I missed the awards, just caught up...., imo either Bloodborne, TW3 or F4 should have won..., expected TW3 or BBC to win, ..... hoping more for BB, as recognition...since From Software hasn't won many lately... but F4 ( on legendary mode) is the best game, even if by a small margin.. , while TW3 felt the freshest, it's more "story" than "gameplay", and giving it GOTY might send wrong signals (and lately story focused games have been winning over gameplay)

I hope From Software finds some recognition in player reviews. Award winning.. great, but gamer appraisal should be al that matters.

Anyway, grats to the winners

Could not imagine that DIce awards would be worse than GS one this year, who gives best action award to EA Cashgrab wars, and BEST RPG to FO4?? :D

lol Outstanding Achievement in Game Design went to The Witcher 3, good fucking god. Outstanding game design of what exactly? The worst inventory UI to ever grace our screens? The shitty combat? Try playing Bloodborne you Witcher fanboy buffoons. The outstanding world environment that's as repetitive as the quest design? The 93 second load times? The useless in game economy? The pointless items or loot drops? When you play the entire game on its hardest difficulty with just Witcher gear, you've got to wonder exactly what the game design team were doing. The asinine overly drawn out main story design that has no branching paths that mean anything at all? The repetitive rinse and repeat subquest design? The lack of character design? I'm at a complete loss as to how it won this award, or any award to be honest. Over rated garbage will always be over rated garbage no matter how much fanboys laud it.

@Salt_AU: As much as I agree with the repetitive quests, I never got tired of exploring the world as it was really beautiful. The loot left much to be desired, but this is a problem in most current games. There's always that one set that is going to beat out all the rest. Load times was not an issue for me, I bought a very nice computer (but I can understand that can be frustrating). The story and characters more than made up for the repetition, especially if you've read the books as I did. The expansion is on par with the quality of the original story. The Witcher 2 tied in really well to Witcher 3.

Fallout 4 is a huge step back from Fallout 3 when it comes to some design choices. Examples include the poor voice acting, the dumbed down dialogue wheels, The gameplay/combat is much better than FO 3, but honestly that's not saying a lot because it was a poor standard to compare it to. There's some very nice things about FO 4 like the funny environmental surprises you'll find like the bathtub and the toaster...but I don't think the atmosphere is alive as what is in the Witcher. The main character suffers the same problems as things like Far Cry - dry and forgettable. Geralt is a boring character too if you want to compare, but emotionally boring and there's a reason for it and it makes it fit into the game.

Bottom line: each game has it's flaws, I think TW 3 has a better story and overall feel to it's world that lets you ignore the grind. FO4 is the more enjoyable game to play through because of the combat, but definitely suffers in the story department.

What constitute an action game?
There were some awesome games in 2015... Star Wars Battlefront was not one of them! I didn't even play Tomb Raider, and I know it has more action, and wasn't even nominated.
And I'm sorry... But Fallout is neither GOTY nor RPG of the Year....

Bloodborne wasn't even nominated for a music composition, game design or art direction award. That alone shows how obsolete these awards are.

And what exactly is Witcher's technical achievement? Running at sub 30 fps almost constantly on the consoles?

What was great about Fallout's game direction? The dull Minecraft sim portions? How exactly are its RPG elements better than Witcher's? Hell it even got nominated for a story award.

glad, this isnt my list..GOTY is the Witcher 3 to me.. im still playing that game. fallout 4 is a good game but played it for about 10 hours and got bored. that has never happened to me playing the witcher 3. and i really dont see how Fallout 4 beat the witcher 3 for best RPG..its doesnt beat it on any level. But, this just goes to show opinions will always vary.

Well here's a few things I disagree with:

GOTY: the witcher 3 for me, fallout 4 doesnt do anything great other than being moddeable, and being popular based on past games, while TW3 is by far the most competent and balanced one in all aspects.

Art direction: bloodborne or witcher for me, Ori looks great, but not because of art direction.

RPG: this one is the worst offender imo, the one game that didnt deserve it for any reason won, Pillars has role-playing depth and complexity, Undertale originality and character, Bloodborne the best game design and gameplay, and The Witcher 3 is the best in terms of narrative, immersion, audiovisuals, etc. I personally don't think that FO4 had anything to do comparable to those merits.

Game design: there's no way the witcher 3 should've won that, although seeing the other nominees, the entire selection is either average or I and the judges have an extremely different meaning for what game design means. Bloodborne, and darkest dungeon are just two of the top of my head that deserved it more than any of the nominees.

Oh and what the hell they were thinking with the genres? is tomb raider not an action game? simulation and RTS in the same category? its quite absurd.

@yeah_28: To each their own. I really enjoyed the actual game mechanics in FO4 and didn't enjoy TW3 AT ALL. at that point, to ME, it doesn't matter which one has a better story or more RPG elements. I had a LOT more fun playing FO4. (granted the endings were terrible but that's a different discussion.)

It does seem strange to me that FO4 was even nominated for RPG, so I'll give you that one.

@Berserk8989: Exactly, see my post below and your questions will be answered. It's a popularity contest, that's why. And the witcher and Fallout catered to casuals. Bottom line. but what is awesome is that From Soft won't change the way they do things just to be popular, which is called selling out, which is what every other developer has done, pretty much.

@jdlok: popularity = selling out...? Uhh... maybe some ideas are just more popoular than others...? The Witcher was never really popular until the 3rd game, and they never streamlined, or simplified or sold out on their ideology of what makes a good game, just that the open world style they went with is uber popular these days, and it was really the first big next gen RPG of that style, I think that helped immensely.

It's a hilarious joke that Bloodborne hasn't won any awards. It's clearly by a New York mile the most creative game of this generation (best art direction, level design, GAME PLAY), I could go on and on and on and on and on. These things can't really even be debated. Why even put the game up for nomination when inferior games are winning the awards? It's pathetic, and only serves to prove that the industry is only about popularity. Yes, more people play and like the witcher than Bloodborne, and it probably has higher metacritic user scores than Bloodborne, but does that make it a better game? Hell no it doesn't. That makes it the more popular game because it is more casual friendly than Bloodborne, and fanboys consistently use this logic when defending the witcher, and boy does that anger me...but but but LOOK at the witcher metacritic scores!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, it does offend me that Bloodborne is not being recognized for the achievement that it is, while bland and boring the witcher wins everything. It offends me because I care.

Answer me this: How the heck does the witcher win "Outstanding achievement in game design", while Bloodborne (CLEARLY the winner in this category), isn't even nominated? The witcher doesn't even have any design, it's one bland non-open world that ALL LOOKS The same (not to mention awful awful cliched art direction), while Bloodborne is a meticulously detailed game world with mind blowing level design that blows any other developers level design, art direction, gameplay, EVERYTHING, out of the water.

I feel bad for From Soft, they make the best games in the industry, period, and they never get any recognition. BUT it's good to know that FROM SOFT ain't gonna change to win some award, and that I like.

@jdlok: There's no need to get too upset, like you said above these things ARE usually a popularity contest, the game with the bigger audience will usually get more votes. Bloodborne sold well enough, got great praise from critics and gamers alike, but it sold millions less than FO4 or TW3 so it's not hard to see why it got less recognition during an award like this. The game got plenty of praise and recognition throughout the year though, almost everyone agrees it's a good game, so don't let the popularity contests like these awards sour you on other games! Award shows are basically always bogus... games aren't alone in that regard.

We're free to argue back and forth with our opinions but there's no point in taking this award show as the LAW, it's not PROOF that one game is objectively better than another or anything, and I don't think anyone really looks at these when making purchasing decisions or investment plans... From Software is well recognized for what they do I think, even if they get snubbed in awards like this.

I'm kinda confused, what game is the overall game of the year? I thought The Witcher 3 won it a while ago but apparently it's Fallout now? I'm not a fanboy but i played both games and i personally thought The Witcher 3 was better than Fallout, Fallout kinda disappointed me.

This is just my opinion and all by it honestly seems insulting to all the other games in the list that Fallout 4 got OUTSTANDING DIRECTION. Bethesda doesn't know how to direct worth a damn lol, every setup and scene in their games is as bland as the hills, no cinematic flare, no real camera effects at use... nothing, they don't direct squat! If anything the player is the real director of Bethesda games... so maybe that's what they were going for...? Or maybe I'm just misunderstanding what exactly they mean by "direction"...?

Eh, not a big deal or anything, just Bethesda games really stand out as being behind the times in that category in particular, I can't say I'm actually upset or anything as all these award shows do their own thing and I'm never going to agree with them all!

I am not a fan boy whatever that is. I have played and beat both Fallout 4 and The Witcher 3. The witcher 3 is better in everyway. Graphics, story, pace, and beauty of the open world. Everything felt the same to me in Fallout 4 and I thought the main story line was not anything special. Also the side quest in Fallout were bland and the voice acting sucked. Fallout 4 is a good game but it is a joke to say it is a better game than the witcher. If you have an actual argument of why you think fallout 4 is a better game please let me know.

@Salt_AU: I might be a Witcher fanboy (am I, I don't know?) but I really think FO4 is the least deserving of all those games... Ori and the Blind Forest or Bloodborne could have taken it and I wouldn't have really bat an eye, but FO3 is the worst of the new FO games so it just doesn't add up imo...

Glad Fallout 4 won. About time it got some attention. Every one likes to talk about how "flawed" or "dumded down" it is that they forget how flawed and base the Witcher was at launch. Both are great games and both have been steadily improved since launch.

I see alot of mentions of "Bethesda Fanboys", but all I see in the comments are babies crying because they can't handle the fact the Witcher lost.

I have clocked well over 200 hours in each game and completed both. I enjoyed both games, but being perfectly honest I spent more time in the Commonwealth and found Fallout 4 to have much more longterm appeal.

Everyone seems to think the Witcher did something amazing or revolutionary, but it didn't. It is just another Fantasy RPG. It is a great and very well put together RPG, but it is still nothing new.

@blaise0fgl0ry: You're not implying that Fallout 4 is new are you...? I'm not gonna argue against personal opinions here but your claim seems to be that because The Witcher is as flawed as Fallout 4 it can't possibly be better... and that seems like a bit of a wonky stance.

I mean TW3 really is amazing from an artistic/directorial standpoint, a technical standpoint, and for the story telling in places... if it didn't click with you that's cool, but you can't just write it off and say it didn't really do anything special... I mean especially compared to Fallout which doesn't even TRY to do anything special. I like both games as well, but it's not hard to see which game actually tried ot push the boundaries, and which one just popped out a sequel knowing it'd fly off shelves.

@nl_skipper: No, I realize Fallout 4 doesn't bring much new to the table either, but either does the Witcher 3. That was what I said and that was my point.

And Whether as you say Fallout 4 attempts to push the boundaries or not doesn't change the fact that it's a satisfying, robust RPG experience.

Im not trying to take away anything from The Witcher, but I don't know what "special boundaries" are being pushed here. Its just a different satisfying, robust RPG experience.

@blaise0fgl0ry: Fair points all around, not dissing your opinion or anything, GotY is always going to be debatable so I can't really argue with your/their choice of FO4... I really hate the idea of an actual GotY though, too many good games come out in any given year, and with so much variety in gameplay, it's almost kind of stupid to try and directly compare them sometimes.

@nl_skipper: A reasonable point of view. I enjoyed both games and many more besides in 2015. Great year for gamers!

@nl_skipper: What's amazing about the art direction in the witcher? Are you serious? Look at the armor designs and compare them to Bloodborne and tell me with a straight face that the witcher has better artistic merits than Bloodborne, and I will laugh in your face.

@jdlok: it has actually, making stuff look artificially cool for no reason isnt automatically "great art direction" in all cases, bloodborne has great art, but the witcher also does, just in a different way.

there hasn't been a single game in history with the attention to detail and authentic well thought out art direction that the witcher 3 has, perhaps except for the witcher 2. When i read people calling TW's aesthetics generic its obvious they dont understand a single thing about what that word means, and about history.

You seem to be too hurt and bent on defining whats superior, instead of realizing different doesnt always mean better or worse.

Both games have terrific art design, imo any of the two should've won that category.

@jdlok: Well not just talking of the armour designs... and I never played much of Bloodborne so I can't really comment on a comparison... both games are beautiful and have wonderful direction from what I saw and played of them though. Bloodborne looks great but I'm just not a big fan of that Gothic style of From Software games, though I can still appreciate the hard work and I know it took some talented artists to give the game such a cohesive style.

If you're saying TW3 looks like crap then I just don't see it... more than one game is allowed to have great artistic design, and imo both Blodborne and The Witcher have done so.

No way is Fallout 4 better than the Witcher 3, Witcher 3 took things to the next level!

Dice have no sense of what is better that's the most I can say but you'd think with people working with games that they 'd be able to look at all the negatives that FO4 has and it certainly has many in comparison.

Most Innovative, best story, best voice acting, most improved these things all quite clearly go to Witcher 3 I can't even see how anyone can argue this!

Fallout 4 is running on an outdated engine it has awful graphics, terrible interface which doesn't even allow you to easily control FPS and all the other details the voice acting is terrible the story is far from impressive and even the gameplay it's not exactly a good RPG and how can you forget the absolute loads of bugs in this game and I don't want to hear "but it's a Bethesda game they always have that" we're not in the 80's or 90's anymore sure you will have bugs in every game but Bethesda absolutely take the piss with it to put it simple it's just lazy and lazy certainly isn't worthy of GOTY.

It baffles me that people think Tomb Raider has good writing and voice acting. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game by any means, but to give Lara character of the year? Please.
