Xbox One launching in November for $500

Microsoft reveals pricing for next-gen platform, confirms system to launch this holiday; gamers can reserve Day One Edition today.

Microsoft today announced during its 2013 Electronic Entertainment Expo briefing that the Xbox One will launch across the world this November at $499/€499/£429.

No Caption Provided

In addition, Microsoft revealed that gamers can reserve an Xbox One Day One Edition beginning today. Reserving the bundle guarantees players can purchase the new system on day one, including black packaging, a limited-edition Xbox One Day One wireless controller, and a Day One achievement.

In addition, those who pick up an Xbox One Day One Edition system will get various digital bonuses for games like Ryse: Son of Rome, Forza Motorsport 5, Kinect Sports Rivals, and Dead Rising 3.

Preorders for the standard Xbox One console are now open through GameStop and Amazon.

The Xbox 360 launched in 2005 for $300/$400. Sony has yet to disclose pricing information for the PlayStation 4. The company's E3 2013 briefing takes place tonight at 6 p.m. PDT.

A Rare developer earlier today let slip the November launch window for the Xbox One.

This isn't about fanboys vs fanboys as Xbots (lemmings) r trying to make it out. It's gamers vs publishers (not necessarily developers).

Consumer rights vs corporate greed. It's really simple as that.

Do we really need those DRM, 24 hr online check, and controlled used games? No.

As someone said on Gamespot, it's not the used games nor piracy that costs developers and publishers to go under but overspending and over-marketing of games on a what seems to look like a over-saturated industry now due to mobile and casual gaming.

@Zaistev_basic 100% correct. AAA publishers are trying to obfuscate the real cause for their plight: their own mismanagement and greed. It's basic human (especially American/corporate) psychology...never take responsibility, never reverse course. Wall Street drove the global economy straight into a ditch...then asked this country to bail them out with tax-payer money. Similarly, AAA publishers look to be about to drive the console gaming business off a cliff...and at the same time are pointing fingers in every direction for someone else to blame...

Unless you're financially well-off, it's always wise to not be an early adopter since there's usually a price drop or a sale a few months later after the game console's launch.

Continue to enjoy playing your current game consoles. There are still a lot of great games coming up for the 360 and PS3.

@ScreamDream Even if that does happen, we gamers need to take a stance against M$ for what they are trying to do and boycott it still. We need to stand together and send a message to the greedy corporations that try to screw us whenever they can.

If people remember correctly, the launch price for the 80G PS3 was $599...and that was 8 years ago!

So $499 isn't really that bad considering todays inflation and Tech/Gig standards.

*edit @txgamerwavg made a great price/calender point below.

@Gravity_Slave Bad argument. Global/US recession still in effect. Median wages have gone DOWN since 2006. The economy was BOOMING in 2006 with no fear of people losing jobs by the millions. Cost of living has sky-rocketed with prices on nearly everything else doubling or tripling since 2006 (gas, energy, insurance, food, etc...). People are making less money in their jobs (if they have one) and have less disposable income to spend in 2013.

This is a very shaky time to release a new, expensive product. The cheaper the better. That's why price point wins, all other factors being equal. When you throw in all of MS's restrictive DRM bullshit, it's no contest. This is going to be a blowout win for Sony. Most people at best are only going to have the money to buy ONE of these systems...or rather, beg their equally poor parents to buy them one of these systems....and given the price difference and more powerful GPU with the PS4 without DRM, it's an easy choice.

@mjswooosh @Gravity_Slave

It's a depression, not recession. No Glass-Steagall, no recovery.

Derivatives still rules the roost, and Dodd-Frank codifies the Cyprus bail-in mechanism. You know where in order to keep derivatives afloat (wholly worthless and unneeded) they'll take your deposits.

So you can have Glass-Steagall, or you can have Dodd-Frank.

Glass-Steagall destroys derivatives. Dodd-Frank elevates them to #1 amongst everything. Bailouts, Bail-ins, and eventually straight monetization to save the British Empire's derivatives.

But then again since Bill Gates is an integral part of the British Empire, just desserts seem to be in order.

Xbox 360. 76 million boxes worldwide..48 million (willing to pay 50 bux a year) Xbox live subscribers..stellar exclusives..first to get dlc's..innovated gaming consoles with media entertainment that was fun to watch, but always remained secular to gaming..an awesome controller (if I gotta be a fanboy somewhere..its this department) the Xbox controller was built for gaming..the best..next to the dreamcast's. All this..and you guys (MS) fcuked it up!..I'm curious..why?..why kill off a very successful console?..stupidity?..greed?..or did they really believe the ONE would surpass the 360?..

For those who are still supporting this POS system; I normally don't wish bad things on people, but I sincerely hope you find out what it's like to lose a job, suddenly find yourself broke, and are forced to have internet disconnected. Then when you are alerady down, you suddenly realize that you can't even find joy in playing any games in your library. Games that you legally and honestly purchased, but have been suddenly denied to you because of corporate greed.

@Muteki_X I agree with you when you say the economy sucks right now and probably will for a while. However that has never stop Americans from living beyond their means. Quite honestly I don't think $100 is that much of a difference.

@Muteki_X That's another really good point. In a down economy, with many MILLIONS of people out of work or in danger of losing their jobs to off-shoring/down-sizing/in-sourcing/etc...we must consider there is a huge block of the population that may or may not be able to afford high-speed internet on a consistent, monthly basis. So, let's say you buy a XBone, purchase 5 or 10 new games...and then BAM your job gets sent to China and you have to cut back on your monthly expenses because the only replacement job you can find is working at Wal-Mart or McDonalds for minimum wage with no health insurance...so, high-speed internet is no longer affordable.

Well, you think, hey when I'm stressed out and not out pounding pavement looking for a new job I can kick back with my XBone and play some of the games I ALREADY PURCHASED, right? Wrong. Because of circumstances out of your control you would no longer have the ability to play the system and the games you just blew $1000 on. LOL

Now, when I think about it that way it pisses me off even more. Why the **** should MS be able to limit my ability to play games I already PAID FOR if my financial situation changes and I can no longer afford to be online month-to-month?

@sladakrobot And how well did those POS consoles sell at their inflated prices? The only one to go on to survive at higher than $500 price point was PS3, and that was only with a huge price cut and Sony's massive marketing efforts/PS2 success to keep driving it forward.

By itself, the $500 price point of the XBone would hurt sales. Combined with all the other anti-consumer problems, this thing's long term sales are toast after the launch hype dies down.

@mjswooosh huh? i thought we talking prices here and no MS vs Sony?!
The 3DO and the Philips didnt failed coz of the high price, they failed by making multimedia stuff noone liked at that time aswell as very bad games.
Neo Geo didnt failed because it was already considered by SNK as a niche product(and it wasnt meanted to be sold in 1st place but got so popular among hardcore gamers).
And its still alive and its playing perfect arcade games...if your moneybag can afford those games.

The xBone has been a complete dumpster fire, and it's not even out yet!!!

This is a level of ineptitude unheard of, even for micro$oft! How could a large company **** up this bad? Is it just greed? Or is there some type of corporate sabotage going on? The xBone is going to be a bigger failure than the Kin....and m$ wasted billions on the Kin.

Balmer is running m$ straight into the ground.

@enoslives7 Couldn't agree more. Bill needs to get back on the horse and leave the Foundation to wifey before there's nothing left to save. Forced sales from Win8 lap-top packins are only going to carry this company so far and allow them to subsidize so many ginormous fuckups like the One before the coffers run dry. The competitive landscape is changing quickly and MS's cash-cow (OS) isn't guaranteed much longer.

Ironically, I think this is why they rushed the One and are trying to force the DRM policies...they are searching for alternative revenue streams...the current buzzword inside MS is "subscription model". Some people there truly believe they can bully their way into millions of living rooms trojan horse style and then replace, but not really replace (er herp derp) everyone's cable box...by making you, uh, hook your cable box up to the One...and then pay Micrsoft a fee to watch TV on top of the fees you already pay to watch TV....

Brilliant.

@Muteki_X Given how quickly pundits and anti-Nintendo trolls have written off the Wii U, I don't think it'll take even a year before it's being widely talked about that the XBone is the biggest epic fail in gaming history. I'm not exaggerating. I do believe the launch numbers will be pretty solid from all the uniformed dude bros or soccer mom/football dads buying this thing for their kids. But after that I expect word of mouth to kill this turd quickly.

Man things must be pretty dull in the PS4 section right now if the fanboys need to come to the Xbox One section to talk about their "recent preorder" of the other console.
