Xbox One Is "Most Attractive" Console This Holiday, UK Boss Says

"We've been very focused on building the right plan to get us through this period."

As the all-important holiday season approaches, Xbox UK marketing executive Harvey Eagle has spoken out to say he is "very confident" in the sales potential for Xbox One over the coming weeks. The console's lineup of games, new features like backwards compatibility, and deals make the console the "most attractive console to buy out there," Eagle said in the latest issue of MCV, as reported by Videogamer.

"We've been very focused on building the right plan to get us through this period," he said. "With the new features, the great new games that have just come out, some of the amazing games that are about to come out, plus some of the deals that we and our retail partners will have, we're making the Xbox One the most attractive console to buy out there."

"It makes us very confident in how the next few weeks are going to go," he added.

Microsoft heads into the holiday season with some level of momentum, as the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 during October 2015 in the United States. This achievement was particularly noteworthy given that the PS4 received its first price cut during the month, dropping down to $350 to become level with the Xbox One.

Should the Xbox One have a strong holiday as it relates to Xbox One sales, you shouldn't expect Microsoft to announce new sales numbers, however. Eagle reiterated that Microsoft is more likely to share metrics like "engagement and usage" instead of hard console sales.

"We want to report on a monthly basis engagement and usage of the most-engaged Xbox players and we want to focus on bringing the highest amount of people to the console that we can," he said. "And the Xbox One is the fastest-selling Xbox console that we've had."

Following Microsoft's latest earnings report at the end of October, GameSpot was informed that Microsoft will focus more on Xbox Live usership figures instead of console shipment numbers going forward.

I remember the good ol' days when game sites rarely posted articles about what some suit and tie marketing guy had to say. Now we are being bombarded with PR talk day after day. :sigh: Please take me back to the 90's...

@Moonco: Well, it's not that easy to make games anymore, so there is less news, and you guys don't won't accept news about indies, so what else are they supposed to talk about?

@Barighm: Gamespot can start by writing original features about the game industry and interview the developers. Remember when guys like James Mielke, Andy Eddy, Greg Kasavin, etc. would write compelling articles worth reading?

@Moonco: These types of articles pay the bills. These are organic ads. They use buzzwords and phrases said by the people making the product so they can put it in their headlines for clicks.

These are pointless, baseless ads. No one in their right mind would write an article in any other industry how Gamestop writes these. It makes no sense. There is no news in this, just a statement from a very bias source. It's an ad.

Halo 5 was okay. And I could have waited for Tomb Raider. Ps4 players aren't missing much.

@wkadalie: Everything I've read about Rise suggests it's more of the same except the tombs are a lot bigger.

@Barighm: Bigger Tombs and more combat options, but exactly the same. I can't believe how people are raving about how good it was. I liked the reboot. But i wanted something a bit more. Like Uncharted 4 looks to deliver something amazing.

@BlazeKingz:

GS was always favoring MS and lately they have been favoring their close ally EA too.

Wishfull thinking is not going to help the xone to run games in full HD though...

It's the "most attractive" because everyone already owns a PS4.

Zing!

I would want one if it was smaller, had the PSU in the box, had a removable internal drive and they actually put a good fan in there that wasn't so loud. It also lacks the power for me to care, why would I play my games on it when they cannot even hit 1080/60? Rather just play on my PC.

Such a shame because back in the day consoles would launch 2 years ahead of the PC.

@Slannmage: the **** you talkin bout?! X1 is the quitest console. Unlike the PS3.5 that sounds like a jet plane if you play for longer than an hour and can hear a small room all by itself. Lol get a life or better yet a better hobby than trolling.

@plus_1: Every single one I've heard has a loud fan that sounds like it's hitting something... just clicking away and it's so annoying. I got one at launch, it did it, I sold it and bout another one for Forza Horizon 2 and it did it so I sold it again, my friends does it, the ones in the shop do it...

I don't care about air noise, I hate that clicking and besides the newest PS4 model is very quiet now.

@plus_1: That PS3.5 comment makes no sense. They're nothing alike. Heck, if they were, it would be a GOOD thing.

@Slannmage: Is the size really a problem for you? Does the PSU get in your way often? Why do you need an internal removable hard drive when you can add an external one? You clearly have never been around an running X1 because it is nearly silent all the time. If you care so much about power, of which the X1 has nearly as much as the PS4, then why aren't you gaming solely on the PC you clearly have?

What console ever launched 2 years ahead of the PC? (in power, I assume)
