Nvidia Shield shipping July 31

Company thanks fans for patience, says $300 gaming portable will launch on the last day of the month.

The Nvidia Shield portable gaming device will ship on July 31, Nvidia recently announced on its website.

No Caption Provided

"We want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through the shipment delay of your Shield," Nvidia said in a statement.

The Nvidia Shield was delayed last month one day before it was scheduled to launch due to the discovery of a mechanical issue.

"Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted Shield to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry," the company said. "We built Shield because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do."

The $300 Nvidia Shield gives gamers access to an array of gaming avenues, including Nvidia TegraZone, Google Play, and Steam. The system runs on the Tegra 4 processor and boasts 16GB of memory, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, a mini-HDMI output, a microSD storage slot, and a headphone jack.

The device also features a five-inch, 720p multi-touch display. For more on the Nvidia Shield, check out GameSpot's preview of the device from the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.

Yes. I don't know how limited it is. Can't imagine something like Civilization working all too well.

It looks alright.. but I can't think of one good reason to bother buying one..?

I don't want to stream my PC games.. I play them on my PC with a nice full keyboard, a pinpoint accurate mouse and a massive monitor.

I don't need something to play android games on.. my mobile and tablet have been doing that for years.

So, why do I need this?

3DS weaker than PSP? What the hell are you talking about?

3DS is clearly more powerful than PSP, just look at the specs.

Oh, and try to run RE: Revelations on PSP lol.

@Kimppis people underestimate the 3ds's power and Revelations is a perfect example of what it can do graphically, great lighting and shadows with effects psp could never pull off.

@HaloinventedFPS Yeah, $300 is a great price provided u have the $1000 rig to be able to stream efficiently to the device. Other than that, there is no use for the device. I'll be getting a 3DS soon because it actually has good games.

@Prats1993 @HaloinventedFPS you don't need a $1000 rig to stream games at 720p, I built my rig for much less and can play new games in1080p with high settings, get your facts right.

So will this thing have its own unique library of games like the 3DS, or is it just a means of streaming games from ur PC?

Would it play games which can't be played on PC due to insufficient minimum requirements? Suppose I buy a game which needs a better processor, gfx, RAM and all, than the ones my PC has, so that games wouldn't run above 12-15 frame per second. Would it play the same games above the mentioned fps via streaming?

Anyone who buys this shouldn't be complaining about the price of the Xbone or PS3...heck they shouldn't be complaining about the price of any console in general

@Soulreavercross Its not the price of the two consoles its how boring and similar the games look, they are just weak Pc's and you have to pay for multiplayer for some fucked up reason, the true gaming consoles this gen are 3ds, Wii u and ps vita

@Soulreavercross I think this generation is a great example of why people shouldn't complain about pricing, hell were getting new consoles that are the same or cheaper than last gen except for the Wii.

When I bought the Sega Saturn as a kid it was $399.99 and that was in 1995 I think,

However I do think there are other devices that will get you more bang for your buck and original IPs but then again those devices ( 3DS, Vita, Cell Phones ) don't have such a nice screen, speakers, or in my opinion controller, and with a tablet controls can be horrible as there's no real feedback to your hands and it's easy to miss the icons that serve as buttons.

The thing is bulky though but if it wasn't it wouldn't have those special things that I mentioned above.

I'll be waiting to see reviews on this before I even consider buying one as I'm a bit unimpressed by what it will be able to do.

With OnLive this thing would rock though, I think Nvidia should give every buyer a 6 month subscription to OnLive playpack with a coupon for a free game.

Not to be rude @Soulreavercross but users on here do have a right not to like something, as I said I'm not very sure of this product but I do think for all it has it's not a bad price but the fact is it's big, doesn't make phone calls or do things many other devices can do that also play android games, and as for steam I can imagine for $300 with a tegra 4 cpu this thing ain't gonna be playing Metro LL or Tomb Raider.

@Helios_Sun @Moegitto @feared4power @Soulreavercross how is steaming from your pc onto your handheld a great idea? Since it operates on Wifi, you have to be relatively proximate to the pc. I guess you can lay in bed and play games with this thing, but is that really worth $300 bucks? The only other advantage I see is the ability to increase game performance and graphics. Since the device screen runs at 720p, you can lower you pc resolution and increase other graphical settings.

There are ways this device could be good if you have a fast internet connection and want to stream PC games to it then you got PC quality games on a handheld for $300.

The problem is most people don't have a gaming PC and lots don't have a fast enough connection to stream from OnLives cloud gaming service.

There's a small market for this thing but if they add more features like netflix and so on it could be a good portable.

I'm still not convinced it will be good but I'll be happy if I'm proven wrong.

So does this mean once I log into my google play or steam account I can play any of the games I have already bought on my phone, tablet, or steam account as long as they fit with the Shields specs? I ask because I was told with Ouya I would have to re buy all the games.

@PosiTVEMinD355 @toddx77 I'm pretty sure you do have to buy a new copy with Ouya but don't quote me.

In Ouyas defense though all games will have to have modified controls and I'm sure there are other compatibility issues that will have to be addressed for games to play on Ouya even if it is running Android.

You can try any game on Ouya though. no demos for a handful of games every other month but full trials so at least if your buying a new game you can try it out on ouya first.

@mkeezay22 You would think though even if some control things had to be re done it would all still be linked to your google play account. I love my games I have bought on google play by I can't even justify buying games like FF3, FF Dimensions,or Sonic 4 again.

@toddx77 im not sure about the google play but for steam you aren't loading your games onto the device you are streaming them over local wifi so you don't have to rebuy those. Just a limited number of titles are supported at launch tho since its a beta feature.
