Zillion II differs greatly from the original Zillion game, using similar music and environments but different gameplay.

While the original Zillion involved a lot of writing down, or if you have amazing long-term memory, memorizing sequences of symbols that work as commands and serve other purposes, this Zillion is more of an action game.

Starting off as the same character from the original (or at least animated similarly) riding on a futuristic motorcycle capable of transforming throughout the level into other transportation mechanisms by picking up appropriate icons, including one that enables flight.

While riding or flying around, you attack both mechanical and living enemies that will fire upon you, avoiding gaps in the road to venture further.

After every level or two gameplay varies from being one-way side-scrolling automobile-based to walking and exploring the areas manually, in both cases fending off unusual looking mechanical and living organisms (the living ones resembling anorexic bald people, it seems a bit wrong shooting these enemies who look like cancer patients)

For those who found the original game to be a bit too confusing and prefer more fast-paced action, Zillion II: Triformation is a breath of fresh air.
