Dead Space 3 Awakened DLC revealed

First expansion for action game coming to Xbox 360, PS3, and PC in March for $10; will be "disturbing."

Dead Space 3 launched today in North America, and publisher Electronic Arts is already readying the game's first expansion. EA today announced Dead Space 3 Awakened, a "disturbing" piece of downloadable content due out on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC in March for $10.

No Caption Provided

The Awakened expansion for Dead Space 3 introduces players to the franchise's "darkest chapters," EA said. Visceral Games general manager Steve Papoutsis said Awakened will represent some of the "most disturbing content [players] have ever seen in a Dead Space game."

GameSpot's Dead Space 3 review praised the game's weapon crafting system, sense of atmosphere, environmental variety, and new co-op option, but lamented its story and certain gameplay sequences. For more, check out GameSpot's full review.

@queuing_for_PS4 The PC has far more quality PC only titles than any console has or ever will have.

@queuing_for_PS4 Because we have PC's that are already more advanced than the system you are waiting for.

You would think these morons would at least wait longer than 24hrs to announce they screwed them yet again.

Not that we don't know how they play the game already.

@Doolz2024 I hate the big two but I still buy EA (and Activision) games Although there is definitely a lack of innovation and they screw you on the DLC their developers do make good games (for the most part) and not to play them would be punishing myself more than them.

I do wait for a year + until all of the DLC is available and you get the package deal on a Steam sale for <$20.

After doing some much research into why EA are such gigantic assholes, I've decided to buy this game two years from now, when it's featured in one of Steam's daily deals. Also, go **** yourself, EA.

So EA know that we love the horror in Dead Space, so what do they do? strip it out and sell it as DLC.

I like how CDProjectRED has done their DLC. All patches and fixes completely FREE to their PC consumers, and when they did add a large chunks to The Witcher 2, they not only released the game to a new platform with the new content in tact and kept it at the same price, but they also let those who have the PC version of the game, download the update COMPLETELY FREE. This is how you build trust with your consumers and create a loyal fanbase. Not by adding microtransaction into the game, and having BS DLC (weapon and resource packs) at a ridiculous price and overall just shafting them unless they fork over more cash.

@beuneus12 @MajahretDiviera True, but they have my loyalty thus far and im pretty sure that they will keep it up for a good long time. I dont mind paying for DLC, as long as it it fairly priced for the ammount of content that you get. One great example of this, was the extra Artorias of the abyss DLC for Dark souls. Well worth the asking price, and even when they brought it out for the PC, it was only 40 bucks for the game and dlc, then just 15 for DLC a month after for consoles.

@Triton Yeap, I'll surely check out their Ultimate Deluxe Premium Bundle with all the DLC next year for half the current price. I've got many games in my backlog waiting anyways.

Hmm...do I want to be rich and successful, or fair and popular? I think I'll go the EA way and con old people for money to invest in the arms trade. Let's not forget the EA motto: People keep buying, We'll keep selling.

"Disturbing" Yeah...charging for something that should have been in the game in the first place. Very apt word: "Disturbing".

I'm in no way sticking up for ea by any means, but they aren't the only company doing this. I love Gearbox and Borderlands 2, but their first DLC was out in less than a month. It happens all of the time, but ea doesn't do itself any favors by pumping out so much of it as fast as it does.

At the same time, you do not have to purchase any of it so speak with your wallet as it's the only thing that will show them how you feel. The other problem is (not saying that's what it is in this case) is that games have to go through a long approval process before they can get released so in some cases, the teams just continue working and instead of delaying the game any further they sell the new stuff as DLC.

I don't know, I just wish they would delay announcements like this for a bit to let people get into the game without having to then just get it and worry what's in the DLC right off the bat.

@nickpeck36 If you release it too late everyone says "I don't care I'm over that game." Release it too early they say "should have been in the game in the first place"

Finding that middle ground is difficult. I'm not always a fan of the business models used in the games industry today, but...I suppose they've got to do something to keep growing.

@Coren_Larken @nickpeck36 it's just a way for EA to keep investors happy. They show them, look we got DLCs, we got microtransactions, we got these big AAA titles in the works which gonna sell millions.

No growth prospect -> stock price stagnant or drop

But no-one is telling investors how these practices are pissing people off and making them not buy EA games

@beuneus12 @Coren_Larken @nickpeck36 Again, I do agree. Everyone has to answer to someone and you don't want to upset those that hand you the paycheck.

It is a hard middle ground as someone is always going to fee slighted and taken advantage of. Again, I have avoided EA anything for so many years but have been getting a few here n there that I do like.

As I said above, as long as my $60 is getting me a full game I'm good with it and can decide later on if I want any of the DLC or not.

@beuneus12 @nickpeck36 And how do you know it's only "half a game"? they said the SP is 10 to 12 hours long and DLC usually only adds a few hours. Do the math. $60 is buying you a full game.

@nickpeck36 @beuneus12 It's an exaggeration/Hyperbole buddy. It that rhetoric device/figure of speech we get from English class. Ok sarcasm aside, it is bad to get dlc that obviously does not seem to be bonus content. We're all smart enough to realize that we're getting screwed over deeply by a company over and again.

@beuneus12 @nickpeck36 Well hey, you can't always tell by reading a statement online :) Got ya though. Again, I see the point and can agree, but as long as the buy in price is getting you a full game I have no problems.

But at the same time, saying HEY, we have DLC the day after the game came out.... ya.... they really should hold off from now on lol.

it's more a statement of stuff being left out to resell later, don't take 'half the game' literally
