Dark Souls II launching March 2014

Update: Namco Bandai confirms Dark Souls II will be shipping in March 2014.

Update: Namco Bandai has confirmed to Eurogamer that Dark Souls II will be shipping in March 2014.

Original story: Dark Souls II, the sequel to From Software’s 2011 hit role-playing game, Dark Souls may be releasing in March next year, according to a report on Kotaku.

A large billboard has been spotted in Los Angeles by user Norm the Alligator ahead of next week’s Electronic Entertainment Expo. The 2014 launch window has lead to speculation that the next title in the notoriously unforgiving series may also include a next-generation console release.

A Namco Bandai Australia spokesperson declined to comment on the release date, and reiterated that only Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC versions of the game have been announced.

Namco recently confirmed the company will be going "guns blazing" to market with Dark Souls II.

@immortaltech6 @skayj2 Oh I do.

Completed Dark Souls Twice. Fucking love that game to death. Easily one of the top 5 games I've ever played.

What I meant was that I get the feeling that this game will try to pander to the masses, maybe not to the extent fucking Skyrim did... But even that slight deviation, I believe, would water down the experience for me.

Haha I guess "survived" would be a more fitting term.

Though I did rack up about 170 hours of total playtime :P The level design is just so genius that I kept on getting dragged into exploring everything!

Also, I wouldn't know anything about the Demon's Souls smithing as I didn't own a ps3, but it does sound very interesting as I did feel a little underwhelmed at the ease of the smithing compared to the complexities of the rest of the game.

So hopefully they do re-integrate it into the game :)

I mean even if your inferral was correct, what could there possibly be for a dumbass to have a bad feeling about? :P

@skayj2 @immortaltech6 One does not simply kill Gwyn, Lord of Cinder and call it 'completing' Dark Souls.

I think even Dark Souls had a little bit of pandering to the masses involved when compared to Demon's Souls.

I mean where as Demon's Souls had a whole load of different ores that would do all kinds of things like increase stat scaling, add poison/bleed damage, or increase backstab damage, Dark Soul's weapon upgrade system is clearly for dummies who can't handle anything beyond "Ooooh fire, holy and shiny electric! Weeeeee!"

Really hoping they bring back some of the Demon's souls smithing for the sequel.

@skayj2 @immortaltech6 according game's director, there is no chance in difficulty compared to previous ones and no purposely desingned easy arenas for idiots. I think they just give quick travel from bondire to bondire right from start(wich is honestly good, even when sortcuts are avaible before lordvessel) and better tutorial (again good thing) I dont believe that it will have any bigger "pander to the masses" aside those two.

This should've been your original comment. "I dno" made you appear as a dumbass with nothing to back it up when you're actually articulate. I kind of agree and hope the game/ world mechanics are slightly better explained in-game, not made easier.

I wish it was sooner but i'm glad they're putting so much, effort and money into it. Dark Souls was one of the best games of this generation, and I can't wait till 2 hits the shelves. I'm going to turn off my phone, call in sick with something terrible, and play and play...

@WolfGrey @diablo184 the dogs man the dogs. but i agree poise made it really easy to just heal threw damage and thus made people learning moves a bit less common and pvp annoying at times, maybe if they implement it better it could be more balanced =/

I would say no to poise anyday.

In Demon's you had to time your attacks with larger weapons and being in heavy armor. You had to really learn the game.

In Dark it's like you get a free pass to just swing recklessly and chug estus when you get hurt. Actually learning is nowhere near as important, hence all the black phantoms abusing it.

If it is getting a PC release as the lead platform then that could mean PS4 / X1 ports though couldn't it?

@WolfGrey i didn't find either one all that bad. but to an earlier statement of yours poise made dark souls so much easier then demon souls including eye frames during recovery. but i think for what dark souls is they had to have poise

So let's hope gimmick bosses don't exist this time.

No Bed of Chaos + thank you.

Also i would like faster bosses too, something more akin to the flamelurker and Manus.

To an extent.

Seath, Nito, Bed of Chaos, Stray/Firesage, Ceaseless, and Gaping were all not so great.

Nito was a big letdown, jeezus he is easy as hell.

I hated that thing. It had to be literally made for no other reason than to annoy the crap out of you.

What's sad was when i first played the game. After seeing Quelaag and knowing about the Witches of Izalith , i was expecting a much bigger spider lady or some kind of epic boss of chaos fire.

Instead we got a tree with glowing balls that scream poke me as it tries to smack us with it's brooms into a dark bucket of doom.

Seriously so much wasted potential there.

How so when i only mentioned people coming from Demon's Souls?

I even said it had a fair difficulty to it.

I only stated myself when i said it was easy and made that clear.

Loved Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, the only true RPG coming from the east in recent times, in my opinion anyway.

And thank you for making the PC version the lead platform this time and not a shoddy console port. Also basing the game on PC might pave the way for a next gen port because of the similar architecture.

Also with the update you need to have below 25% equip load to have the effect now. Not 50%, so it doesn't matter anymore.

I also avoid all of that crap.

Lmao.

Nope. I was naturally good at Dark Souls and Demon's Souls thanks to my experience of gaming.

I have played Monster Hunter, Devil May Cry, and other games in those areas for years.

When you apply spatial awareness, adapting to animation delays, observation of audio and visual cues, and so on, the game becomes fairly easy.

Sure not for everyone but some of us yes.

This may sound like bragging but that was how it was for me.

But then again...put me in a puzzle game or racing game and i suck really bad.

Tetris makes me eat the dirt hard....hell i can maybe get past the first level...sometimes

Probably was hoping for too much to have this in my hands before the end of the year. But it would be nice if there was a PS4 version as what better game can there be right now to show off the flexibility of the social aspect to the new console than a Dark Souls one?

@WolfGrey @marioSNAKEeyes @mattress805 Once you complete the game and learn every single corner like I did, then it's easy, but don't come here and say Dark Souls is easy. And I was never a poise happy player. I hate being slow. Have you heard about the dark wood grain ring? i bet you watched some walkthroughs and came here to do the expert

And even then , people coming from Demon's had a fair idea of what to expect when we saw visual cues, hear audio cues , and in general could react better.

Which made the game a lot easier for us.

Before we even turned the game on the first time, we had an idea of what build what we wanted to do based on our old Demon's builds.

Hmm its tough to say. I think of Dark Souls as easy, and honestly less exciting than Demon's Souls.

Gimmicks, exploits, trolls , poise, and a number of other things really take a bite out of Dark Souls enjoyment.

That said i do love the game.

As long as you don't go poise/lightning happy, Dark Souls is fair in difficulty.
