NIS is now taking reservations for pre-orders (yes you have to reserve your pre-order) for Ar Tonelico. If you reserve and then pre-order you'll get an art book with it. Seeing how this game would probably already be a niche game (as are most games published by NIS America), plus it's being released on PS2 after the Next-Gen war is in full swing, it will probably become rare pretty quickly. If you are interested you can reserve your pre-order here.

Wow, thank you very much, I just got mine.  That's worthy of a post for itself on the main page so no-one misses out on it.

The Red Star has been rated by the ESRB and now has a release date of January 15, for those of you with interest.  Here is a nutshell of it's history from Wikipedia:

The rights to the Red Star game, an arcade-style beat-em-up reminiscent of Cannon Spike, have been picked up by XS Games, with an expected release on the PS2 in early October 2006. Work on the originally intended Xbox version had been more or less completed, but the game was never published due to Acclaim's bankruptcy. While the Xbox version will most likely never see a commercial release, the game itself has been found on some peer-to-peer file-sharing networks.

I'd like to nominate Touch Detective (DS) as a brand new buried treasure. The storyline is a bit tough to follow, but as an experience it is a lot of fun.

Well, it's probably already too late if you don't have it pre-ordered but the World of Warcraft: Burning Crusade Collector's Edition is already fetching $150-$200 on ebay. I pre-ordered mine months ago (as soon as I could make a preorder) and when I went back a few weeks later to preorder another copy (or two) they were already filled. Gamestop/EB Games outlets are doing the whole midnight launch. Since I have it pre-ordered they called me today to invite me to the midnight bash (I feel so special!).

Rule of Rose came out in Novemeber I think and is still under the radar. It might not be brand new but it is relatively new. I just found out about Ar tonelicoâ„¢: Melody of Elemia and that completely depresses me that I am too late to get it reserved.
:(

Maybe I can pick it up from someone on ebay.

I saw Family Feud pop up at Best Buy recently for PS2 and GBA and I instantly thought of this thread since I hadn't heard anything of it before.  Then I thought, "Hey, this may be considered 'buried', but it probably ain't 'treasure'!".  So aspro, don't bother adding it to the main post ... unless you think it may be "treasure".  :P  I just wanted to comment on it.

That's a bummer, I posted about it earlier in this thread and we even had an article on it on the front page. You can still preorder it from Gamestop and get the art book if you want, it's the same as the NIS preorder minus the soundtrack.

Hey thanks alot.... I registered with NIS and have not received the reservation code. I really hate missing out on these types of games particularly from this company. They almost always release games in limited supply... I am also a collector's edition maniac so going without the sound track is going to hurt a little. But, I suppose I will have to learn to live with the disappointment.

Thanks Duncan for the help I will reserve it now.

You could always call them: (714) 456-1763. Just tell them you want to preorder and get the soundtrack. Worst case is they'll say no, which still leaves you with the Gamestop preorder. Best case is you get in on their preorder and get the soundtrack.

Can I also suggest The Rub Rabbits (DS), which is an entertaining sequel to Sega's launch game Feel the Magic: XX/XY?

I think New Super Mario Bros. should be on that list for sure..
Another possibility might be Mario Kart DS mostly for the addition of the classic tracks.

I have a hard time believing either of those games are hidden/buried treasure. Sure, they are great games, but this thread is for games that are easily overlooked or missed-out-on.

I do, too.  Any modern game with Mario in the title is definitely above the radar.

One of the DS titles that I think is largely overlooked and HTF is Point Blank DS, where you use stylus taps like the Guncon.  I've only seen one copy, which I plan to acquire quite soon.

Your right, oh well. Can't say I didn't try, even though it wasn't that smart now that I think about ti.

Though I personally wouldn't put Yoshi's Island DS under buried treasure either, but maybe I'm just a bigger Yoshi fan then most.

While it is a well known recently released title for the DS, I'd say that Hotel Dusk: Room 215 will still become a buried treasure. At the store I picked it up at, there were only 2 copies there and that is the same thing I have been hearing regarding many stores. I think it is safe to say it is a good candidate for the list.

Upcoming treasure? I wasn't sure where to put this, but figured that this place would be all kinds of happy to hear about it.

That is a game I'd so love to get, but I'm not so sure about buying a PSP for it. I'm just not into the idea of buying another system. I'm already going to be getting a PS3 next weekend.

Yeah, I didn't really mean to imply it was luck.  I'm just sayin' I don't think I'll be getting one for a long time.... so it'd be kinda nice to be in your shoes - playing PS3.  At home.  Not at the Best Buy.  Like me. :P

It seems that Warpath, a game on the Xbox that I recently purchased is a little-owned title (44 users).  I hadn't heard of it prior to getting it.

Isn't that kinda like an Unreal Tournament game exclusive to the Xbox? I've seen it at Fry's for really cheap and considered getting it but I don't know much about it.

I don't know much about it, though it uses the Havok engine (according to the box), so it's definitely not an UT game.  It looks like a generic shooter, and was published by Groove Games.

Ultimate Ghosts 'n Goblins for the PSP will likely go down as an over looked (and insanely difficult) classic for the PSP. Another over looked game is Sega Genesis Collection for the PSP and PS2. It sold a pitiful 8,000 copies combined.

Mine shipped as well, scheduled to arive Friday. I hope this game doesn't have the audio/crashing problems that Atelier Iris did. The review doesn't mention it and It sounds like the reviewer played the entire game, so I'm hopeful.

So it's single-player? Hmm, it was pretty cheap at Fry's maybe I'll grab it. They had Phantasy Star I & II for Xbox really cheap as well but I can bring myself to get it as it is totally MP and no single player (at least as far as I know). I was thinking Warpath was the same. I have a real hard time buying games that have no single player aspect to them.

Updated.  I now include a  icon next to recently added games to make it easier to find what has been added.  Happy shopping, and thanks to those who have made suggestions, all of the games I have bought from Buried Treasure have been just that.

A couple games that I've noticed can be a ***** to find are Frequency for the PS2 and Cubivore: Survival of the Fittest for the GC.

When Jam Sessions (DS) comes out in North America in June it is sure to be a buried treasure. I have had the equivalent Japanese version on my wish list for awhile now, known as Hiite Utaeru DS Guitar M-06. It is a guitar simulator, but not in the same way as Guitar Hero. The localized version will be superior because it will have an added feature of being able to record and save your compositions.
