@contentxcontext As a former computer science student, I can tell you that this may be a problematic way to describe game "size". Crudely implemented game engines can keep unnecessary textures and models and other things in memory when they are not needed, thus bloating the measurement.

Also, consider texture mods for games like Skyrim. You need to have a lot of video memory once you start loading up on 4K textures. Lovely as they are, they hog memory (~8.8 million pixels per texture is heafty).

In terms of size most MMOs I've played, including WoW, were the biggest (I suppose in population and sales as well). The TES games were the biggest games in terms of personal importance and preference.

Best reality check yet, and makes you think. Skyrim would be my pick overall as far as game size and as a series the games have always been huge. Next do smallest/shortest game! My pick would be MGS:Ground Zeroes.

@Stebsis I'm sure he did. He said his pick was Skyrim as far as what he played. Maybe he didn't play WoW or Minecraft, which are obviously bigger.

Biggest game world could hard to determine. What if you had a world like skyrim's but shrunk the character. Does that make the game world "bigger"? Point being size, at least in video games, is relative .

Kerbal Space Program, it has always felt huge to me but probably not due to it's actual size of the game world, i think it does a great job of portraying the size and emptiness of space and insignificance of man, as well as how difficult it can be to reach the edge of the planetary portion of the solar system.

Pointing out an error in the video: The biggest selling title isn't TETRIS, it's in fact "MINESWEEPER". Nothing else comes close in total sales.

In terms of "my real world" as per question at end of video, 425.5 Days played on my main in "World Of Warcraft".

I might be in the minority here but I kinda want smaller but more detailed worlds. For example a game like Skyrim is large but most of it is plain fields, look a like caves, fortresses, etc. Meanwhile games like GTA, Assassin's Creed, Batman Arkham series have much more detail in their worlds.

In Batman I can stop and solve The Riddler mysteries, in AC I can see another historical building and climb around it until I find another glyph, and in GTA I can do all kinds of crazy stuff. Meanwhile in WoW I just kill mobs in one zone and then kill mobs in another - its a grind.

Damn, Elite Dangerous sounds insane. I kinda doubt if this game will have that much of systems you can actually visit. But damn... Sounds like a huge game. I should check this game out, b/c the only thing I know about the game is the name.

Nice research Cam. But which game is the highest selling full priced game ($50-60) of all time, that isn't bundled? Minecraft is not a full priced game, and LOL is free to play. Cannot count entire franchises. One title only.

@lostn I think that'd fluctuate with inflation, and would be difficult to track. Games weren't always $50-60, the prices changed with the market. Also, game prices drop, so they won't be at full price for long.

If I had to guess though, I'd say GTAV. Made a billion right out of the gate, and is still selling at full price, 6 months after release

@Maverick6585 Games used to be $80+ back in the NES days.

Price drops and sales are fine. I'm not interested in the price per se, but the class of the game. A CoD is going to be a AAA title, regardless of whether you buy it for $60 or $20 in the bargain bin. While a game that launched at $20-30 on disc is never going to be considered a full priced game, but a budget title created on a small budget, even if you can buy a CoD one day for cheaper than it.

I'm interested in knowing what is the best selling game that launched at full price (whether that be $50, $60, or $80). Minecraft does not count because it's not a $60 game. They don't need to be purchased at full price, as long as the game's MSRP is at the maximum price allowed on its platform at the time it was released.

GTAV released on only two platforms, so I'm not sure this is the one. GTAV has sold approximately 31 million copies on both consoles combined. CoDs release on a lot more platforms than GTA. Mario Kart sold 34 million on the Wii alone, and I'm not even sure if that's the highest selling game by my goalposts, but it already beats GTAV.

I doubt you'd actually be able to visit 400 billion different stars in that galaxy sized game. As if.

@lostn you can all the planets are procedurally generated, even on the commodore amiga with a filesize of less than 1mb it had countless star systems and you could even land on all the planets and fly around them and im still confused as to this day no space game has been released that can do that.

My biggest would be Morrowind, since it was a long wait for Oblivion. It seems larger than either that or Skyrim since you have to walk so much, little fast travel is available.

You could say whether a game world size is hand created verses randomly or procedurally generated since that is why a game like skyrim is so much smaller but has so much more to do
