought back and just buy the full game for all the content unlocked, and then maybe a good expansion later on if the game was worth it. But since so many F2P crack addicts are out there, they toss their money out like trash at these games without thinking how badly its hurt game development as a whole and promoted this, what is really, a casino slot machine model. For every League of Legends or Dota2 or Team Fortress 2, there's 10000 Candy Crush Saga's.

I´m sorry, but this piece we´re commenting on, is about a self proclaimed Expert, saying that pc´s are decimating consoles wich simply isn´t true, salesnumbers contradicts what he is claiming.

This isn´t about specs, we all know that pc´s are wiping the floor with consoles when it comes to specs, we don´t really need an expert to state the obvious.

For more than 20 years clowns like this guy has predicted the death of consoles, it hasn´t happened yet and looking at the salesnumbers, it won´t happen anytime soon.

@Hellcanwait PC games revenue has overtaken console game revenue a while ago. Nvidia predicted it a few years ago and around the start of this year, it happened. Search around the internet. You'll find loads of articles on it.

@-Unreal- @Hellcanwait ...And where the money goes, the gaming companies go. I don't believe the death of consoles will come any time soon (and I bloody hope it doesn't as I bought a PS4 not long ago) but it'll be interesting to see the results of the inevitable shift of focus towards PC gaming. I expect Microsoft will announce some gamer-friendly additions to the next major update of the Windows operating system too, and Steam have made a move with their Steambox.

I call BS on the people claiming upgrading PC's is so simple and clear cut. Things aren't as easy as some people portray it. Granted, a newer PC can be upgraded relatively easily, but as the years go on you got to worry about compatibility and things do get costly. I primarily game on PC, but I just don't understand the sense of elitism I see among some PC gamers. I am not saying all are like this by any means, just seems the most vocal ones are. Some guys like tinkering with stuff, like me, but some just want to plug some stuff in, turn it on and press the A button. Is that really so bad?

@jpeezy77 What can't we do on a PC? I think that's part of the elitism lol. I mean hell, without PC's there wouldn't even be console games.
What compatibility issues are you speaking of?

@59Hertz @jpeezy77 ?

This is probably a bit of a chicken and egg challenge, but... I'm guessing you are too young to have gamed through the Atari 2600 - NES era? Until about the time the Playstation rolled around, PC's were horrible game machines. Around that time someone starting thinking, hey, what would happen if we dropped the graphics abilities of a console into a PC? Things went well and real PC gaming was born.

@dennarda I did game on the NES and all the originals but I was born in 88. I still started from the beginning though. I played DOS games quite a bit before Playstation got released.

And you are right about console gaming being generally first in actual gaming with Atari etc (though not the first game surely). When I say "without PC's there wouldn't be console games" I basically meant to ask if you think consoles would even exist had it not been for the PC existing first and if so where do you suppose they would be now.

I probably should have elaborated on that haha

@dennarda I barely was old enough to game on atari 2600, I even remember coleco vision. But, I never really touched PC gaming until about the 286\386 days, Commander Keen Kings quest and stuff like that. I just remember the graphics werent much different than the NES/SNES at that point.

@59Hertz @jpeezy77 Well, I am just saying, it is not as easy as popping in latest i7 and calling it a day. If I had a PC, say built in 2006-2007, I am pretty much restricted to a core 2 duo/quad, pciE 1.0, ddr2 etc. Now, someone like me, and probably yourself, know that we need to do to upgrade the motherboard, PSU and whatever else, but most guys don't want to deal with that. And to be honest, in that situation it tends to be costly. I mean, I built my latest PC in 2012, but I already got the PC builder fever for my newest machine :P

@jpeezy77 Well yeah you're right, I mean if you got a outdated mobo you are definitely restricted. But all in all if you go out and buy a LGA 2011 or one of the latest it's still fairly cheap to put a decent GPU and stuff to match it. From there you can slowly do one item here and there to get where you really wanna be.
In my experience it takes a really long time for a rig to get so out of date that it just doesn't play much of anything. Right now even an old GTX 260 is still doing most games at medium/high.
But I get what you are saying. Consoles are quite convenient, It's just they are also incredibly restrictive.

@59Hertz @jpeezy77 I will agree with you on 100% on that, but if we are talking a 8-10 year window upgrading gets into that gray area. By that time you have upgraded so many components, you have pretty much bought a whole new PC anyways.

I just particularly feel this way because I had a personal experience where a co-worker convinced another to build a pretty serious gaming rig. He convinced him because he said it was so easy. The 1st coworker ended up moving, and I ended up doing "trouble calls" to the one with the gaming rig because things sometimes weren't working right, just because "I knew computers". As anyone who knows that if you let family and friends know you are knowledgeable on PC's, this gets quite annoying. Some people just don't need to be touching PC's, and they are better off with consoles. I just don't like seeing people get in over their head, which can happen if they think it is so easy. Sorry for the rant.

@jpeezy77 Hahaha I'm all too familiar with that. I just dropped off a PC the other day to a friend who completely wiped out windows (no idea how he did that and apparently he doesn't either). I also recently built a PC after not having one at all for two years. But I feel that with what I used it will still be decent at the 10 year mark especially with the room I left for upgrades.
I believe you do have to have a little knowledge to be able to maintain it without letting it get cluttered etc, and that is where I see most my friends having the issues. They just don't know how to maintain it.

@CharlesBurns I've been trying to think of an entire genre of games, that doesn't exist on the PC, that is only for consoles, what is it? the big brother thingy?

Now I do know, that real MMO RPGs, RTS and MOBAS don't even exist on the consoles, cause they dont work, some have tried and failed miserably, check the Halo RTS that no one even remembers.

Blizzard seems to have made a decent port of Diablo 3 to consoles, but its obivously weaker in terms of gameplay, physics precision and graphics for all the obvious reasons.

@Damazig @CharlesBurns Diablo 3 is awesome on console. So easy to play on DS4 from what i hve heard from people playing. i didnt play it and well i dont think you did either to judge it hands on. MOBA's seem to be going pro money gaming only, no thanks. MMO seems to be dying, well WOW killed it all, Age Of Conan was decent, i liked it.

RTS, yes i like them on PC but eventually they will start coming to consoles. How to do it, well keys/mouse can be used on console if devs wanted to

@WolfgarTheQuiet @Damazig @CharlesBurns Consoles have had the ability to use keyboard and mouse for years and years. So that's a rather poor argument as to why you think RTS and MOBA will be more plentiful there in the coming years.

Everyone keeps saying you can spend less on a PC and out perform a console...but for how long?

A PS4 will play every single PS4 game released at 100% quality, today and ten years from now. Build me a PC that will play every PC game at 100% quality today and ten years from now...

Now which is cheaper?

I'd love to build a PC that will play Star Citizen at maximum quality, but for the same price (In my country) I could buy 4 PS4's

It's a stupid argument.

It's so obvious that PC sales are higher than consoles I'm not even going to bother to explain why...

@CharlesBurns I would say the argument of "Everyone keeps saying you can spend less on a PC and out perform a console" was only valid a year ago.

Today it would be very difficult to get a PC more powerful for cheaper. At most it would be at an equal value now.

Also Star Citizen definitely looks like it would need a $2000 rig to play at maximum. But that's the glorious part of PC gaming. You don't need an expensive PC to play Star Citizen, a $500(bargain) one will do just fine. Being able to enhance the graphics and performance over time is just a bonus not a necessity.

@CharlesBurns Unfortunately, I think most PC fans will argue the PS4 is technically not playing ANY game at 100% quality. Or even 50% quality for that matter.

In the old days, I would argue they require much less hassle, but now that patching is common across all platforms, nearly every game is released in an unfinished state these days.

@Barighm @CharlesBurns Exacly Barighm, and also take note the almost everyone knows that the architecture of the new consoles is very similar to the PCs, they are basicaly just a low end PC restricted to a gamepad/controller that can't really be upgraded. On top of the patching, the new consoles and games also crash and bug out alot more, something the previous gen rarely did.

If I had to guess, I'd say the new consoles will be much easier and much faster to emulate on the PC, than the previous gen, and there are a few decent working emulators of the old gen, its just that the architecture is so different, that the time it takes to make a good emulator and a game version to run on it, that its just not worth it.

@CharlesBurns ...By the time the end of the console generation comes the PS4 and X1 be so far behind PC it's not even funny. By then our phones will probably be more powerful than the consoles.. So yes this argument is stupid.
And sure, your console will still play your games at the 100% peaked quality that it was upon its release. Just as my PC can still play good old DOS games at 100% quality.

@59Hertz Ten years from now PS4 games will be much better than the PS4 games being released today, and I'm sure PC exclusives will be even better.

What I'm saying is, there is no way that your top of the line PC today is going to be able to play the most graphic intensive PC game released ten years from now without you having to upgrade it.

I don't disagree, PC's will always be more powerful, but they'll also always be more expensive. So the argument about which is "better" depends on what you want.

Fanboyism comes from people who can't deal with the fact that there are people who don't like the same things they like, and it stems from a lack of self esteem.

@CharlesBurns @59Hertz In some ways the consoles end up costing more with the 70$ game discs and 8-15$ subscriptions. I mean of course its the same with AAA games on PC

But dang dat STEAM, i got like 12 games in the past 3 months for only 60$ it was like 300$ value not on sale.

Really wish they had sum deals like that on Xbox, don't know about Playstation = / .

@CharlesBurns I'll shorten up what I said by saying this instead.

It's to be expected that ten years from now my PC will need to be upgraded, but my PC even in its current state will still play and outshine the best that ps4 or X1 can offer at the end of the console life cycle.

And what do you think the console generation after this one will look up to when it comes to the tech that would be used for X2 or PS5? It will look at where the PC is.

So sure you can sit there and never buy a PC and be happy with the console. But 10 years from now it won't matter. Console games will have hit the peak of what the consoles can do and the PC will still be pushing forward.

The only reason you are saving money is because well as you said, you aren't upgrading anything.

Game preference is all subjective. Each platform has it's share of good games.
So if what you want is to keep up with technology then you will upgrade your PC in some way or another. If not then you can continue to be happy with the consoles for the next 10 years until the new cycle comes.

But the new cycle will just look at where PC is, trailing once again in it's shadow as always. (Unless tech itself has a massive shift somewhere in between)

@CharlesBurns @59Hertz you're insisting on a faulty reason, you're trying to say that a PC now that runs games at max graphics, won't be able to do it in 10 years, obviously, however what you must think is that ALREADY do cheap 600 euro PCs outperform the same game as the counterpart on the consoles.

PCs now wont be able to run a game at max in ten years? true, consoles can't do it ALREADY, right now they have to lower res, frames and physics to cope with thae fact that hey cant handle it.

You have no options to upgrade or downgrade on the console, what this means is in 10 years (if they do last that long), the consoles will run optimised versions of one game with the same gimmicks that exist right now such as lower textures, LODs, downsampling, new Anti Aliasing etc, to be able to run at peak performance that the console can ouput.

The same will happen for the current PCs, if you dont want to upgrade anything, you'll have to lower the graphics and all the stuff you have to , to optimise the game for your particular rig (Geforce Experience already does this for all the games installed on your PC at the touch of a button). There are of course bullshit minimum requierments that are made up just to try to get you to buy a new PC, but just about every game right now can be played with PCs below the minimum requierments, when the bullshit is obvious.

@Tranula @Damazig my video card alone is +400 euros, however, a 600 euros PC including a geforce 750 ti, will already outperform a current(next) gen console. as Xbox ONE is still being sold for 500 euros here in portugal in several places, thats why I said for an extra 100 euros only, you can get a much better PC. I am not however, with this saying that consoles are a bad thing.
