Assassin's Creed Movie Casts Oscar-Winning Actress Marion Cotillard

French actress Marion Cotillard has signed on to the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie.

According to Deadline, Ubisoft and production company The New Regency have yet to reveal her role in the movie.

Cotillard and her co-star Michael Fassbender acted together in an upcoming adaptation of Macbeth, which the director of the Assassin's Creed movie, Justin Kurzel, also directed.

Cotillard, who you might recognize from The Dark Knight Rises or Inception, also won an Oscar for her role as singer Édith Piaf in 2007's biopic La vie en Rose. Fassbender was also nominated for his role in 2013's 12 Years a Slave.

Last week, we learned that the Assassin's Creed movie officially entered production and should start shooting soon. The movie, produced by New Regency and 20th Century Fox, will hit theaters on December 21, 2016. That's one week after the first Star Wars spinoff movie hits cinemas.

Ubisoft is working on five other movies based on its games at the moment: Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon. In all instances, Ubisoft will retain creative control through its Ubisoft Motion Pictures group.

The executives get themselves into a lather about the most uniquely original idea in the history of newness, 5 months later they realise no-one wants to write such garbage and it's back to square one.

The musical Wicked was supposed to have been released in 2008 and every year it's "almost there". Emma Watson was rumoured to be cast in some movie over a year ago, she was then rumoured to be cast in the same movie less than a month ago.

I am not getting my hopes up, but there are some indications this might turn out well. One - the reason this took so long to get off the ground is because Ubi was adamant that they retain all creative control and veto power (which almost never happens when working with a Hollywood studio). Two - not only is Fassbender the star, but it is being produced by his production company as well. Three - the casting choices so far appear to be pretty good, not some B-grade high-school drama class actors.

I would like to see this turn out well. One decent video game adaptation out of a history of absolutely garbage isn't too much to ask I don't think.

Last time a game did that was MGS2, but the public cried all over how they were unable to understand squat.

Calling it now: Marion will be the love interest who will be killed off at the very end in the most anti-climactic manner possible. Seriously, have you people played any Ubisoft game in the past 15 years? If there's a woman in it, she gets killed off....horrifically.

<< LINK REMOVED >><< LINK REMOVED >> For the first 3 months the movie won't start, then when it's released on Blu-Ray the disc will keep jumping out of the tray and inexplicably falling through the floor. If you try to pause the film it will speed up and if you want to put on director's commentary the sound will turn off.
That last one will function as intended.

It maybe could have been a good movie, but they turned the story into a comedy. It's a brainless fun flick, but nothing more.
