@Boost120 The mice that were mentioned at the end are specifically a real example of that. I remember reading about that before, if I'm remembering right they successfully cloned 25 generations of the first clone that were healthy and had normal lifespans, after that they started to run into problems I guess.

That's the gist of it anyways. Those mice are the only example of this as far as I know, though.

@Boost120 @kitmeep Let him have his voice. It is quite valid to voice a dissenting opinion of something that you used to like but that you think has degraded in quality. Simply not watching it will make his complaints go away, but won't deal with what he believes is a problem.

I disagree with him, but I'll defend his right to dissent :)

You really need to google what cloning is if that question was serious. Also you did not get the point of this show.

@BrunoBRS but solid wasn't a prefect solider either he was just better than liquid , whole theme of mgs 1 is to prove gene has nothing to do with one's ability .solid beat liquid only because he is more talented and exp'ed than liquid and it has nothing to do with genes or anything. as far as solidus, meh i can buy that as part of the fiction.

@BrunoBRS As far as I'm aware, this type of cloning isn't currently possible. The only REAL barrier at the moment is the ability to separate paired genes. While I'm not sure that it's possible yet, I don't know that it's going to be THAT impossible to do. The body already naturally makes these separations when it creates the reproductive cells. It can't pass on both genes, only one and so the genes must be separated/created in such a way that only one is passed on.

The trouble is more in reproducing this biological event. Science has always had trouble with this kind of thing. I'm sure it's not going to be easy. But I'm almost certain it will happen.

As to the negative traits that come from having only dominant or recessive traits:

A) Liquid actually mentions this if I remember. He's had a slightly more troubling life because he's had to contend with some defects as a result of getting the recessive genes. I may not be remembering this correctly but I feel like the topic was touched on.

B) There isn't an inherent problem with it. Dominant and Recessive is a very binary system when really it's more like a spectrum. The scale could have thousands of points of expression on it. So the idea that having only one or the other would inherently be dangerous isn't entirely true. The danger is more that we would be forcing the expression of certain genes when we don't necessarily know the properties of the genes.

The bigger problem with this is really more the feasibility of such of a feat (I think) than the outcome of such an effort. Of course, some of those recessive genes may have given Solid Snake a better soldiering genome. That's a different topic though.

@PETERAKO I have that problem too. Usually it's during peak hours. This doesn't generally happen with other video players - they just hiccup and then start playing again but the CBSi player seems to just lose the feed all together for some reason. Lowering the quality usually solves the problem.

@PS4andXoneGamer I just love how they blend realistic historical and real world elements (like actual military practices and tactics, and historical agencies and treaties and the like) with totally absurd science-fiction stuff, it's such a great blend! It sure makes a convoluted story, but the parts you can actually wrap your head around are a lot more interesting because of it's ties to actual, real, history and fact.
