When you compare how dumbed down Fallout 4 is compared to Fallout 3 and how improved Witcher 3 is from Witcher 2, I think the real winner becomes more apparent. Both games are great, but in my humble opinion Witcher 3 is one of the best games released in the last 10-15 years. The adventure game of the year was unfinished on every front except it's game engine, I still can't wrap my head around that. MGS 4 will stand in my book as the best in the series, and again comparing 5 to 4 is just disappointing.

GOTY aside, I'm kinda surprised that Marcin Przybyłowicz, Mikołaj Stroiński and Percival have got so few awards for TW3 music. I think it was really great.

@Vojtass: Of course can't forget the soundtrack.

It was obvious for me soon as I played the game in the first few hours I didn't think anything would be at the same level that Red Projekt set and Bethesda certainly didn't come close.

wow bunch of Bethesda fan boy theres. fall out 4 was not a good game at all. it was a rehash of 3 and vegas mixed with mindcraft elements. just my opinion on fallout 4. atleast all there other sites and fans know the real winner witcher 3. best game ever hands down and only made with a 80 man team who cared and loved the game they were making.

boo dice and fallout 4 rehash so disappointed in you today

Based on how Halo fanboys have been acting for months you would think Halo 5 would have been game of the year. Not even nominated.

How can Fallout 4 win an award like Game Direction? I mean WHAT game direction? It's just another Bethesda open world game and their weakest release yet...

Fallout 4 seem to did well. I have bias againts fallout as it was hugely disappointing game for me. I went back and played old fallout 3 and new vegas modded. I realized that even fallout 3 wasn't that great tbh there is no build up in story like in new vegas where so many of your actions have an effect on the ending. Fallout 4 ending was so anticlimatic for me.

There were so many disappoinments in Fallout 4. When you place fences and wall they always float and same with the houses. That alone made me unhappy about it but it wasn't even enough. There whole minutemen faction were all about grinding radiants and hauling all the crap from the world. That unpolishness that Fallout 4 has just isn't going to cut it for much longer in competitive market like this.

Fallout 4 game of the year. What a fucking joke.

An RPG that fails at being an RPG and manages to make an apocalypse full of mutants boring. Yeah that is definitely GOTY.

@dexda: But you can build HOUSES! Screw branching paths during quests and a dialogue system where what you say matters when you can build HOUSES and GUNS. That is after all what made Fallout so great in the first place. Right?

Good that Battlefront won an award for its sound design. Dice makes the best sounding games out there and deserve all the recognition in the world.

I'm a Witcher fanboy (even made a mod for TW1 called The Weird World of the Witcher) and so I don't agree with the choice of winners for the first two awards, but Fallout 4 isn't a bad choice either. The Witcher 3 did win in a few other important areas like story and game design, as well as technical achievement.

Nice to see that Dice also won at the DICE Awards.

I liked Fallout 4 but it did not deserve to win the RPG title of the year against Witcher 3. This is a joke, Fallout 4 is barely an RPG. If Fallout 4 is an RPG then Metal Gear deserve to be one too.

It's unfortunate as a Fallout fan to see such hatred for the game. Fallout was usually so underrated, but Fallout 4 was so hyped and ended up being casualized in several ways that it was just dissapointing...

@001011000101101: It won Action game of the year not something like sound design which I agree that it deserves to win. It should have won for that reason and for the visual reason alone and nothing else.

Fallout 4 is a good game, but not a stellar game. Witcher 3 was last years best game by far, for me it is one the best games in the last 10 years. But well to each their own..... How MGSV and SW: Battlefront are getting awards besides when it comes to graphics is beyond me. MGSV was an unfinished piece of crap and Battlefront is the definition of shallow.... But again, to each their own i guess.

Well done Fallout... These awards are as just as legitimate as any others.

Witcher 3 has won around 4 GOTY's for every 1 that Fallout 4 has won, making TW3 the clear winner and deservedly so, but FO4 comes second this year. Fallout 4 is a good game, it's just not the 'new shiny' any more. But there is still much to appreciate which these awards did.

The salt in this thread is very funny.

Complete bullshit, when I saw outstanding achievement in game direction I knew it was a popularity contest. Fallout 3.5 sucks, let's see... Terrible repetitive/simplistic gameplay? Check. Terrible half assed story? Check. Clunky animations? Check. Bugs? Check. 2010 graphics? Check. Bland world? Check. Repetitive fetch quests? Check. Boring characters? Check. How did this garbage Fallout 3 expansion win anything? I love how the Bugthesda fanboys still run with the whole "OH WITCHER 3 HAS TERRIBLE GAMEPLAY!" As if they know what good gameplay is, one of those idiots told me that Skyrim has better gameplay than TW3. SKYRIM, the simplistic piece of shit where you spam the same button over and over.

Every single game nominated next to F4 in the GotY category deserved the award far more than F4.. but who cares, even from looking at the other categories and the games nominated there (and some of the winners) and you can clearly see these awards are a joke

Fallout doesn't deserve those two awards. Witcher 3 was robbed. Fallout 4 was a modded version of vegas. Nothing new or ground breaking.

I don't see how anyone could honestly tell me (after having played both games) that fallout 4 is in any way shape or form a better game, let alone a better "RPG" than the Witcher 3.

Witcher 3 had a better story, lot better writing, better characters, much deeper rpg mechanics, choices that actually mattered, a heck of a lot better animation quality/non-janky engine.

@Stiler: Yeah I loved the animation of Gerald when you run and jump and he does a ridiculously awkward looking vertical jump, its even better when he gets in combat and can't step over an ankle high log. Lets not even start on swimming and horse riding. Better characters? There are none better than Dogmeat alone, shit even Marcy was more interesting than anything from the Witcher, at least she has a name you can pronounce. The writing? The ugliest man alive, a handful of druids (all voiced by the same bloke, all with the same character model), some asinine story about some horses with the 'Wild Hunt' (whoever came up with that name needs some help) that are after (get this one for originality) a princess that has special powers! **** me, what a complete fucking joke.

You as the player get to control one of the worst characters ever created in gaming history. Some poorly voiced awkward dude with a girls ponytail that attempts to talk to an NPC, steals a loaf of bread instead because of horrendously shitty controls and promptly gets schooled by a city guard. A dopey looking, unwashed, over weight city guard completely schools the famous Gerald of Riverrun! I thought to myself, good fucking god, who writes this shit! Send the fucking guards on your repetitive errands instead.

Don't even get me started on the choices that impact the game because Fallout 4 leaves it for dead. Alter the landscape, move objects in the world, nuke a faction and leave a crater or side with them instead. The Witcher 3 offers nothing at all in terms of choice that actually impact your 'gameplay'. Nothing.

@Salt_AU: Dogmeat? You mean the zero-writing-zero-character that isn't even that useful in the game? The animations of jumping? Have you played Fallout 4 in third person? Do a jump, tell me how it looks.

If you honestly think the horse animations (Which were mocapped) in Witcher 3 are bad, look at oblivion's horse animations or skyrims, that's terrible.

Fallout 4 is a ham-fisted story with no nuances or well developed characters.

Show me anything that comes close to the emotion and writing of say, the Bloody Baron and that entire storyline in fallout 4.

@Stiler: Did you just say play in third person? A Bethesda Game Studio's game in third person? Its a 'choice' for the player (and not the correct choice btw), you know, just like the way Witcher gives you a 'choice' to play in first person! lol. You're all upset about Fallout 4's engine, its also an engine that allows you to drastically alter its landscape, move objects completely, leave objects in a different location and is completely and incredibly moddable. Would you like to talk about mods on The Witcher 3 vs Fallout 4? Maybe the mods that will be available one year from their respective release dates? No, I didn't think so either. That 'engine' which is absolutely fine btw, is extremely user friendly to modders. That was and always has been a huge consideration with any BGS game.

I also loved the bit where you compare Oblivion from 2006 to The Witcher 3 from 2015. Would you like me to remind you of The Witcher from 2007 (Iol I could link some videos if you like) and compare it to anything from Fallout 4? The Witcher 3's animations, riding, audio and polish of riding Roach vs Fallout 4s animations, movement, audio and polish of getting into and moving around in Power Armor. Sorry champ, Roach isn't even in the same paddock.

Edit: I'll give you the Bloody Baron, that was a great story. More interesting and better written than the main story sadly. That doesn't make up for the many glaring gameplay problems The Witcher 3 has though.

@Salt_AU: The settlements were an after-thought, they had no story element and really add nothing to the game aside from giving minecraft type players something to do "on the side" while playing the game, you can literally ignore it and play the game without even touching it.

Not to mention they (at least at release) didn't even have basic building elements that allowed you to build things decently (IE grid placement, isometeric view to align/place things higher). It felt like they didn't really care about the ease of building or the functions of it.

If you honestly think Fallout 4's engine and animations are better than the Witcher 3 go right ahead.

I'd take Witcher 3's engine and graphics over fallout 4's ability to "pick up junk and move it about" any day o fthe week.

Also I'd rather buy a game and play it and enjoy it rather than having to wait a year or so for "modders" to fix it and make it a much better game.

Modding is good, and it's one of Bethseda's strongest points but that's NOT an excuse for making an underwhelming game and leaving it up to people to fix the shortcomings.

Look at Witcher 3's post-release patches, CD Projekt constnatly released patches, they IMPROVED on what peopel wanted (IE giving us storage, making the horse animation and Geralt movement quicker), and other things. The free dlc, the actual GOOD expansion, all without even hiking up the price of the season pass to get new sales unlike another studio....

@Stiler: Fallout is not 'underwhelming', its not 'mediocre', it doesn't need 'fixing' from modders, you're talking through your arse to be honest. The settlement feature is no different to any housing feature found in almost every RPG (well, except The Witcher, they gave you a box on the floor after 3 months). Keep getting angry fanboy, The Witcher 3 is grossly over rated, we both know it but keep flying your little Witcher flag kid. What ever makes you happy. Save your money and never purchase a Bethesda game again if you're really that upset. I'm sure they'll be upset without your purchase.

I think Fallout 4 is the worst Fallout game ever. And TW3 is one of the best games ever made and your anger, your hate about this game is just proof that this game is so good.
