PSP price drops to $170

I thought about getting one but I just dont think I have time to play it.

BTW, just to clarify, I always play with the "darkest" screen setting, which is still HELLA bright IMO, and I also always have the wifi switch turned off, unless I'm gonna use it. BUT, I only have the 1800mah Battery, the 2200 one is supposed to last 30% more!, I was gonna buy it, Until I realized the whole, short battery life, thing was just a myth. I might still get it, in the distant future, if my current battery ever starts to show signs of aging.

There's alot of crap being said here. Most from people who don't own psp's. I have one, battery life is at least a good eight hours solid. Now the price is very comparable to the ds, but you can't compare it to the ds because it is two completely different types of gaming. The ds is for quirky quick shot games and brain teasers. The psp is for real games with good graphics that you can take to work in your pocket.

@passentry: 2 HOURS !? WTF!? mine lasts AT LEAST 8 HOURS!!! I cross the Atlantic often, it's a 12 hour flight, but 14+ if you factor in plane changes, waits, etc. and my PSP has NEVER let me down so far ! Obviously it's not on for a full 14 hours, but in those 14 hours I get in at least 6 solid hours of gaming, and my psp has NEVER run outta juice on me. Oh, and I KNOW that it's AT LEAST 6 because Tales of eternia counts the time you've spent playing, and according to it, on my last trip I spent 6:34 playing ToE, and I also spent a few minutes playing the MotoGP demo, so I'm SURE of it.

There's no excuse now. For all those of you who don't own a PSP and consider yourselves gamers, you need to experience this sweet system. It is not better or worse than the DS, since they both play different, so just enjoy it for what it is. Don't forget to buy MGS:PO along with it, I loved that game!

gee wiz guys how about a lifetime supply of free videogames to go with it..you are getting a handheld for a pretty cool price--more powerful than the nintendo ds and ds lite plus it is still the same color--unlike the ds--the psp is more powerful than any handheld out there..so either buy the psp and love it-or dont buy it and leave psp owners alone..the ds is still same price monstromo-----how about dissin nintendo for a cheaper ds.. .. ... more variety of games that doesnt require you to touch the screen like a moron--did i mention more variety..

I think Sony has some major problems to overcome with the PSP. It is now an older product in the mind of the consumer. However, it has not been revamped. I know it is much more sophisticated than an ipod, but that is how people look at it. So redo it's look. Especially put up a line of different colors. Like brushed metal, white, red, black, blue, pinkl And some sort of shape change to make it look more dynamic and exciting. And solve the movie disc format problem. Go with dynamic downloads off of the PC and the PS3. A price drop just looks like they trying to sell off the backlog. That never works very well as a long term plan. What sucks is that it really like the PSP as a portable game player. I am going into the hospital for two to four weeks and I am going to buy Syphon Filter!

I get the impression that there is a remodeled psp that might be due out soon. There are some trails that i have found in some of sonys statements in other topics that kinda give off the impression, but im going to shut-up before i get sued.....

You guys should Check out DJMAx Portable, import game from Korea, the best PSP game in my opinion. (No region protection)

I was hoping it would be $150, that would have helped Sony a lot, but still ... $169 for a system like that isn't too bad considering the DS is $130. I'm going to get one.

@Foxhound1013 You are of course entitled to your opinion. I personally believe the opposite to you as I have 17 excellent DS games and I personally only want 2 PSP games (Portable Ops and the not yet released remake of Rondo of Blood ). I look forward to buying a PSP when the price drops low enough to justify me buying it for 2 games.

I predict two years before there's a PS3/PSP combo pack for the same price the PS3 is going fo now.

Cool ! now psp gotten better but should have the price even lower. and the games in the psp rocks i don't know why many people say DS is better but for me PSP because of the games (Daxter,Tekken,Metal Gear Solid,) not to mention you can play your old PS1 games (Castlevania SOTN,Final Fantasy VII,VIII) and there are more upcoming games (Castlevania DX,Crisis Core FFVII,DMC (to be announced).DS is good becasue of the nintendo games but PSP rocks because The Good 1.Many Good games(can play PS1 games) 2.Looks Freaking Awesome The Bad 1.Controls are a Bit different 2.The Discount Price is a Little and its still expnensive Overall If your in to PS games just buy the freaking console if not buy THAT DAMN DS!!!!!!!1

Let's see... RPGs: Neither, although PSP may get a boost if Disgaea turns out as good as the console one was. Driving: PSP by far. Nothing on DS yet compares to Burnout Legends or Liberty City Stories. RTS: Neither. Simulation: DS. Animal Crossing, Theme Park, etc. Puzzle: DS, barely. If only because the excellent Puyo Pop Fever was released statewide, unlike its PSP version. 2D Platform: Both. Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow and Mega Man Powered Up are great. 3D Platform: Hard to say. I've only played Super Mario 64 DS at this time. FPS: DS, barely. Metroid is very similar to the legendary Quake III in many ways. Sports: PSP. Due to the higher processor speed and fancier 3D graphics engine.

The biggest reason the sales of the DS are much higher than the PSP is Japan. 15 million have been bought there and only 5 million PSPs. In Europe and USA though, it is actually 8 million PSPs in each territory and 12 million DS's in each territory. Overall the sales of the DS are close to double the PSPs, but again, for all of us here to be saying the PSP sucks is kind of dumb since only the Japanese seem to think that way if you compare sales, since they are a stronger handheld market than the rest of the world. So all in all, the PSP is only doing terribly in Japan, NOT anywhere else.

yeah psp's are pretty much worthless ... i work for gamestop and we actually got so many in on trade that we don't even take them anymore ... before the critmas season i hadn't sold one for about 4 months ... and after christmas we got about half of the ones we sold back in ... when i owned one ... all it was good for was being hacked ... but that wasn't even worth it with the stupid firmware updates .... and i'm gonna have to agree that the umd movies were worthless ... should i pay 20 bucks for a umd ... or 15 for the dvd.... think that one over

BILLNYE6983 is right. Too bad the majority of his target audience won't be bothered reading such a 'long' post and will continue to post the same garbage anyway... GS really needs heavier moderation, posts like "Like this will help Sony beat the fantasticly selling DS" and "Meh!" (Check, they're there), should be deleted and if repeat offenses occur, warnings/bans etc be given. Otherwise, the comments section will only be a festering pile of fanboyism (which is usually what I treat it as now). About the article, more games going into the Greates Hits is always good news. Hopefully some more rpgs will come out so people don't have to rely on emulation for games. I don't know about an Australian price drop, but I haven't seen many people with handhelds here. Possibly with the recent release of the PS3 and the compatibility between the two (still don't know exactly how, but apparently you can use a psp as a rear view mirror for some games etc?), psp sales will rise.

Makhdoom82 Sony also announced new version of the PSP so maybe they want to squeeze out as much money as they can from this portable while they can !!! But Apart from handfull of titles what else has PSP got. I bought Daxter and Mega Man Powered Up. I can say that it has no more then 20 interesting titles and thats it and i wont watch movies on PSP. Sorry !!! No more than 20? That sounds like a good amount. Do you have 20 games for it right now? Why do people continue to knock the PSPs ability to watch movies? Its better than not being able to watch them at all. I think PSP hate is too exaggerated. They have some great games, homebrew makes it even better, and the ability to put movies, pics, and portable internet makes it great.

UltraWoody DS is selling cause it's less expensive not cause it's better than the PSP plus there are way more Gameboy fans but for the PSP it's a new thing.

To those who just aren't into the PSP, nothing I say is directed towards you, you just don't like it, that's cool. But to those who say the PSP has no good games, your smoking some crack cause it does. And why do ports suddenly not matter... especially a handheld port, handheld ports get changed so much they may as well be considered new games. Regardless even without ports the PSP still has great games so still not sure how it sucks I don't know if someone can explain to me why GS has give so many more PSP games above 7.9 (that's when they are 'great') than the DS, how the DS is better than the PSP and how the PSP sucks. I don't dislike the DS, just asking in what why is it better, it offers much more features, and you CANNOT debate that one, and is now only what $50 more... it's more powerful (not saying that makes it better but to most people it's a big deal) and doubles as a portable media device... so I don't know those people who want it to be cheaper must not understand that Sony is not a charity... damn if you want to PSP to be $100 bucks I would hate to see you barter with someone, (I'll give you a snickers for that T.V.! no I'm kidding... I'll give you TWO snickers, AND... a milkyway...). Yo Ultrawoody the only reason why the DS is selling more is because there are alt more asians and nerds who love Nintendo more then anything else in this world, trust me there are 5 kids on my bus everymorng the are playing like fricken pokemon AND THEY ARE IN 8th GRADE!

The numbers speak the truth, people. DS is selling a LOT more than PSP for a reason. Try not to fool yourselves for thinking otherwise. Too bad I can't say that about the Wii. That will fade soon enough, too.

AgileNate 1- why bring PS3 into this? 2- There are more quality games in the PSP than the DS( Metal Gear, GTA, Daxter, Loco roco, Syphone Filter ...) 3- we understand u feel bad after doing the bad decision to sell ur PSP, too bad if u were patient enough u would be happy like all the people with a PSP :D dont worry u can buy it when the new version comes out it'll be way cheaper :)
