Bravely Default is the best game to come out this year, by a large margin. Granted, we're only in July, but it's still #1 in my eyes. #2 would be Mario Kart, or Ground Zeroes. Bash the "paying for a demo" all you want, but it's loaded with stuff to do and the gameplay is near flawless.

@stage4saiyan Does Bravely Default count? Because it came out internationally last year. Only US and S. Korea were held back. I'd shortlist it again, though.

i can tell you right now its not going to be Shovel Knight. the only people who might actually make it GOTY is ign and we all know ign has bad taste in games

@thecman25 Considering Shovel Knight is one of the best New IPs to not be a Call of Duty wanna-be, I'd say it has a good chance.

Wolfenstein......I just really liked that game.....didn't add BS modes just for the sake of content, made a possibly meathead character likable....and certainly didn't present an idea then mess everything up.....

I also liked Infamous Second Son.....that game was just pure fun and even the bits that could have been really lame in generations past was really cool....mainly the stencil art.....story was a rollercoaster ride and made you wanna fight...plus the end boss fight was epic....

@MJ12-Conspiracy I found Second Son got boring fast, and being PS4 only I was really disappointed with how little they took advantage of the new hardware for the open world, things like density, random citizen AI, interaction. It was graphically nice, and not a terrible game, but it just didn't impress me in any other way.

Bravely Default is my favourite game for 2014 at the moment plus love the fact that it brings back the classic Final Fantasy styled games

And Valiant Hearts too which I like to give a mention as well

Oh, I didn't remember that Left Behind came out this year. Honestly, I'm kind of against a DLC being game of the year though, no matter how good it is. Good time for The Last of Us on PS4 to win :P.

@hotkoolaid I don't think it'll win. Left Behind might win if they have a "best DLC" category, but The Last of Us, or Left Behind alone winning Game of the Year, I doubt it.

@Orontes13 Unfortunately only on PC. It might have a chance to win PC GOTY but in other categories multiplatforms will dominate. But at least i'm glad that game is so successful, recently read from developers - game only came out but already turned into profit :D Paid its own developments costs in first 3 days.

Huh, surprised Dark Souls 2 wasn't mentioned, Kevin. IMO, 2014 wasn't a stellar year for great games. I haven't played any of those mentioned, except the LoU DLC, which was pretty good for a DLC, other than that, pretty slow year.
