another case of something which is not and was never intended to be racist that gets turned into something racist by an overly pc media. adam sessler needs to remove his head from his ass.
So Sessler is an overly PC sissy as well? Go change your tampon, Adam. The only people who think RE5 is racist, are themselves, the actual racists.Iszk
Exactly. These days it's such a knee jerk reaction to label something or someone racist just because it's not PC.
What does he want? The game is based in Africa. Why wouldn't the zombies be african? Would he prefer that Capcom depict the continent of Africa as populated by asians and caucasians? Make all the zombies white despite it occuring in Africa?
I don't think that Capcom is trying to depict africans as less than human. The Resident Evil series has taken place in many locations and the zombies or enemies generally follow the characteristics of the indigenous population of those areas. Maybe Sessler needs to learn geography and demographics.
RE4 took place in Europe. Everyone looked and sounded European. RE5 is doing the exact same thing. Why should it be any different this time?

This is a little off topic, but as a Spanish speaker, I am able to decipher what your enemies say, it was helpful in the game ("Behind you, imbecile!").

So if someone takes artful nudes of prepubescent children with no intention of it being child pornography, does it make wrong that such images would make people uncomfortable because they could be perceived as child pornography just because vocal fans of photography say it is?
There's nothing racist about RE5. The only people who think RE5 is racist are people who think that blacks are entitlted to preferental treatment in the media so that they can be protected from any negative portrayal no matter how insignificant. In other words, the people calling this game racist are themselves racists (you don't have to attack another race to be a racist, you just have to advocate prejudicial treatment for a race(s)).gameguy6700

I'd prefer if we could take control of an African and mow down row after row of white cop zombies. It could take place in West Virginia and if anyone complains I would just say shut up...its West Virginia...all the cops are white.GrindingAxe
Save for the part about West Virgina and the cops that describes the entire RE series up until RE5. Although I don't think the series ever states what state Racoon City is in so actually you just more or less described RE2 (since the vast majority of the zombies you kill in that game are white cops in a rural suburban town).

Yeah I agree or simply putting people into groups based on their superficial skin color/looks is being racist itself. the only race on this planet is the human race in my philosophy.
What ticked me off was N'Gai Croal's rant on how there's a history behind this or that on this interview. He kinda just seems to put drag his race into the issue rather than addressing it in their perspective.

theres a large leap between digital images of the killing a person who happens to be black and digital images of the killing a person because they are black in terms of racism.

Wow, sessler's actually a pretty smart guy.
Seriously, what is the point of having a game where a white man goes to the poorest parts of africa and starts mowing down a bunch of black people?
This sounds more like "Birth of a Nation" the video game, then RE.

What's the point having a game with a living, breathing world where you can roam and kill anyone you please...than again, GTAIV did sell well. It's a shame people are holding RE5 accountable when it hasn't even been released.

there are A LOT of parts of africa with white people... there really seems to be no serious reason why this should take place in that part of africa, other than for banal entertainment.
how about this? have it take place in a concentration camp during the holocaust, and the jews are the zombies.
would that offend you? it sure as hell should.
black hawk down, i loved. it was not offensive because there was a real story that had to be told. re5 is just something a japanese company made up because they thought it be fun to kill a bunch of diseased indigenous people.

Birth of a Nation was a film specifically made to push an agenda and spread misinformation about the KKK, essentially portraying a violent and destructive organization as heroic while simultaneously vilifying African Americans. Like Triumph of the Will, it's a technical achievement housed in an offensive narrative and comparing Resident Evil 5 to Birth of a Nation is one of the more ridiculous and insipid things I've read in some time.
Perhaps you think you're being profound or immensely enlightened by making this baseless comparison but you really have no idea what you are talking about. Birth of a Nation was specifically produced to impugn and slander African Americans where by sharp contrast RE5 is guilty of nothing more nefarious than being set in Africa, where the vast majority of the population is (gasp) black. As others have pointed out, RE4 was set in Europe but I guess blowing away white people is okay, yes?
I'm sorry, but I find your tenuous logic and condemnation of this game far more offensive than it's setting.

you are likening a concentration camp to a random place in africa? get real. you are just a controversy monger. you ever think that umbrella would want to conduct its shady activity in an out of the way place? there is nothing offensive here. yeah there are whites in africa but what is the predominant race of people? pathetic grasping.
This thread explains why more games are not set in regions outside of JP, North Ameria and Europe. The publishers make safe choices for the most part to avoid the immaturity of gamers and the general publics view of gaming.
This thread kind of proves their actions as being correct.
obviously birth of a nation had a more insidious production. re5 is nowhere near as bad. but i do agree with sessler that it is in poor taste. right now, im not condemning anything, but thats only because i agree that the poor taste is incidental and not intentional. they werent trying to be offensive, and if the game were being sold to a perfect society with no history of horrific violence and injustice towards blacks i wouldnt give it a second thought, much like many of you dont. can i live in your magical societies? cuz americas nowhere near as progressive.

honestly? no one needs to tiptoe around because blacks were treated poorly at some points in history. this type of thinking is pathetic. the setting is not in poor taste. its an interesting place to set a game that at least i have not come across yet. go back to your bubble where you avoid doing anything compelling for fear of huwting someones' feewings. the rest of the adults will be playing the game.

Your arrogance is annoying and completely unnecessary and your pedestrian prose reeks of pseudo-intellectualism.
You think you have achieved profundity here but you haven't. There is nothing even remotely intellectual contained in those vacuous arguments you keep posting, even when you try to spice them up with college words. Worse, you've taken to insulting people who rightly reject your nonsense because they see how thin and flimsy your points and counterpoints actually are.
The Holocaust? Seriously?
Again, your nonsense is much more offensive than RE5 being set in Africa.

His personal attack directed towards you merely confirms this.
This is just another instance of people looking for racism where there is none.
RACIST - Chris goes to Africa to kill black people because he hates black people; perhaps even theres a gameplay feature where Chris can convince other whites to join his evil agenda.
NOT RACIST - Chris goes to investigate a viral outbreak, just as he has done in every other Resident Evil ever made.
I don't know jack about the RE5 storyline, but I'm pretty sure Capcom is sticking with the same formula as always. I'm also pretty sure Adam Sessler had no problem killing the Spanish in RE4 or the whites in all the original RE games. So that means he's uncomfortable purely because these people have dark skin. He thinks that we should treat these people differently just because they have black skin... Hmmm

I agree with you totally. People need to stop trying so hard to not offend and stop treating different races of people differently, because they think they have some obligation to. All this just further promotes the gap between races when there really isn't any. Everyone should be treated the same way.

G4 died a long time ago. It used to be good back when it was called techtv. G4 is like the MTV of video games IMO. And kudos to you for applying common sense, a commodity that seems to be in short supply these days. I think we have enough problems in this world without the need to manufacture them.
Funny to see Adam act all mature. But I don't understand this "uncomfortable" feeling some people get. A white person is shooting down hordes of black people. Yes but he isn't doing this out of hatred for blacks is he? It just so happens that wherever he is in Africa that city or nation has mostly black people living there. It's like going to Russia you have mostly white civilians because that is just the way it is.
I don't see RE5 as racist or somehow negative to a race issue.

In the RE plotline the progenitor virus (the prototype for the T-virus) was a modified ebola virus. Where do you most commonly find ebola? In Africa. Hence the reason the developers talk about "taking the series back to where it all began" in interviews (which is also in reference to the metaphorical aspect of the setting; Africa is where humans are believed to have originated). This game is going to be an origins story so it makes sense that they're putting it in Africa. If they stuck it in, say, Thailand it wouldn't make any sense and would require a jarring rewrite of part of the series's lore.
Also, as far as I know the only parts of Africa with substantial white populations are South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe. That said whites are still quite the minority in all of those countries, 9.2%, 5%, and 5.5% (at its peak) respectively. That's hardly what I would call "a lot". Indeed, South Africa has the largest white population on the continent so I think we can safely say that there are, contrary to what you want to believe, not a lot of areas in Africa with white people.

You're talking about two completely different subjects. Nude images of children are never acceptable, its illegal, and those people will be uncomfortable seeing any children naked. Its not a case where they just have a problem with naked black kids.
If Adam were saying that he is uncomfortable killing people in videogames, I could respect that opinion much more. Instead he's trying to make exceptions and force something into an issue of racism when it isn't. That type of thinking and false whistle blowing is incredibly destructive to race relations.
I'm starting to wonder, as a black man, should I feel like I'm committing a hate crime everytime I kill a white person in a videogame?

I enjoy the odd horror movie/videogame but I've never come away from one thinking 'That was an exquisitely tasteful production'.
As for your notion that because we have been mistreated in the past, blacks should be excluded from certain parts... I suppose you and Sessler's intentions are 'nobler' but you two and the most vehement racists have the same goals.
