Next Xbox in 2012, PS4 dev ramping up - Report

To everyone saying that Halo 4 is coming out next year so why make a new Xbox - more than likely you can play original Xbox games, and Xbox 360 games on the next Xbox. But there do tend to be graphical glitches in doing so.

I think its way too early for a new xbox and PS. There is still plenty developers can do with the current generation of consoles. These damn companies just want to force us to spend more and more and more on their damn products, and this is another step they are taking in that direction.

@GunBladeHero I'm pretty sure the Kinect will work with the next XBox console. From everything I've heard out of Microsoft lately, it sounds like they have more things they want to do with the Kinect - on console and PC.

I doubt it comes out next year. Why? Halo 4 comes out next year, confirmed to be on 360. Who in their right mind would release a new console when their biggest first party game comes out on your old one in the same timeframe? Unless of course Halo 4 also comes out on the new Xbox, like Twilight Princess did for GC/Wii. I say 2013 for sure.

@Freezezzy It's kind of sudden, but I guess they've both been working on new consoles for a while, like Nintendo. I think there's been a lot of gamers feeling like console gaming is beginning to lag behind modern PC games in terms of horsepower and graphics, and now Microsoft and Sony are deciding it might be a good time to do something about it. It's a stark contrast to like a year or two ago, when we heard people saying, "We expect this console gen to go on longer than 5 years." So idk, maybe Nintendo's unveiling of the Wii-U made everyone decide now's a good time to move on. But I think they've just been waiting for the right moment to put out a new console.

@AuronAXE , Well, you know that they say. If it aint broke, don't fix it, but that's all they do with games nowadays. Remember how cool Halo 2 is? They seriously sh**ted on Halo 3 by trying to make graphics as good as possible and left gameplay in the dust. Its sad, but that's how games are nowadays. If anyone doesn't believe me, go look at that mess BF3. I'm really disappointed about that game, although it doesn't really surprise me that much, because EA owns it...

The new xbox will have a hex-core CPU with 2 gigs of DDR3 ram and AMD is making the GPU. That is what I know is fact. But that could change given the fact that hard drives are a lot of money now. My point. They wanna sell as low as they can and hard drive are a lot of money right now. And yes, Blu-Ray is in it.

And with that the kinect will last 1 more year without any memorable game?

So MS is going to release halo4 for xbox360, along side xbox720? That would be stupid. I dont see xbox 720 dropping before 2013. Might get a sneak peek in 2012 but the plans(as stated be MS) around halo4 just dont marry with these rumours.

@safaridriver I think you'll find it's not so much due to people superior to that of the current consoles.

@Fernin-Ker THAT'S WHAT I THOUGHT! I never really heard Microsoft specifically say, "Halo 4 will be an XBox 360 game"... I'm wondering if it'll be the launch title for the next XBox. I'm kind of hoping, anyway.

Can't wait to see what kind of insane DRM sony uses for that thing. retina scanning so only the registered buyer of the game can see the games on the screen XD

@caffiend7 It is very stupid. Halo 4 has been set to be released on the 360 next year. Does anyone believe that MS would release a new system the end of 2012 with Halo 4 in the same time frame? I still see it coming out as early as 2013. I agree that the 360 still has some good years left in it.

To be honest, it sounds like they're rushing to either beat Nintendo to the punch, or at least release theirs as soon after (the Wii-U) as possible, which does not bode well for gamers.

I find myself wondering if they're gonna pull up Halo 4 and be like "Remember that pre rendered trailer we showed last year? Well guess what. It wasn't pre rendered...."

Xbox # Three in November 2012. Sounds excellent, I want to see a head on battle Xbox "#3" Versus the Wii U. Launch both of them on the same day, Lets get the 8th Generation of Console "Wars" and or "Race" started Microsoft VS Nintendo. The Playstation 4 should be that last console out of the gate. I am ready for a new Xbox and a New Nintendo. Sigh.... I really want Playstation 4. Sigh....Sony will take a little while longer to get their successor console ready...What a tough life for the Megavideogamer waiting for Playstation 4. Looks like I'll have to make do with the other 2.....

@doolindesperado I wonder that too. I figured the PS3 would be around with some new games well into the PS4's (?) lifetime, kind of like the PSX and PS2 games were still around for a while. Now that one of Sony's developers is going all in and working on PS4 games, I wonder what this means for PS3 games. Maybe they'll have some of their other big developers keep the PS3 games coming though.

It would be a strong, strong move if Microsoft would release a new, powerful Xbox next year but with a relatively 'low' price. It could really deal a blow to Sony, I think.

I just hope MS doesn't screw us with a HDD-less SKU and rape us on the accessories again. And hopefully Sony learned their lesson. I bought the 60 around Jan. for $500 and now have the 250 GB pack after it broke the third time and really miss the old PS3's features, especially BC and dramatically improve PSN even if it has to go to a subscription service to make it better, and hopefully something better than PSN+. Even so I'm definitely getting both.

I guess im excited, but I cant help but feel sad that Ill have to replace my PS3. Its been there for so long. Soon it'll be sitting next to the ole PS2 and PS on the shelf.

I wonder what studio of Sony's has stopped production on PS3 games.

well if they are starting development on ps4 games for launch then that only means the console is two to three years away from launch.

I think I'd like to get the new Xbox. I hope they put some sweet tech inside it so they can run the epic engines. (but no new RROD please!)

I think late 2012 to early 2013 sounds about right for a new XBox console. PS3 could probably hang around for a little while yet, I imagine Sony would release a new console by 2015, but perhaps closer to 2014. My feelings toward the next generation of gaming consoles are bittersweet. On one hand, I want to see what improvements we can expect. On the other hand, I think gaming has gone absolutely bananas in the last 5 years and now everyone is like addicted to them... I miss the days when we could just enjoy gaming without having everyone else tell us what games we should be buying and playing, and telling us to hurry up and finish this game because its sequel comes out in a month, etc etc. OXM had a pretty good mini-article about it in their latest issue. I really agree with it - a good game should withstand the test of time and be worth playing years after it came out. And if the game is supposedly bad, we should be able to decide that for ourselves.

i know times are hard but that shouldn't stop us from being excited about new tech, isn't that why we love tech in the first place?

VERY IMPORTANT TO READ how do you think no wait HOW CAN YOU THINK to get over 360 and PS3 there the best consoles in all the videogame history beautiful details, stories, multiplayer .what can you expect for next generation platforms bigger videocard, more memory (which it can only support a little number of games since they are going to make them "better" and it will ocupy 2 GB) better online, what diferent main menu, all with over 400$ and with a different format so the last platform games will be useless the only one that needs to make another consoles is nintendo to equal or to make a battle to sony and microsoft and not with a useless tablet (wiiu) also they can make new accesories like they did with PSmove and kinect and wiiremote plus think by ending i will say no one said this before it will be another case of red light of dead (XBOX) or a bad functioning piece(PS) and over half of the users wil have one of this problems and to prevent this the only thing they have to do is come out with a diferent model of PS3 or Xbox with better pieces thats it Note: if you think the same way as me copy and paste this comment and also you can troll me as bad as you can but i will keep with my ideas

@method115 I know but if (assuming) they officially unveil the console at E3 in May, that leaves just 8 months to convince people to buy it. The initial launch of a console is attempting to get a wide user base. The wide user base draws more developers on board. The more developers make a larger game library. The large game library expands the user base to sustain the cycle for the rest of the console's life. Without a decent launch, it can be really hard for a console to find it's footing in the market. Look at how long it took the PS3 to catch up after it's sluggish launch.

Meanwhile I'm still up to my ears in enough PS2/DS/PSP games to last through another 10 year generation and find no need for new hardware.

this is completely stupid both systems have been doing really well i finally got a ps3 because it was finally cheap to afford and the 360 still has soo much potential.

I'm curious to see as to how much difference there will be between this gen and the next- next gen consoles. What I'm stoked about is the new middle ware being developed by companies such as Epic and Square Enix. The true tale of how powerful the machines will be is dependent on how effective they run the new game engines such as Unreal Engine 4 and Luminous.

I'd rather have games that are giant then games that look photorealistic. With the new consoles, I hope they don't only focus on graphics and we get games as small as CoD. Remember how big some PS2 games were compared to games today?

idk, at this point it still seems rushed, out of the five years i've owned my xbox, it has broken down 4 times because they wanted to get their crap out before sony did

To Sony, add PS2/PS3 BC and ill buy a PS4, as long as you don't start ripping 1st release features out.

If they don't,sequelitis will make every franchise out there feel stale,and gamers will reach a breaking point,where they will stop playing and paying for milked sequels.Also new console releases always come out with some sucessful new IPs... IMO At this point Next Gen is our only hope to see some true advancements in gaming,actually even if they continue pumping out sequels,at least they will be able to improve them thanks to stronger hardware... @safaridriver PC is the most customizable platform,nothing stopping you from plugging it to a big TV and playing games with a controller,if you're going to insult PC gaming,at least get some knowledge about it first,at this point,all your comments are invalid...

For once I'm actually not looking forward to a new console release. I'm happy with my consoles as they are.

@zequex Well the end of 2012 is basically 2013 so you were kind of right. Consoles are almost always released during the holidays for obvious reasons.
