It's a bit of a chuckle with some funny dialogue at times but the gameplay really is rather boring unless you really really like taking photos of scenery in a game.

The stealth sections are laughable and the platforming is clumsy at best. The characters are still memorable though and Jade is likeable enough.

The water rendering even on original Xbox is still pretty impressive even today though.

Probably better off spending the money on Forsaken , that holds up much better than this and is more exciting.

It seems to have copied the photo mechanic story tie-in from Anachronox. Well I found the photo mechanic a little fun since not many games have done it before.

It was OK then and it's OK now. Not bad yet unremarkable as ever.

I actually never played it back in the day. i got it free on uplay about a year ago, and was like sure ill check it out. The game blew me away, obviously still shows its age but its SOOO good and pretty ahead of its time. Very excited for the next entry.

I'm 32 now, and I remember playing this after beating Prince of Persia: Sands of Time (which at the time was completely amazing as far as platforming/parkour alone, not to mention the little things like when you died, the Prince would say, "No, no, that's not how it happened" because he was telling the story). PoP story was so good that I couldn't "grab" what was so good about Beyond Good and Evil. From what I remember, it felt like a Crash Bandicoot mixed with Disney and space aliens.

I think the answer to that question lies with each individual obviously, but to me, definitely not. I mean, it does in the sense that it's still easily accessible to play. People most likely won't have much issue with controls (until the final boss mind you), but that aside, I don't find it to be a very great game. I bought and played the original Xbox version up to a certain point back when it came out, but it wasn't until the Xbox 360 remaster version came out that I finished it, and it was just kind of 'meh' for a lack of better descriptive word. I also bought it on Steam in 2009, but the game was super buggy so I couldn't ever play it on there.

It's only buggy when you have certain graphical settings enabled.

I have this game on almost every platform even the OG Xbox and only booted the game to see if I liked it and I did. However, I buy my games in bulk and go through them briefly. I am hoping the the new one is good as well.

The new one is a prequel and it looks radically different, honestly I don't think it's going to be near as good as the first game.

Personally, I still love the game, but I know it's one that if released today, it would NOT survive in this political climate (even though, oddly enough, after 2016, the plot became MORE relevant). It's the earliest example of a so called "Social Justice" game, but back in 2003, nobody cared. From 2014 (the start of GamerGate) and onward? Oh boy....

It further adds my worry of the reputation of the second game, besides the long development.

@Stinky51013: Yeah, I used to say Gertsmann until I actually read his name, then I was like 'wow, how did I miss that?' I do wonder how many people make the mistake. If I remember correctly, I've seen people misspell it and say it incorrectly as well.

At first in like 10 minutes in: your like "ah I remember this game it's was good but it feels strangely wierd and awkward is this what I remember" but once you arrive in the city and your asked to open a locked door you cannot open, you then remember things like, omg it feels like donkey Kong racing, it feels like old school spyro/ psyhon filter stylish esque. The charm starts to come back, and the nostalgia you once remembered is reinvigorated. So yes, but not at first definitely not at first.

It's definitely a donkey Kong racing game on N64, with a story.

If you can enter the game with that mindset you'll definitely enjoy it.

I found the game disappointing back then, and even more so now. Its just so obvious Jak&Daxter clone. And the humour was appallingly bad. Farting pigs? Is the game for three year olds???

So, a game you can safely ignore. Not a must play.

@henrythefifth: An opinion you can safely ignore. The game is a must play. In fact it isn't even anything like Jak and Daxter. If anything it's Rayman in a Zelda skin.

@deactivated-5b6fdad101071: This game is shit and anyone who defends it is proof of it, you want us to respect your opinions in this game but you dont respect the opinion of people who didnt enjoy it or think the game looks super mediocre and average.

I only tried it a few years ago, I absolutely loved it, it felt so fresh and got me out of my gamers depression for a time, but the ending was pretty disappointing. It is a bit too short though.

@CRAPCOM1926: Wow, guess you can climb into people minds and read it. You are entitled to your opinions only and not speak for other people as if it is fact. Even if one is feeling nostalgic about an game it only means for me that some games no matter how much technology is available today some games today lack great gameplay while heavy on tech and that sucks for me.

@CRAPCOM1926: oh give me a break. You watched some gameplay on YouTube or something and that qualifies you to tell someone who has actually played it that they shouldn't like it any more?

@deactivated-5b6fdad101071: oh look at the butthurt this comments, the game looks and play like a mediocre 3d aventure game, no wonder it sold like crap. and Devil may cry was a 2001 action game, this game is from 2003, jax 2 is older than this and far more enjoyable.
