E3 2017: Destiny 2 On Xbox One X Runs At 30 FPS, Just Like PS4 Pro

It won't be 60 FPS, as it can on PC.

Destiny 2 will not run at 60 FPS even on Xbox One X, leaving the PC version as the only one to make that possible. Game director Luke Smith confirmed the game runs at 30 FPS on Xbox One X at E3 this week when he appeared on Geoff Keighley's show to reveal some technical detail. 30 FPS is the same frame rate as Destiny 2 on PS4 Pro.

Some thought Destiny 2 might run at a higher frame rate on Xbox One X because the console is more powerful than PS4 Pro, but that's not going to be the case, it seems. One possibility is that Bungie wanted to keep the frame rate the same on platforms to ensure the experience is as close to the same as possible--a subject Phil Spencer discussed with us at E3. "30 frames per second on all consoles," Smith said. The PC edition of Destiny 2, meanwhile, has an uncapped frame rate and other PC-specific features.

Now Playing: Destiny 2 Darkest Hour Story Trailer - E3 2017

In other Destiny 2 news, the game's beta trial dates have been revealed, with Activision confirming that pre-order customers will be able to play the beta on PlayStation 4 starting July 18, and on Xbox One beginning July 19. The beta will end on both platforms on July 23. The company also stated that a PC beta is planned for late August, with more details coming "soon."

Additionally, Destiny 2's release date has been moved up slightly, now launching on September 6, while the PC version will launch on October 24. You can read a lot more about Destiny 2 from its official reveal, including about how it's adding the ability for solo players to find groups to play Raids with. At its E3 2017 press conference, Sony also showed a cinematic trailer that suggested a strong story focus for the game.

As for Xbox One X, the more powerful console launches on November 7, priced at $500. A number of analysts believe that price point is too high.

Any reason this wasn't updated to reflect the reason? Isn't that kind of important? "All consoles will run at 30fps to deliver D2's AI counts, environment sizes, and # of players. They are all CPU-bound." - Mark Noseworthy

Sony knows that Destiny was earlier on the title that initially sold PS4s...it is a big seller and continues to move their console. Why would Bungie make a marketing deal with Sony, that promotes Sony hardware, yet release a better version of a game on a competitor of Sony? It does not happen....Nevertheless, I will hang onto Bungies greatest game Halo Reach and skip this title...at this time of the console cycle, there are plenty of games that will take proper advantage of Xbox consoles and the new X. And just to mention, I do have a Pro on 4k as well...I much rather run Horizon than Bungies new title.

Damn straight $500 is too high for a current gen console. Hope that thing falls flat on its face. Consoles trying to pretend their PC's with upgrades every year now. Pis off. Give me next gen or GTFO.

@Starhopper4: Next gen hardware would be $500 or more at this point... Not to mention, console manufacturers make their money on software, not hardware. Whether the X fails or not will not impact Xbox's strategy.

@https: //www.gamespot.com/profile/sorroww0lf/ Luke and Bungie is full of it, XBOX 1X can run 60 FPS but instead of Mr Luke admitting to trying to please Sony we hear some BS pertaining to "we want same experience on all consoles" but what happened to his argument "we tested consoles and the game cannot run 60 FPS " THIS IS BS

@ranger_529: These are simply lies defending a now inferior console...you just wait for Sony's negative propaganda when the X releases...they will point red ring issues, and several other piles of bull to the ignorant media who understand Nothing about hardware.

I'm still not sure I want to play this game. Destiny started to feel like a second non paying job. My interests have changed over the last few years an I'd much prefer to be out mountain biking or on the lake. Maybe I'll be more interested in this in the cold months but the time dedication required doesnt sound appealing.

@mynamesdenvrmax: Or you can wait until 2018 and pick up Anthem, BioWare's version of Destiny. Bungie has a 3 year head start on them though. Not to mention Bungie has always had that first person view, smooth as silk movement and awesome gun play. I'll play them both. Destiny is a fun game. IDGAF what anyone else thinks. Some stranger is gonna hate on me because I play a game they don't like or because they're all butt hurt because they think Bungie is ripping them off? LMAO. Whatever.

The new question gamers need to start asking is "does my favorite game run on my favorite console under unacceptable parameters?". If the answer is yes, move along. If the answer is no, buy a pc.

And to all the ponies talking crap about the xbox1x, I suggest you check out the E3 interview with the Arc Dev. PS fanboys spent the first year ragging on the lack of power and graphics capabilities of the og xbox1, now they have to sit back and take the comparisons between the Pro and xbox1x. Should be interesting. Can't wait until Nov 8th, and the gaming sites, do all the side by side comparisons. It will be telling. In the sense that many sites seem to have a Sony bias.

@chadhatessquad: lol even spencer knows how fucking doomed xbox is, he's practically in tears in every article. because he knows his company is taking a loss in the hope this good will, will make it into peoples homes, but with nothing but shit games and side scrolling gash indies, and copy paste forza, only the millenial kiddiewink demographic microsoft aimed the xbox at will actually care enough to buy it.

Luke Smith said they tried to get it to run on the ps4 pro, but it couldn't. So that kind of refutes the ps4, Xbox one parity argument. So I'm leaning towards the argument that Sony didn't want it to run 60fps on the competitor's console.

I'm kinda bummed, but D1 was still fun at 30fps, so I'm not worried. As long as Sony doesn't hold back the better 4k that the xbox1x can surely do, compared to the ps4 pro.

@sorroww0lf: This makes sense. Sony can't be the "home" for Destiny and have it run much better on the Xbox One X.

@sorroww0lf: If the PS4 couldn't do it(it could, but not anywhere close to 4k), how do you think the S could come anywhere close?

@joshrmeyer: I didn't say anything about the base ps4 or the Xbox 1 s. Luke Smith said ps4 pro couldn't handle it. So that means, none of the current consoles could do it. But if the Pro could have handled it, do you think Sony would have said no, in order to keep parity with the base ps4? Personally, I don't think they would have, instead, I think they would have used it sell more pros. And if it had been able to do it, then I think the xbox1x, would also be allowed to have a 60fps 4k version.

@sorroww0lf: Yes, PS4 Pro would keep parity with it's 60+ million players. I don't know how much Pro has sold but I'd say a few million... Please a few million and piss off 60 million? That'd be stupid. Every damn fps game besides destiny is 60fps... It's bullcrap if they say it can't do it. Lower the res if you have to, or use dynamic res. It's lazy programming if they can't make a game hit 60fps(which somehow they did on PC)(I'll have to look up the req specs for anything above 1080p 60fps medium/high settings.) The Pro should at least be able to handle that. The OG PS4 can handle it at 1080p 30fps as can the OG Xbox one.

Edit: did Luke say it couldn't handle it at 4k? Or at any resolution? I'll Google it after work.

1. MS promised only first party games at 4k

2.MS said they will not dictate how 3rd party devs should use the console capabilities

3.MS never promised 60fps at 4k

Anything outside of that is your pure personal speculation or a lie,be it pro or vs xbx

Bungie's statement has nothing to do with the PS4 Pro (this is just GamesSpot sensationalism) but they are related in this way: Bungie wants the game to run the same between both XBox Ones and both Playstation 4s, even if the more powerful consoles might be able to run the game at 60fps, so as to make the online play fair between all players. This is something to expect from online multi-player games, so if you are into those you won't get the bang for your buck with the newest consoles.

@Razorlight6: Not impossible but they could just cap multiplayer at 30 fps and have 60 fps for PvE where players aren't directly competing. I kinda doubt this is the reason.

@Razorlight6: Solution: Create separate online lobbies and let players decide. If someone with a launch Xbox/PS4 wants to play with people they know are running better consoles and 60 fps, let them. PC gamers never really know what they're getting into.

@tjkraz: That would go against another reason why they want the games to run similarly, so they can have as many available players for matches as possible. You can't keep gamers interested in a game when the online player base dwindles over time. They want to stave that off for as long as possible.
