The rumors were right. Today, Square Enix officially announced Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition, a remastered version of the 2012 action game from Canadian developer United Front Games. The game launches on October 10 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and includes 1080p resolution, 24 DLC packs, "tuned gameplay," and upgrades to the original's audio and visuals.

Square Enix says Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition will showcase a "shinier and grimier" Hong Kong, the game's setting. "The capabilities of today's hardware have truly brought the vibrant Hong Kong experience to life," the company said in a statement.

The DLC bundled in with Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition includes the substantial add-ons, Year of the Snake and Nightmare In North Point. Regarding resolution, Square Enix said the game runs in 1080p, but did not say if this applies to both Xbox One and PS4.

If you're not familiar with the story of Sleeping Dogs, you play as an undercover cop named Wei Shen who is tasked with hunting down the Hong Kong Triads gang in the seedy underworld of Hong Kong. The game has hand-to-hand combat, Hollywood-style shooting setpieces, and racing segments.

Square Enix also published a live-action trailer for Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition today, which you can watch above. The company has not shared any actual images or gameplay footage for the new version of the game yet. It is also unclear if United Front Games is working on Sleeping Dogs: Definitive Edition or if a separate studio is handling the port.

Earlier this year, Square Enix released Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition for Xbox One and PS4. United Front Games worked on the Xbox One version of that port.

The game is amazing so want to buy it again. The combat, the world, the atmosphere, story, characters, controls everything in this game is great. Much MUCH better than broken GTAIV trash.

Damn this game is gonna do terrible with sales. They definitely should have waited until December to release this. They put it in October with a slew of new next gen titles and if you are an xbox one gamer, even more.... Bad time to release a remastered mediocre game IMO...

This game was okay, had pretty good hand to hand combat, gunplay and cool slowmo action although avoiding the coppers were a nightmare if you didn't carry a gun but the point is I don't think this is worthy of a remastered version. I think remastered versions should be reserved for AAA titles like Last of Us, Uncharted and Halo. Tomb Raider was great and all which I truly enjoyed a second time but i'd be surprised if this rerelease would cash in as money as they'd might expect.

Comparing it to WD i must say in fact enjoyed SD VASTLY more ... So now i am thinking that if i was to play SD in that Definitive edition i would have simply wouldn't even bother with WD. Still i have completely thrashed SD , meaning i did EVERYTHING there was to be done in that game so i don't think i could easily be swayed to fork up the dough for this remaster :/
Still absolutely a YUMMY and MUST BUY choice for those of you that haven't touched the original SD yet :)

Jeez, SE really want money.

Suppose it's good consoles are getting a PC-like version, but this is getting a bit stupid.

Seriously, Square Enix is only second to CAPCOM, who always remake Resident Evil games with only some graphics tuning or even just a slight system compatibility implementation (still remember the XP "ports" of old REs?), in terms of remaking... Despite the fact SE did nothing more than CAPCOM for a long while, recently they are infecting their decease to Eidos Interactive which they just bought out of a huge luck, and then there came the graphically enhanced Tomb Raider. I admit that it was a good enhancement on PS4 but you no longer get that realistic facial animation available on the PC version, and the gameplay is still the same so I saw no reason re-buying it. Same for Sleeping Dogs I'd say, although the gameplay's tuned this time. It'd be really bad if they kept on remaking old games like this, and I bet someday Eidos would find a new parent company, or just die with SE.

These remaster build of SE games are great if you did sell off your PS3/360. But 3 things baffle me about SE, remaster of 720p games, and the overall industry in general.

Let's start with Square-Enix making remasters of PS2/3 games like Final Fantasy X-X2, Kingdom Hearts, and the Eidos made games. To me Square-Enix would be better served to remake the PS1/SNES JRPG games to the current generation of console hardware, via Cry Engine 3 or, Unreal Engine 4 and charge somewhere between $69.99-$99.99 for them like Final Fantasy IV,V,VI,VII, IX, the Chrono series, and Xenogears since monolith does not own that game.

Second the whole 720p to 1080p is just a waste of money to me unless it can do what current Sony and Samsung TVs do at 120Hz (120FPS) for the new consoles on those new 4k TVs since they the consoles do not do 4k res. Also why do only 1080p for the PC version SE? The PC can now do 4k and 240Hz and it does not warrant an upgrade to this edition of Sleeping Dogs or even Tomb Raider (both game I love to play on my PC) when they already have a Ultra Res Graphics pack via Free DLC download for steam? Kind of a confusing upgrade to me unless you only have a console to play on, or have to an 2-year old GPU and CPU like I do that needs to be upgraded.

Third and final point if this whole notion of remakes is going to be the new norm for "filler" between the holidays for AAA games (unless it's Sports games) is half baked and half done in my mind. I for one am a big fan of remakes, BUT only if they are 2 to 3 generations old in the console market i.e. NES, Genesis, SNES, PS1, Xbox 1 (the real one not the VCR) and PS2, since they are worth the AAA price of $49.99-$89.99 if they are WRPGS/JRPGS or even games like GTA III and MOH, and WWII COD via complete overhaul of it's graphics engines something like what MS is doing with Halo for the XB1 for those that do have a high end PC to run 4k graphics mods on those PC ports.

@TitanPolaris them saying its "1080p" doesnt mean anything on pc, you can run it at whatever resolution you want, or you can find a way to force whatever resolution you want.

I think these definitive additions are a good chance for games like this to reach parts of the audience that haven't yet experienced the game. Maybe a worthwhile upgrade for fans of the originals also.

I don't mind remasters on recently released games like The Last of Us but this game is 2 years old, it didn't sell well whe it first game out and personally I don't think the game is that great.

I hope Triad Wars doesn't turn out to be a pile of shit when it comes out. It's free to play so my bet is it's going to be pay to win. That already makes me lose some faith in it.

Devs wasting all this time on remakes. And to think all of this could have been avoided if the Xbox One and PS4 just had backwards compatibility.

It doesn't take an entire dev team to port a game to another console. Also wasting time on remakes, sounds familiar, it seems like Nintendo dragged wind waker out of it's coffin instead of committing resources to a newer Zelda game.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The difference is that they didn't use the Zelda team for it. They used a small, inexperienced team that has nothing to do with the Zelda games to make it. So it didn't waste any of their time. I'm fine with that since it can get a newer team experience making a great game, and it's not like they'd make a game that i'd buy anyway.

And also, that's only 1 remake on the Wii U. That's different than like 9 remakes on PS4. TLOU, GTA V, Tomb Raider, Metro: LL, Mass Effect trilogy, Flower, Journey, Beyond 2 Souls, and now this are all either remade, or are being remade on PS4.

I love Sony, and I'm really exited for all the great stuff coming to PS4, but they could have gotten things out much quicker if they wouldn't be hanging on to the last gen.

I really don't see how having more options hurts anybody. These games aren't being ported at the expense of new ones, that's just ridiculous. New games will come, the wii u was really dry it's first year as well. Also Sony has no say on what 3rd party devs work on, and if you don't want these games then don't buy them.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Wii U is a different situation. It was weak because Nintendo had never made HD games before, and had trouble adjusting to that big of hardware boost.

Remakes might not be taking away new games, but they do delay the development of games. Just take Naughty Dog as an example. They took the time to remake TLOU on PS4, and do the different options of 60fps and 30fps with better shadows.

What if they had a smaller, less experienced studio do that? Sure maybe it would have taken longer, but it would have been a better way. That small studio would have learned how to make a great game. Plus, Uncharted 4 has basically been delayed because of this.

Is it just me, or do you guys also feel like there are far too many remakes and not enough new interesting IPs?

And they ask why the gaming industry is on a downslide...

So I'm all for this.

And this whole idea of re-making games has now officially been beaten into the ground. Sleeping Dogs was a great game, but I don't have any desire to play it again. I don't care if it's the prettiest game ever released, I have already played it. Sure, Tomb Raider and Last of Us were good and served a purpose for being re-made (whether it was just timing like in Tomb Raider or giving 360 owners a chance to play Last of Us), but I'm wanting new games with new experiences, new stories, and new characters. Starting in September, I am looking at Destiny, Madden (only because I haven't played it in about ten years), Call of Duty, Alien Isolation, Far Cry 4, Assassins Creed, Sunset Drive, and Arkham Knight. And those are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. Why would I want to take time away from any of those to play a game that I played years ago? They needed to put this thing out about six months ago, then it would have been perfect.
