Xbox One Is "Most Attractive" Console This Holiday, UK Boss Says

"We've been very focused on building the right plan to get us through this period."

As the all-important holiday season approaches, Xbox UK marketing executive Harvey Eagle has spoken out to say he is "very confident" in the sales potential for Xbox One over the coming weeks. The console's lineup of games, new features like backwards compatibility, and deals make the console the "most attractive console to buy out there," Eagle said in the latest issue of MCV, as reported by Videogamer.

"We've been very focused on building the right plan to get us through this period," he said. "With the new features, the great new games that have just come out, some of the amazing games that are about to come out, plus some of the deals that we and our retail partners will have, we're making the Xbox One the most attractive console to buy out there."

"It makes us very confident in how the next few weeks are going to go," he added.

Microsoft heads into the holiday season with some level of momentum, as the Xbox One outsold the PlayStation 4 during October 2015 in the United States. This achievement was particularly noteworthy given that the PS4 received its first price cut during the month, dropping down to $350 to become level with the Xbox One.

Should the Xbox One have a strong holiday as it relates to Xbox One sales, you shouldn't expect Microsoft to announce new sales numbers, however. Eagle reiterated that Microsoft is more likely to share metrics like "engagement and usage" instead of hard console sales.

"We want to report on a monthly basis engagement and usage of the most-engaged Xbox players and we want to focus on bringing the highest amount of people to the console that we can," he said. "And the Xbox One is the fastest-selling Xbox console that we've had."

Following Microsoft's latest earnings report at the end of October, GameSpot was informed that Microsoft will focus more on Xbox Live usership figures instead of console shipment numbers going forward.

Considering the backwards compatibility, the two exclusives that Xbox currently has over PlayStation for the seasonal holiday coming up and the fact that discounts are inbound it probably does look more appealing to a casual gamer. If I find one cheap enough I may invest which means I can sell my 360 at last and still play the back catalogue I own and experience a few exclusives into the bargain. I hope that they sell enough for them to keep interest in the console market. If Xbox was to cease then it would be bad for PlayStation gamers. Competition makes things better for all gamers.

@gotrekfabian: The Xbox is more attractive this holiday but people don't buy a console for 2 months, people buy it for a few years, and looking at what's ahead for Playstation people will still aim towards it ...

@livedreamplay: That is where you are wrong. The informed gamer doesn't but casuals and parents or partners buying gifts for their other half do buy things for that very reason. This is the season that sales staff blind those who don't know about these things with banter and make them buy things that the person being bought the gift didn't want!

The informed and hardcore gamer however is a different story. I'll give you that!

@gotrekfabian: Most of the people buying gifts will have consulted the person before doing so (especially when an approx 500$ gift is involved), so in the end it's still mostly the gamer's decision. And with next year in mind, we all know what the people are going to want ... I'm not saying PS will sell more this holiday, but they will definitely be up there, and unless MS has some massive games up his sleeve, next year is going to be a knockout.

@gotrekfabian: 2 exclusives? I'd say 4 exclusives this fall over the PS4. Gears, Halo, Forza and TR were all excellent games

@sladey: Forza and Gears were both released a while ago and quite niche in their appeal to the casual gamer, more so Gears admittedly. If you want to include games that far back then PlayStation has the better exclusives. The other two will be the ones that people look to when considering an Xbone right now.

I'm not liking the new update. It's still unintuitive and layed out weird. And it doesn't seem much faster than the old interface. Glad it's selling okay. Sony need to get off their butts and get them exclusives released.

@halvedlife: I was the same way in preview mode, but after spending time with it, i see how it is such an improvement. Navigation is very easy for me now and don't think I could go back to the old way

@Mr_Mark_Legion: Yeah, complete nonsense. Xbox 360 dominated the market and must have sold more and more quickly too.

Xbox 360 Sold : 84 million
Playstation 3 Sold: 83.8 million

Massive domination from Xbox truly. :))

@livedreamplay: Overall numbers do not paint the picture. Xbox 360 dominated from the off (releasing first being a major win for Xbox although it could have gone horribly awry) and dominating until towards the end of the consoles life cycle. PS 3 also only caught up by many people having to replace faulty PS3s. Xbox honoured their customers and resolved millions of RRODs instead of just making people buy another despite being out of warranty. On top of that 360 being the lead format for development also swayed people towards 360 due to games being optimised for it and not PS3.

And just to let you know, I owned both last gen and was an early adopter of both. There is no prejudice in my statement. Just saying how it was.

@gotrekfabian: If you ask me, the fact that they caught up with Xbox 360 towards the end says a lot. Regarding the RROD, with 50% of the consoles being faulty it would've probably been the end of Xbox if they didn't make the repair free. As for the 10% faulty percentage of YLOD, PS3 didn't need to handle it the same way. But we digress, saying massive domination when in the end there were the same numbers sold is a massive exageration. :)

@gottago42: I just find that really hard to believe. Last gen many of my friends and acquaintances had Xbox 360 but this gen I only know a couple of people who own it and even peoples children seem to talk of PlayStation and not Xbox One.

I am the same as yourself having said that: I am a gamer through and through and I am here to play games. I don't affiliate with one company, I go with what works for me and the chances are I will end up buying an Xbox One at some point as well. It was just the opposite way around last gen: Xbox first.
