Crystal Dynamics rebooting Soul Reaver - Report

i hope my nostalgia will be awesome, when this comes out.

No joke, this is probably the best gaming news for me I've heard in a year. I can't wait for some updated nostalgia, if that makes any sense..

OMFG YES!! i love this series, it was disheartening for it to fall off the radar for so many years after "Defiance" if anything, why not reboot it from Blood Omen 1 though? give it a fresh start? oh well, beggers cant be choosers, i just hope they do it justice, & dont end up butchering it

The legacy of Kain is my favorite game series of all time, I pray they do it justice.

I loved Soul Reaver on the Dreamcast. Still own a copy. Greatly looking forward to the reboot.

Wow, one of my favorite franchises coming back in action!? I doubt any reboot will capture the nostalgic magic of Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain, with the chilling music, haunting voice acting,(Simon Templeman) and ridiculously fun gameplay. However, I am in full support of this franchise coming back into the spotlight, these games were incredibly fun to play.

Folks, the article doesn't say this is going to be an X-Box Live exclusive. It says "unannounced IP is an XBLA" exclusive. Obviously the 'Legacy of Kain' IP is not unannounced.

Soul Reaver? Why not Blood Omen, Kain is a much cooler character, and the game Blod Omen LOK is way much beter game then any of the sequels!!!

Rebooting Soul Reaver! = Expectations through the roof! Its an Xbox Live Arcade title = Expectations hits the ground and keeps on going...

I'm excited, but also cautiously excited. As much as I love the 'Legacy of Kain' series a lot has changed since the last game was made. Key people have left, including series heads Amy Hennig and Richard Lemarchand (both at Naughty Dog now). Tony Jay (who voiced the Elder God) passed away some time ago. I'm looking forward to the reboot, but I fear it will be a disappointment. Hopefully they'll at least do a remaster of the PS2-era games to kick things off.

Wait a second, by XBLA they're simply referring to it being a downloadable game, right? Because if this does not hit PSN, I may have to break something.

Reboot huh. I've seen what they are doin to DMC. These reboots usually ruin a series more than save. Anyone remember Turok? Should of done a remake of blood omen or a sequel to defiance. Just not gonna get my hopes up on a reboot.

@Herokane, I think that the article meant that the "unannounced new IP" game would be the XBLA title, not the Soul Reaver reboot. Upon rereading the article, it didn't make mention on anything regarding the Soul Reaver game; only that it is in the works. Given that Eidos is now a part of SE, I doubt that they would be willing to antagonize the fanbase given the flak that SE has gotten in recent years regarding the decline in the quality of their products and the Japanese gaming industry in general.

I would rather a compilation HD release along side a new game continuing the saga. But this is not bad news.

Yeah, another developer bringing back a classic Playstation title on a none playstation system. What a bunch of rocket scientists. If your fan base was on a specific system you should at least make the game for that system also. Dont misunderstand, Im all for multiple platform games but not putting it on the system that a large number of the fans are on is a recipe for poor sales. Look at Monster Hunter Tri, the majority of Monster Hunter fans are Playstation users, but the game was a Wii exclusive??? When will they learn. I still have all 5 Legacy of Kain games and would have bought this in a heartbeat. Oh well. They're loss.

Ooooh. Very good. I'm surprised they haven't sooner. @GarGx1 Since Crystal Dynamics is now a subsidiary of Squeenix (via Eidos), I imagine it would be on most platforms, regardless of what CD may or may not want.

Gd they doing a reboot but telling the truth that it be sqaureenix style and in charge of the game with Crystal Dynamics but sqaureenix doing there way just like tomb radier reboot Since SqaureEnix in charge and got the rights to edios games at the end its sqaureenix game. And for xboxlive well had to say not right and should be on psn as well. But got res evil shoot em ups for psn but xboxlive should have that as well. So how later in the year how about a swap near future lol.

@GarGx1 look at what consoles Crystal Dynamics has published on ... all consoles. I'm not really sure what you are reading into but it feels slightly off base.

@Dichotomize Mostly due to the developer, maybe I'm just reading too much into it. Hopefully I'm wrong, infact I'd love to be wrong on this one.

@GarGx1 Why would it be PS3 exclusive? Every title was also on PC, SR1 was on Dreamcast, Blood Omen 2 was on every platform at the time, and Defiance was also on Xbox.

Not sure why this link would be in the PC site, it'll be a PS3 exclusive. Legacy of Kain was a fun game at the time.

Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver is a classic, one of my first PS1 games I love it so much so unless they're just gonna make the old one in 'HD' they shouldn't do this. If they're stubborn and do then it won't have the same feel to it because Tony Jay who voiced the Elder God has passed away sadly. Brilliant voice actor "I know you Raziel" =)

Hey guys, I just looked it up on the dictionary: Reboot (in the context of video games): The last, desperate (and always doomed) attempt to bring some profit from a dead franchise.

Unless they are going to somehow tie the reboot into the series narrative that has been left hanging for almost 10 years now I really don't know how I feel about this. I think It's fair to say the fans of the series want to see a continuation of the (fantastically complex) story. Not to retread the parts we already know.

That would be great if they would do like an "HD" Package instead of having it on XBLA, I know I would buy it, I like the whole series.

Legacy of Kain is one of the best sagas ever created from beginning to end. The only let down out of the entire series was Blood Omen II and that was because of the controls and the camera. I hope they don't completely re"vamp" the art style because the mix of the industrial and magical of Nosgoth really worked for me. I also hope they don't mess up the narrative because Raziel and Kane had some of the best lines ever.

Soul Reaver was an epic game, I remember playing it with my cousin all night :D.. Grat times

You know, despite the fact that people are being blind and not seeing the "NEW IP" is an XBLA title.... I would be happy if this reboot was an XBLA title. I like my graphical remakes that way. You think I ever... EVER would have bought RE:4 for 360 if it wasn't an XBLA title? Short answer? $*#) no.

Just remake the original game. I don't give a #%$@ about Raziel.
