Final Fantasy 7's PS4 Port Includes Cheats For Scrubs

Skip battles, refill your health, and more with these commands.

During PlayStation Experience 2015, Square Enix showed off the first gameplay trailer for the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. As expected, it elicited a response somewhere between euphoria and curmudgeonly party-pooping.

The PlayStation 4 port of the Final Fantasy 7 HD PC edition was also given a surprise release at the event. You may have missed it because, frankly, Square Enix is re-releasing Final Fantasy games so fast that it'll probably get featured on the next season of Top Gear.

It turns out that this version of the game features a number of new features that make the game considerably easier to play. As discovered by IGN, there are three cheats in total.

The first, activated by pressing the L3 and R3 sticks simultaneously will toggle random encounters on and off. If you've played this game before this will definitely save you time and help you get to the bit where the annoying healing girl gets shanked, which is the best bit.

If, however, you're playing this for the first time, don't read the paragraph before this and also don't use this cheat, because that's not how it was meant to be played and you should suffer through the obnoxiousness of that game's random battles like the rest of us did in the mid-nineties.

The second cheat, activated by holding down the L3 stick, will make the game run three times as fast, so you can get to the cross-dressing mission ASAP. We understand.

The third and final cheat, activated by pressing the R3 stick, lets you refill health and the Limit Break Meters, which pretty much makes the game entirely devoid of challenge, removes the sense of satisfaction you get from defeating enemies, and devalues the progression, thereby making playing it kind of pointless.

Anyways, enjoy.

Disclosure: GameSpot doesn't endorse cheating, unlike IGN.

" As discovered by IGN, there are three cheats in total."

As discovered by IGN? The game tells you how to activate them at the beginning of the game on the controller overlay. These "cheats" are there for people who have played these games 15 times and don't want to deal with the slow-ass grind they've dealt with for the past 15 years. X3 is a godsend for grinding. The other two I don't use, but the X3, that is awesome.

@SaberRin: I agree, I have beaten this game a few times. The x3 speed is amazing, like on emulators, only they go a lot faster.

Why in the world do we need cheats like those? Come on that is just making entirely pointless unless someone who never played it before discovers it and plows through the game exploiting them. It's better to endure without them, trust me better experience that way.

@RogerioFM: Maybe not play the game if you find it boring? Alternatively you can cheat and make playing the game pointless. Fucking hell people who cheat a game are stupid in the head

@esqueejy: I have to say me and my 8 year old son have been laughing at "take your panties off buttcrack autopilot" for a whole day now. And no I'm not calling your humor childish or anything since I started the laughing (we're all eight deep down anyway, right?). Good stuff! Thanks for that!

Great, now even the official staff are trolls, lol.

Good joke though for all the salt it will cause.

Lol.

"the bit where the annoying healing girl gets shanked, which is the best bit."

Double lol. Squared.

If you've never played FF7, I'm pretty sure none of these spoilers matter, even the healing girl - I mean you clearly had 20 years to play FF7 and didn't so why do you care?

Lol, this article is amazing...and i'm not joking.

Anyway, the only one i would really use is the L3 one because those games were slow as heck, and time is definitely a restrain now that we didn't have 20 years ago...so yeah, good for Square for letting you use those options.

"Final Fantasy 7's PS4 Port Includes Cheats For Scrubs" What, FF7 contains cheats for a game based on Scrubs? Well, I hope they get Zach Braff to do voice over for that game.

Using cheats in a singleplayer game is nothing to berate. It's your choice if you want to use them at all, which ones you want to use and in which situations. No one should tell you that it's wrong to use cheats (but there are always people who will).

On the bright side I feel like there's a good chance that everyone who gets this wrapped about people "cheating" in single player games is probably too uptight to do gross and horribly uncontrolled things like have sex or engage in interpersonal relationships so there's a good chance they'll be the last stop of their gene pool :')

@shadowfaxframe: DUDE: Poe's Law. If you think the author of the article was even remotely serious and wasn't just engaged in tongue-in-cheek razzing, then you need to bring your sarcasm-o-meter to the shop.

Lol I wonder what it feels like to be so self righteous and uptight that you get a dopamine rush from playing a video game by arbitrary rules as well as by telling other people by which arbitrary rules they're allowed to enjoy their video games.

Not that I really want to find out or anything, seems like a pretty miserable existence.

I do recommend people to play without cheats, but it's a single player game. Who cares if someone uses cheats. It won't affect my game. If it increases their fun, more power to them. I don't judge. *shrug*

In the end it will be the lazy players that will suffer, so I don't mind. You will run into a boss that you will NOT defeat, because you're too lay to grind and raise your overall level and limit breaks. Example: "Materia Keeper" at Mt. Nibel.

@sonypony4eva: lawl you mean the easiest boss in the game? The one you can poison and simply defend until it dies? THAT'S your hardest boss? Besides the one that Red XIII fights you can kill with an item? That one?

FF7 poses absolutely zero challenge. Don't pretend like it does. Adding a cheat doesn't mean squat to a title 20 years old.

Even without the cheats, FF7 is an insanely easy game. If you ever got stuck, you just grinded a couple levels to continue on.

These cheats make the game faster which it should be because grinding sucks.

I love this version because the only difference between cheats and non cheats is I destroy the enemies faster.

FF7 without cheats requires no skill at all. All you do is "Button Mash X". This is the game that made that phrase popular.

The article writer is salty and a cry baby man child.

@stuff238: All jRPGs are insanely easy.

That's literally all you can do. "Oh I can't kill this boss. Guess I'll go grind shit for 3 hours and then try again."

Only have an issue with the Last one . should be patched out or an option to remove it, it is practically god mode, just ignore the R3 stick and it's a good experience imo.

lol what a great comment, 'cheats for scrubs' absolutely spot on Mr Hussain. You'll upset some kids that cheat, exploit and glitch their way through games though. Yep, just read some comments below, they're angry.
