Are text clips working for everyone else?Cyrax-SektorYeah, they don't seem to be working for me either.

[QUOTE="alx222000"]What browser do you use? It's supposed to be a paragraph break, but in Firefox it would create a line break. That's an issue with the old editor, not the new one.Yep, Firefox. Though I never considered it to be a problem.I used to just push enter in the old version and it would make a line break. I would prefer it back how it was though, pushing enter twice when I need a new paragraph seems a little easier than pressing shift+enter when I just want a new line. But I'll survive now that I know how to do it.

can we have a way to toggle html?_Sam_I thought there's a little thing with the name 'HTML' somewhere on the editor already.
[QUOTE="Cyrax-Sektor"]When I try to link something, when I click 'Update', shouldn't the link window close?icytower38
I was going to post that, but you beat me to it. The odd thing is that sometimes it closes and sometimes I have to manually close it.

Not for me. That's how I moved my avas to my blog. :?Nice new feature! One problem i found tho: i can´t use the center tag anymore - i used that with the old html editor to center images in my blog posts.
So far i couldnt find a way to center images with the new editor - not with the wysiwyg nor the html editors...
Â
anyways, great job!!! keep it up! :DÂ
The new editor is not upto the mark I'll say............ atleast as far as posting updates go. I'm an officer of the GS Endorsed Age of Empires Union and as you guys know, its a high priority for us to get updates done neatly and quickly. IMO, the new editor has quite a few issues that need to be addressed:
An easy way to resolve most of these issues would be to let the users pick the old editor in the preferences tab :P................ But anyways, I'll be happy if the issues with the current one are resolved.

Under the forums section of the prefs you can go back the old version.
The only options are: standard (the new editor), advanced (new editor + more buttons) and none.......... which means no editor at all. It doesn't switch back to the old one.[QUOTE="icytower38"][QUOTE="mYTH_2k4"]An easy way to resolve most of these issues would be to let the users pick the old editor in the preferences tab :PmYTH_2k4

Nah......... there's no need to feel that way. Even I had to check that out cause a friend of mine had told me you can revert to the previous one. Thats when I realized there's no such option.
- Its SLOW: The flashier buttons and the new dialog boxes slow it down quite it bit, sometimes to the point that editing long messages becomes way to tedious. And I use a broadband............ think of the guys who use 56k!!
- ts too WIDE: As far as the editors go, I think you'll need to lay down the distinction between an Update (or Blog) editor and a post editor. Theold update editor had a width of 432 pixels - inline with the width of the updates sections of the unions - which made it very suitable for editing and posting updates cause it allowed the poster to have a clear perspective of what the update would look like once it was posted. The new one has a width of about 700 pixels which makes it completely unsuitable for updates. This REALLY needs to be addressed.
- Buggy Dialogs: The dialog boxes are glitchy. They don't aways auto close after performng their function (inserting a lik/picture etc). Sometimes the boxes just plain freeze up for no apparent reason. This really makes the process that more tedious.
- HTML Conversion: There are still quite a few errors with the html conversion and error detection. When I tried posting an update a couple of days ago, it detected an error with the html. I toggled to the html source and found the 'span' and 'class' id's with an image I'd inserted. When I removed them, the update was posted perfectly. If the editor doesn't recognize the id's why does it insert them in the first place?? And if an id is not recognized, it should be deleted automatically without bothering the user.
- More on HTML Errors: Sometimes, there simply isn't ANY error with the HTML code and the editor still doesn't make a post!! Earlier it used to atleast list the erroneous tags/ids which made it a bit easier to edit the html, but now even thats been suppressed.

Please GameSpot administrators listen. The Age of Empires Union is struggling with our updates because of the editor, and I'm sure a lot of other unions areÂ
I don't like the new one for Quick reply... is there a way to turn this off... it is very annoying and keeps making it jump to the top of the page as well instead of staying on the last message read. Is there a way to turn this off because I do not like it at all:|double_deckerwell i dnt get that anyway as my editor is disabled altogether, but i know that a few other ppl are disliking that as well..the whole point of quick post was to speed up posting when the editor wasn't necessary wasn't it...so by adding the editor into doesn't that kinda defeat the point of it?

I find it quite frustrating.
It seems like it doesn't like to properly break up text by using simple spaces but rather it uses non-breaking space characters. What results are lines of text that don't wrap around the page but instead simply continue on forcing the user to have to scroll the page horizontally.
^ case and point.
Since I don't want people to have to scroll just to read my 2 cents, I'll either force soft returns with breaks, or actually go into the HTML and replace each nbsp with a real space. I left them in this one as an example.
It appears that it's only an issue when the Javascript starts writing its own tags, as the problem won't occur unless I start a new paragraph or add an apostrophe.
I'm using Opera v.9 Â

I agree with all of the above. Especially in regards to the editor being too wide, that is a very frustrating issue.
Are GameSpot staff looking at this thread anymore? It seems they've moved on to the new "My Profile" module without addressing the issues listed here.
If the issues listed here ARE being addressed, or have at least been read, could someone please indicate as such?
Thanks!

I agree, it would appear that the new profile design & the rubics search thing seam to have taken presidence (sp?) over this.
Speaking of tables .... tonight I tried inserting a table and after clicking the "Update" button (in the HTML editor window) the table completely disappeared. Any ideas on what's cauisng this, and is it going to be fixed?
I should clarify that I was using the WYSIWYG editor in the forums section of my Prefs.
Thanks.
I notice this has been unstickied now, however the tables feature is still not working.
This is what I get After trying to create a tableusing the editorÂ
This is a feature that would be greatly helpfull in many unions and this is something that needs to be addressed.
Yep, unstickied and unaddressed.
There are a LOT of issues with the WYSiWYG editor that have gone unresolved. The greatest, in my opinion, being that it is NOT a WYSiWYG editor by any stretch! You see, WYSiWYG stands for "What You See is What You Get". And I think we can all agree that what we see is NOT what we get with this editor. At all. Not even close.
Breaks and paragraphs don't work properly, tables don't work properly. And most importantly, the HTML is formatted to be far wider than the actual post will end up being (430px), so what you're seeing as you edit is VASTLY different from the end product. I dunno about other folks here, but I have to submit and re-edit my post no less than 8 to 10 times until it looks the way I want it. That's not convenient. That's not even slightly irritating. It is highly frustrating!
Please GameSpot. Would you let us know if you ever intend on looking into this stuff? Over 50% of the folks in this poll indicated they weren't truly happy with the switch.
What do you intend to do about it?
High-five on this new editor! Compared to the old, clumsy one, it's gold!GeorgeTopouria
I won't debate there are elements to the new editor that are much better than the old. For example, the justification buttons now work properly, links remember the options you chose in the settings and actually use them (like the target attribute, for example).
But regardless of all those good things, there are still a lot of bad. Honestly, because of the sheer pain in the butt it is to format a post properly with the new editor, I'd still be happier with the old one.

I started a seperate thread about the table not working issue. It has been almost three weeks and still no admi has ever replied.Â
1. Backspace is essentially broken. The editor lags severely when backspace is pressed, resulting in unwanted deletions. Forget about holding the backspace key down.
2. Auto double space. I HATE THAT!
3. Press enter twice and backspace once. An extra space is created and you have to backspace once more to get to the beginning of the line.
4. It's slow, as is the quick reply editor. Watch the CPU usage in Task Manager, often 80 - 100% when composing a message.
The only major beef I have with it right now is that when you want to preview a blog post, the margins it uses for the preview aren't the same as they will be when the blog actually goes up. This is frustrating because when you're trying to properly place aligned images or format text in a certain way, you can't really preview what it will actually look like. Currently the preview option is really only useful for HTML error-checking, but not formatting.
I end up re-editing a post a few times over because I can't actually see how it will look on the page until it's submitted.
My two cents. Thanks!CMJR
