As some of you may have noticed, there is now a new WYSIWYG editor for GameSpot. We received a lot of positive feedback about this editor from FilmSpot so now we're rolling it out here.

A couple of major features that you should like, there are more, but that will be part of today's 'announcement':

1) There is a paste but for Word documents. This button will take the text you copied from Word and format it closer to the html rules we have. While its not perfect, its pretty darn good. Ctrl-V (for Windows users) works automatically in IE and okay in FireFox. Yes, no more FireFox warnings.

2) It works 'pretty good' for Safari and Opera. Not everything works in Safari and Opera, but I believe we've hidden the features that don't and got rid of the warning messages. If you have problems with these browsers, let us know in the tech support forum.

3) It fixes a lot of the malformed html errors. In other words, you should get fewer messages about your HTML not being well-formed.

4) Spell check works better. The spell check feature works faster and with better results.

5) Search and Replace. Name says it all. Personally, I love this feature as I'm always making the same typo over and over.

Like I said, there's more, but you'll have to wait for the official announcement later today to get the whole list.

Yes! I was waiting for this editor to be implemented here too. IMO, a lot cleaner and better than the old one. One question though, are we still going to see the HTML errors of the old editor or where this fixed in this new one?

Most of them should be fixed. There may still be a few, but with this editor its a lot easier to define what's okay and what's not. Or to reformat it *prior* to submitting.

I dont realy like this one a lot. The things I need to get done I could do just fine with the old one. Any way you can make it so we can pick which one we have? I realy like the old one better then this new one. The only thing I realy need the editor for is to do bulleted lists for the Emblems Guides, other than that I dont use it very much, which is why I would rather have the old one if you guys can some how let us pick which one we use.

I dont think I have ever used the WYSIWYG editor...ever, not even since the lithium days... Its just slower loading and IMO, its slower and more clunky to click buttons and go through GUI just to post a picture rather than typing some code.

Yup, for things like Links and Pictures, I find it faster to type the code out, Unless your doing a very big and long post, then I use the editor to save time. I cant see more than a hand full of us realy needing this new editor :|

If you scroll down the page in 'prefs' and go to 'Forums', the editor is moved.

i never use the editor anyway really...but with the new table functions and other things i should be able to use those codes to make a table appear w/o the WYSIWYG editor now anyway..therefore it's still an improvement for me anyway..nice work

Yes that is a bug now I just found as well :| I hope this and the PM bug gets fixed soon. Oh just to explain it better: The Editor moves when you srcoll up or down on the page. Well it does not Move, but stays in the same place on your sceen and the rest of the page moves.

My only real issue with this is that Ctrl+V brings up that paste from Word thing in Firefox, when I just want to plainly paste. Just a slight annoyance.

This is due to a security rule within Firefox. It used to give most users a warning dialog and wouldn't let them paste. :( Ctrl-Insert will bypass this popup.

I just noticed that the new editor has been added to the telegram page. While I've been using html pretty easily in the past, this will definately make sending informative telegrams easier.

Thanks, I have the same problem too. I hope it works for me... Except that, I believe the new advance editor will be very useful for me. :)

I get this same Pop UP over at FS as well and It is a mage pain when trying to make Emblems Guides :| It take a good aounmt of un needed time up.

Very nice. It also does everything I want it to just fine in Opera. Better than the last one, even, as features like smilies didn't work for Opera on the old one. I like some of the new features as well, particulalry the fullscreen mode, which could come in handy for writing long posts.

:?..it takes even longer to load now...i'm glad i dnt plan on using it...but now, in prefs, if you're not using the editor you get a rather small box and have to scroll up and down to see all of it...i much prefered it as a plain box, having to scroll up and down for such a simple sig really isn't a welcome change....

Here's one thing:

When I try to close the "Insert/edit Image" window before it actually loads, I get left with this:

This white rectangle blocks me to see anything written behind it. I could keep writing, but whatever is behind it, I can't see it (even if I write it later). The cursor blink is there and keeps moving as I write, but letter are hidden behind the rectangle. This can be very annoying, as you have to reload the page if you want to write a longer text.

If I let the window load completely, I can continue to write normally, obviously.

You should provide an option for people to use the older editor if they prefer.

After inserting a link once, the Update and Cancel buttons in the "Insert/edit link" dialog won't remove the dialog box upon subsequent uses of the dialog.

The editor is better in almost all ways except one - Firefox's spell checker can't be used in this one. I like the spell-as-you-type method of FF's spell checker better than having to get the editor to check spelling. (And you can't modify the dictionary on a WYSIWYG editor, either....)

Mine is having a bit longer of a load time.  It's not huge, but noticeable.

I also appreciate you adding "unlink" function as it is a lot easier for me than manually editing out the code, especially for certain projects I do.

The spell check is tons faster!  It does not always apear to be correcting my misspelled words, though.

I also like that when editing our HTML it opens in a WordPad type thing.  Much easier for me to fix everything.

Also, for tose wanting to know how to create a table, you can right click and just click "Inserts a new table".  You can then create it to your desired dimensions.  This is how it works in Internet Explorer, at least.

^there should also be a button in the editor for creating a new table for those of you using the advanced editor (yes, there's a standard and advanced editor now, just like filmspot)

thanks, anything of suitable size so i dnt have to scroll up and down so much when making a sig would be great (rather than a 2 line height, have it something like an 8-10 line height (it used to 10 i believe)); that seems to be the only spot with that little problem at least, the telegrams, articles, and basic posting all seems to be of a plentifully good size at least Mindy sent me a PM about it which i've replied too as well (with, tbh a rather poor explanation of what i meant...never been good at explaining things really tho :|), it seems as tho the PM system is playing up atm tho (not realising that i've read some of them, won't delete them, and probably some other problems too..), so i'm not sure if she's even received that >__>

I like it! I like it a lot!!! It is so much more compatable with Firefox than the old one and actually puts paragraphs inside the proper tags instead of breaks.

Thanks GameSpot!

Tables are not working properly.  The table gets removed and the text is the only thing left.

This has been reported in Tech Support already.

Just trying it now for the first time.   I have to say, it's loads better than the previous one, I've yet to decide if I'll use it or just the "non-WYSIWIG" one though....   My main problem with it is all the images require more time to load than just a box.   (Unavoidable until they're cached but still annoying...) and it seems to respond slower to my typing.

The only real problem I have with it is sorta lame... but it's a big deal to me. The horizontal bar thing that had its own icon is gone... or I can't find it on the toolbar anyway. I looked for about five minutes but I never found it. I use that horizontal bar A LOT so it's a pain for me to go without it. :P
