Nvidia Shield shipping July 31

Company thanks fans for patience, says $300 gaming portable will launch on the last day of the month.

The Nvidia Shield portable gaming device will ship on July 31, Nvidia recently announced on its website.

"We want to thank you for your patience and for sticking with us through the shipment delay of your Shield," Nvidia said in a statement.

The Nvidia Shield was delayed last month one day before it was scheduled to launch due to the discovery of a mechanical issue.

"Our goal has always been to ship the perfect product, so we made sure we submitted Shield to the most rigorous mechanical testing and quality assurance standards in the industry," the company said. "We built Shield because we love playing games, and we hope you enjoy it as much as we do."

The $300 Nvidia Shield gives gamers access to an array of gaming avenues, including Nvidia TegraZone, Google Play, and Steam. The system runs on the Tegra 4 processor and boasts 16GB of memory, GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, a mini-HDMI output, a microSD storage slot, and a headphone jack.

The device also features a five-inch, 720p multi-touch display. For more on the Nvidia Shield, check out GameSpot's preview of the device from the 2013 Consumer Electronics Show earlier this year.

All you people spruiking your PC and saying that the Shield doesn't compare please remember that this is designed as a portable device. It isn't meant to replace your PC it's meant to be used when you can't play your PC. So unless you take a generator and your entire desk setup with you every time you go out this does have it's place and can do things your PC can't. Whether or not this is the handheld for you is a completely different matter but comparing it to your PC is just stupid.

I don't know... TBH it looks really bulky in your hands... and looks uncomfortable... i probably won't pick it up on that basis. And it does not have Exclusives unlike the Vita and 3ds... So i'll pass and save for Next Gen and wii u

@digits52 That's the spirit, hell a $300 graphics card can do a lot even though some gamers think people need to buy a titan just to play games at console level in 1080p

I agree with you. People think they have to spend over a $1000 on a PC to play games at high end when you can built it yourself a save a few hundreds.

Lol I felt like I just read a cook book just now, but yes it's true what you said. It is fairly easy for someone to do. Instead of buying a built one from a company that's charging you more than you can do yourself for less.

@JohnnyGT1 I think people just get nervous when it comes to building a PC, they think it's a ton of work.

Hell people grab a tower, throw in some raisers to put your mobo on, toss some sticks of ram in there, put a card in that PCI express port, if you didn't get a mobo cpu combo grab a cpu but I suggest getting a combo, throw in a blu ray drive and your set,add an ssd for faster gaming and a big ass HDD for storage and BAM! as that cook would say.

Your all done, have fun gaming full force.

@sonyfreak456 I would buy ouya for kids honestly, they don't know what's cutting edge and they like good and bad games alike.

I think Ouya is a perfect console for kids and casual gamers, I don't have any problem with hardcore gamers buying it I just think they might regret it but for $100 you can't go wrong for a console for the kids that already has a ton of games.

@mkeezay22 @sonyfreak456 Yeah as long as you dont expect console quality games when it comes to graphics you will be ok.

The emulators and awesome android games will keep you happy plus it has the Onlive app.

@HonorOfGod @mkeezay22 definitely it will be,and since it goes right over each eye fully it envelopes your peripheral vision which helps make it safer on the eyes than say a 3D TV and also adds a huge amount of immersion.

I'm just gonna have a hard time getting used to touching stuff in game without feeling it in real life, my brains gonna be so confused.

@HonorOfGod well games like Portal 2 are already compatible with OR so the main specs must be complete,I bet most of their time now is being spent testing and refining it.

@HonorOfGod @mkeezay22 yeh that's what I thought, hell most android games are well under a gig so it will almost be like having it on your HDD but even faster sinse the whole thing can be loaded from the readily active memory.

I honestly hope the Ouya does well and I might even buy one, the gaming industry needs more people trying new things.

@HonorOfGod yeh I thought so, at least it will be able to load many full games into the active memory so loading will be minimal after the first load.

@HonorOfGod @mkeezay22 @sonyfreak456

well OnLive well deliver PC quality games but the Ouya has more ram than Xbox 360 it just doesn't have that 3.6 GHz processor, I still expect it will deliver some fun games even if they aren't graphically top notch.

wait does Ouya have 1 gig of ram or 2, 360 has 512 MB right?

@sonyfreak456 Keep in mind that the Ouya will be updated yearly with the latest Tegra cpu. The one out now has a Tegra3 but since its plugged in it should hold up ok with next gen Tegra games unlike cell phones which rely on the battery.

@HonorOfGod Thats true and there are some games like Real Racing I wouldn't mind playing, the thing I like about Ouya either than the price is the large library of games and the fact you can try every game before you buy.
