For the first time in nearly three and a half years, the Formula One Passion Union runs a game night!

To celebrate the launch of F1 2010, the new game by CodeMasters, there will be a game night for members of the union to race online to see who truly is the best of the best!

If you wish to participate, please say so in this thread, along with when you would be available to take part so that a date and time can be announced in the near future.

Obviously as this is the PS3 Game Night, it's kip who is in control here, so he'll be the one to negotiate a time with, but currently the 360 one is looking at a very early-ish start.

It really depends what time and date it'll be.

So it's a no from me for now.

In common with most of the posters here I would like some time to get used to the game first - although I have to say waiting untill 100% completion seems a bit extreme especially since said completion level will include some on-lline racing anyway!!!!! dabest2500 is obviously running scared :D :lol:

Most nights would be ok as long as it isn't too short notice - during the day at the weekend is also possible (UK time I'm talking about)

I don't usuallly do online because of the dirtiness.
So, I hope you guys race clean :P

I can't play on Mondays and Wednesdays (don't ask me, ask my mum).

Have to admit my gaming is probably at least 90% single player off-line and 10% on-line but with a game like this there are two reasons to play on-line:

1. Trophies :lol:
2. Playing with people you "know" who share a common love for the sport :D

Yea definetly, and as we are all keen lovers of F1 I think we all know whats reasonable in playing dirty and whats clean racing, accidents are bound to happen, we're racers lol, But lets not play dirty, Any dirty playing will result in a 1 game night ban, and if this keeps happening, will continue until 3 game night ban and if further persistance is happening, full time ban.

I'm not for one second saying people are gonna do it, but I wanna lay down the law with this incase anyone does get any bright ideas lol

I'll do my best to set up a night in say early-mid october, this way we've all had some experience with the game :)

How about cutting chicanes etc. rules for those? Or will the game already have online rules for this?

Presumably the game will come with punishments for that.

What if more people want to play than number of people able to play at one time?

To be honest I do not think there is any particular need to ban people from games nights, all we need to do is to set the game up so the rules come into play so that for example if you cut a corner the game penalises you automatically so you drop the place you illigally gained or makes you visit the pits to enforce a penalty for getting rough with other drivers or other infractions.

As competative as we all can get, I don't think there will be any problems to be fair.OmenIWF

I think the banning was for people that are sore losers, for example:

Player 1 overtakes Player 2
Player 2 waits for Player 1 to come round again then crashes Player 1 into retirement.

Or am I just thinking too much about it? :P

haha, I do like your Idea Omen, I will impiment that for when we do it, A points system sounds like fun, we can run a series of game nights over the winter season of F1, and say every other weekend if we can all make it, host a race on a different circuit and such, I'm happy to do that and keep the points tallied up for that :)kipi19

Also, how long will the race be?

If it's a full length race I can't participate as I'm only allowed on for 1 hour.

I hope the penalties aren't flawed like in Gran Turismo 5 Prologue where if the AI hit you, you would get the penalty no matter what, or if the AI hit you off the circuit causing you to cut the corner, you would be penalised.

I'll probably run 8-12 lap races, maybe do one or two of those in an evening, makes for an interesting night, not too long, or too short, Pit stops, collisions and all the rules will be on :)

But for the first races, I'll try and say do 30% race distance with pit stops so everyone can get a good feel for the game on a game night and we won't take points for it, Just something where we can all enjoy playing online :)

Won't be as realistic pit stopping in a 30% race but I guess there'll be a "scaled" option just like in F1 Championship Edition.

Yea that does sound like fun a full season of racing, but I agree we should have some warm up races and our own winter testing season as it were :P

I mean, I'll discuss with Redders what we can do in our areas of this and see what we can do.

I like the idea, but whether it would actually work, and it was said before, making sure everyone CAN take part in it :)

The main problem is the different time zones people are in, it's ok with the UK/Europe as only a hour time difference but when you get to the United States/Canada and Europe your talking 5-8 hours time difference which needs to be taken into account.

Speaking from experience i found the best way is to find a certain time each week that everyone can normally do and then nominate someone to regularly host the game. This way if everyone has agreed to the time and day of the week before hand then you can't complain if you can't make it.

The problem with trying to organise it on the fly is finding 19 one hour sessions that everyone can do is pretty difficult and you find people will feel hard done by if races are done when they can't make it, or you find the season will end up taking too long and people will lose interest.

Anyway that's may 2 cents on the subject.

Okay, I live in the UK.

If we race on Weekends, I'll be on the PS3 for 1 hour 20 minutes.

With DaBest being limited to the time he can get online, would it be best if we actually waited till release and worked out how long it'd take to set the race up/qualify/race using 30% race distance, just to make sure he'd have enough time to be able to complete everything so he doesnt miss out?

Or what if we do qualifying on Saturday and the Race on Sunday, or is this not possible?dabest2500
