I don't think so. I don't think the fanbase for MGS is as large as people think it is.

It is just that the cult following that MGS has is also really noisy. It makes it look as though the game has a massive fanbase when really it is kind of average.

I'd say a lot of people won't buy it because of the number five and not having played many of the previous games, not understanding that you don't need to play them all.

Also those like me who agree the gameplay is fine but the story is totally jacked and turns me off of the series entirely. Especially in previous games with their rambling cut scenes and boring codex conversations. The story in V is supposed to be less in your face but just as convoluted as ever.

I personally want Witcher 3 to get it but I think Fallout 4 will be the one who claims it. The Bethesda open world games just have so many more fans all round. It is many games in one, appealing to many different types of gamer.

funny how people in the comments say witcher 3 is the goty having not even played mgs v, bloodborne, persona 5, tomb raider, halo 5 or fallout 4 lol. hell, even mario maker might make the short list of contenders :D

Witcher 3 was a great game but had alot of problems, controls, frame rate, and easy combat. In my opinion that takes it out of the running. Now its down MGS5 and Fallout.

Of course it's too early to call. Likely suspects include Witcher 3, MGSV and Fallout 4. We'll know more going into December and then it will be close.

Lol i have been watching the game on twitch and im not very impressed. Maybe for people who are huge MGS fans it should have got that high of scores. For example i would probably give Halo 5 a 10/10 because im a huge fan. But that would be biased. So many games have done a better job than MGS 5.

It has replaced Bloodborne for GOTY right now but expect that to change on November 10. Fallout 4 will win it, no question.

Maybe I'm not into MGSV, I don't like Stealth game, but I understand that it deserves to be a GOTY, it's a great game but also The Witcher 3 deserves the title, even if Fallout 4 turns out to be an amazing game which I'm pretty sure it will be, Witcher 3 will always be my GOTY

MGS5 is my prediction for GOTY its a gamers dream come true.

@7tizz: I will be MASSIVELY, MASSIVELY (is there anything bigger than caps?) surprised, if Halo, Forza, Battlefront (mark my words, EA doesn't publish GOTYs, it publishes games that have the right cost/expected profit margin), or especially CoD will be on many GOTY shortlists.

Tomb Raider is probably the only real contender out of that list (it has a HELL of a competition, and I personally do not believe Crystal Dynamics can make a better game than CDPR or Kojima Productions), with Halo having some credibility (the post-Bungie Halo though is a different animal, not as beloved by critics as before), and Forza might be GOTY as far as driving games go (which is not what we're talking about here), but that's about it.
