Xbox One launching in November for $500

Microsoft reveals pricing for next-gen platform, confirms system to launch this holiday; gamers can reserve Day One Edition today.

Microsoft today announced during its 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing that the Xbox One will launch across the world this November at $499/€499/£429.

No Caption Provided

In addition, Microsoft revealed that gamers can reserve an Xbox One Day One Edition beginning today. Reserving the bundle guarantees players can purchase the new system on day one, including black packaging, a limited-edition Xbox One Day One wireless controller, and a Day One achievement.

In addition, those who pick up an Xbox One Day One Edition system will get various digital bonuses for games like Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Dead Rising 3.

Preorders for the standard Xbox One console are now open through GameStop and Amazon.

The Xbox 360 launched in 2005 for $300/$400. Sony has yet to disclose pricing information for the PlayStation 4. The company's E3 2013 briefing takes place tonight at 6 p.m. PDT.

A Rare developer earlier today let slip the November launch window for the Xbox One.

@shorty0785 Yup I agree but Microsoft is convinced that people want it as they will use it . Ironically, they announced that it's not necessary to use. It's the same thing when the PS3 came out. SONY should have offered 2 versions. One with Blu Ray and one without. But I guess money is what they only care about.

Mark my words, PS 4 will win this time.

@MarcKlein @shorty0785 Thy couldn't offer 2 version ... because offering with bluray and without bluray would mean they need to create 2 discs for each game one that is bluray and one that is non bluray ...

@poeticas @MarcKlein @shorty0785 Not true because the blu ray would be used for movies and TV. Come to think of it, not many people want the Kinect and yet Microsoft is forcing us to buy it regardless. No reason to include it in the box.

Lets compare XBOX One with XBOX 360.

On XBOX 360 I can share my games with an infinite number of family members and friends. I can sell XBOX 360 games to anyone, anywhere, at anytime. You can trade in your games to any store accepting them for credit without restrictions or conditions. Games do not need to be authenticated online, or installed to the hard drive. Internet is not required for XBOX 360.

On XBOX 360 you are not forced to pay for something you do not want, nor need i.e. Kinect, effectively causing you to pay a higher price for no reason at all.

XBOX One can do none of these things. It's a step back, not a leap forward. PS4 allows you to do all of this and more, it's truly next gen.

If Demo games for XBOX ONE were played on PC, how we may know about characteristics of the console?

I dont think a lot of people are really looking at what the Xbox one offers. I think a lot of people are seeing the console with a tint because of the things they believe.

1. Xbox One will not block used games, their policy is the same as Sonys

2.While you do need to connect every 24 hours, it has been confirmed that you can even use a cell phone to make the required ping.

3. The sharing of games has several cool options, Up to 10 chosen "family" can access your entire library from anywhere. (this is limited to one of these people on a given game at a time though, and this does not block you from playing). You share your library of games with anyone using the same xbox (provided you want to). Your Xbox Gold will share with people on the same box. And also the one people are worried about is that outside the ones above you can share a given game with a person once, but that is the game can be shared with a given person once, but that is still multiple sharings.

4 Kinect while included with every system and must be plugged into the system. However every feature of the kinect can be turned off.

These things are not as bad as it seems, Im not saying they are all great policies, but i think more the lack of clarity and explanation has caused problems than some of the actual policies. Oh and i just want to point out that smartglass is an app for Tablets and phones, it is not its own device.

And just to help here are references.

@rem234 Are you serious?

1. Xbox will not block? They will not block BUT... Have you read the license?

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

2. Seriously, if you want to play and your ISP is down you do realize it's a hassle on your side to grab your phone and connect to your Xbox One just so that you can play instead of just simply playing?

3. Several "cool" options? I don't even have to answer this one.

4. If you turn off your kinect, then how can you play?

Not bad as it seems means that you are just accepting the product's enforced restrictions. Open your mind. Console games are played simply by putting the game in your console and turning it on.

Actually i'm a thinking consumer who sees not much difference between this and steam, other than price. No fanboyism none of that I see a entertainment medium that I have loved continue to spiral with increased costs and people looking out only for themselves. When we as 'Gamers' cheer for studios closing by the dozen and only care about paying the least amount for our entertainment then things like "Free to win" games start popping up more and more resulting in the loss of good games. Also wasn't aware that Microsoft closed their servers pretty sure they just added a bunch. I just think people need to wait till all details are out and stop jumping to conclusions following someone else's opinion. This is a page dedicated to Xbox stop trolling cause it seems cool these days and if you don't like it don't read it.

And the fun doesn't stop.

"Taken together, experts say, those revelations show the government has broadly interpreted the Patriot Act provision as enabling it to collect data not just on specific individuals, but on millions of Americans with no suspected terrorist connections."

And you people worry about the Xbox One.. Microsoft is just going with the flow.

@Alkpaz I'm honestly not sure why we Americans think anyone in the government gives a flying flip whether or not Johnny Adolesci spanks it to the Witcher. If you don't want to get caught doing something they really DO care about, try not planning bombings or government coups on your cell phone or within earshot of your Kinect. Sheesh.

Sorry Microsoft, but unless you get rid of all the crap that's limiting me as a consumer and until you stop treating your customers like criminals with online checks everyday you won't get my money. Specially at $500, PS4 is looking more tempting as time goes along.

-No used game buying/selling restrictions

-Can share games with friends/family

-No mandatory online connection required

-No 24-hour check-in authentication

-No mandatory game installs

-Region-Free

-User serviceable/upgradeable HDD

-No online subscription to access services you already pay for (Netflix, etc)

-More powerful CPU and nearly 2x faster RAM

-No required or cost-increasing camera accessory

-$100 less

PS4 absolutely owned the Xbox One. Micro$haft can try to deflect all the (well justified) heat with as many good games as they want, but for most gamers it comes down to ethics, consumer rights and value. Only ‘ONE’ of these systems respects these principals…

Console wars are so insignificant. I'm sticking with my 360 and will end up getting an Xbone a few years from now. The entire internet is suddenly against a console for trying to relate to more people. It's became a multimedia device now while Sony is featureless and just plays games. That's cool.

@PartyGavinParty How the hell does limiting everything a gamer does = "a console trying to relate to more people?"

I do not understand your flawed logic and neither will the other 99.9999999999% of anyone involved in gaming

Gamespot must be in panic mode or as blind as liberals concerning NSA violations......

The lead story right now should be the curb-stomping that was delivered to Microsoft last night by Sony. I have a feeling that price point that was posted by Microsoft yesterday may change now. In fact, it better change if they want to attempt to salvage/survive the "Red Wedding" they experienced last night.......... I love Microsoft, I have been a customer since 2003. I even got a nice email from them yesterday reminding me of that and pointing me to the unused link to pre-order the Rob Stark-Box........ what a shame..............

For the record, the last Sony product I bought was a PSP back in 2005. I am an Xbox fan. But this fall, I will buy the best system deal I can find that will play the next release of the Elder Scrolls franchise. My decision will no longer be based on manufacturer as I have done so in the past. The fat lady has sung.....

@QuadThumbs

Think of it this way so the audacity becomes crystal clear. Imagine if you went to the store and bought a DVD/bluray movie then went home and couldn't play it because you needed to get permission from someone on the internet. Also, let's say you want to let someone borrow that movie but can only let 10 people watch it in your own house. If you want to buy somebody's movie you have to pay a fee on top of the price of the movie too. Also, there's an HD camera watching you in your living room every day that links up to a company that has poor customer service and can be hacked or spied on especially by the US government.

I click on the page, and you would think SOny's BEASTLY PLAYSTATION 4 which is $100 less, and MORE powerful than the xbox one with out ALL THE RESTRICTIONS, would be the top story.... but no... its MICROSOFTS' CONTROL BOX! At the risk of sounding like a troll, Microsoft's nonsense in the coming generation will allow me to focus my time and money on my 3DS, WiiU, and the upcoming PS4. Maybe my backlog won't be as big.
