I just got around to ordering my copy of the game today and I thought it was time to start up an official thread for this game.

Famitsu gave the game a 37 out of 40.  Not bad!

I'm a sucker for sandbox games, and I can't wait for it to come out.

I'm posting this in two chunks since I always get HTML errors.
Feel free to contribute! :)

I was initially excited but dropped off. I watched the E3 demo, seen some screens, know its developed by the POP team. That's about it. I just hope that the fighting isn't as godawful as POP. At the moment I'm up in the air about it, even if it reviews well. There's an awful lot of grey in it.

Its coming out in a bad week for me, I probably will just rent it. I hope it turns out to be excellent but this is one game that I have no clue whatthe review scores will be like. dvader654

Same, my friend is buying this game and he lives next door (almost literally), so this guy is a definite pass for me...Especially because I'm still kind of skeptic about its gameplay, the presentation looks nearly peerless, (however).

Yeah I saw your post in the "Assassin's Creed skeptics thread" I made, I was really suprised that I didn't get flamed more than I did, if at all...I was actually kind of dissappointed, as I was in an argumentative mode that day.

Here are the launch centers from IGN and Gamespot.

IGN

Gamespot

This video details the controversial combat in the game, personally I think it looks awesome.

Combat

Digi-Matrix got his hands on the game and Jade Raymond a while back.

"BOTTOM-LINE: Definitely distinct feel to other games. It's not Prince of Persia in a sandbox game. It's not a hack-and-slash game. It's nothing like other sandbox games. I just can't compare it to other games. Maybe this is why it took many people to get to grips with the game. They all played only 4-10 minutes, and came off very frustrated because they just "faffed" about. Kudos to me for actually achieveing what my mental tasks were in this game . I came away feeling very good with myself. Satisfying 4 minutes. I should try BUTTON MASHING sometimes"

Here is my face photoshopped onto Jade's head.

Dear God, let it end!

You know that scene from Terminator 2? Where the T-1000 is like totally mashing Arnie's face off with an iron girder before impaling him with a steel rod? That's what this season is doing to my wallet. Next week is AC and Mario Galaxy, and the week after is Mass Effect and Uncharted. And those are just the sure buys. There are always a few that sneak under the radar and end up being awesome.

On topic, AC is looking really good. I'm hoping it lives up to the hype and doesn't sour me forever on Jade Raymond.

Pop wasn't god aweful... I wouldn't even use the word aweful to describe it in anyway.. pop got high reviews and it was only kicked out of the 9 range because of repetitveness. In terms of gameplay and graphics pop owns :( pop and dmc games were among the few games who made it from 2D to 3D without sacrificing the essences and core of the game-play.

Rrag should be the "offical game thread" starter :P anyways I'll wait for more reviews before I buy anything.

I actually thought the third game (was it The Two Thrones?) was awesome. I actually liked it better than the first game.

I hated the 'baditude' of Warrior Within, but it was still fun to play.  I kinda miss the first PoP, I might have to hunt it down when all of the holiday madness is over.

I could care less about the prince's attitude. Dhaka chases>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> his attitude. pop games were always about gameplay imo.

I just meant the combat in Prince of persia. I abhore it. I was semi-enjoying the two thrones before I got stuck in this boss battle between twin monsters with axes after this chariot ride. The combat tries to do the whole Z-targeting thing, but feels like such a mess, like a rubber band is swinging you one way or the other. It's so random and finnicky. Not satisfying and measured like Zelda for instance. They trap you in sections with several annoying enemies, desperate to hit you in the back whilst you're trying to beat someone else, it's just annoying. I'd prefer it if they just completely nixed the combat in those games.

All I know is...I want dibs on DMC4 Offical Thread ^_^ *Beat You Boys to the Gun!!!* Funny enough I already have a good chuck of it done since I did one on other forum hehe.

lol...Anyways. I have high hopes for this game. First off...Action/Adventure from one of the few teams that made a sucess quality 3D one. But I'm not buying it right away. Sorry to say just a horrible release time for it. COD4 this week...and Mass Effect in 2weeks. All I know is, I pray the game industry for once would get intelligent and plan out these releases with each other like the movie studios do. Its just in 2weeks of time you have...COD4, Mario Galaxy, Uncharted, Mass Effect, and Assassin's Creed all out. I atleast have to thank MS for launching Halo 3 before all of this. Definitely should give all these games now more of a fighting chance for good sales...but still way too close together!!!

Yeah, I would love to do it but I still have no 360 so I think I should let someone that can play the game do it, plus I did Halo 3 already. It better be nice,it will bethe best game besides Mario and Uncharted(I hope) this year.

I don't want to be the one either... I've got two hype threads I'm trying to run well, and one that I'm sorta half-assing (COD4).  Someone needs to step up!  I also stealthily fixed your post.

New Review to go along witih Famitsu's 37/40, GameInformer gives the game a 9.5/10: Summary Below

Concept: Journey across the medieval Holy Land as a death-dealing assassin in one of the most innovative game releases in recent years

Graphics: Remarkable visuals transport you to the past and immerse you in the action

Sound: From music to voice work to ambient sound effects, the aural component only deepens the involvement

Playability: An entirely new approach to controls isa tremendous success- as intuitive as it is functional

Entertainment: A lengthy game with lots of suprises: Too much repetition is the only flaw in what is otherwise a must-play experience

Replay: High

And the CVG offers a near finished hands on preview

Sweet! I seriously can't wait for this game. I'm happy to see that there are 60 secondary assassinations along with the hidden items. I know I am going to explore the crap out of this game.

Yep...if there's 60 secondary assassinations then it'll probably be a damn good and long game with all the exploring too.

Skip, a member of gaf and employee of 1up, replied to the GI review thread and said he was shocked at the score GI gave this game.

He says:

I think it'd be okay to say this: it's going to be a very polarizing game. some are going to love it, others...aren't. a lot of what the GI guy dismissed as small problems will be viewed as bigger ones by other people.

it won't be a "they're right, they're wrong" thing (though I'm sure it will be here), just a difference in opinion -- that's bigger than most
.

Another member that played the game said to check the mediareation to Crackdown, it will be similar to how this game will be.

dvader654

I was just reading the same stuff.  It will be interesting to watch the reviews come in for this one.  I know I will buy it either way, because the game looks fun to me, but I'd like to know what some of the harsher criticisms for it are.

The biggest problems that I believe some reviewers will cite are:

1. The controls make it so you feel too disconnected with character's actions/movements, and thus the game feels partially like an interactive movie

2. The gameplay is repetitive

3. The plot seems to come out of left field

I 100% agree killing those was rather frustrating XD It's bacause bossfights were bugged in this game. This game is the bug game, each time a bug has to kill it for you. I couldn't even beat pop2 because of the gate bug. Here's a tip:Try to save as much sand power as you can because you'll need all of them in the battle. Don't waste them all on the carrige level. It's easy to knock of the bad guy once his sword is stuck.

A fine list.

SMG is a must buy for obvious reasons but the one I'm really wondering about is Kane and Lynch. What is this game going to play like? Most of the video I've seen has been CG stuff.

Any idea?

OXM gave it an 8.0 stating that everything about the game works well and is an intense game but it dosent breach the AAA barrier because its not as polished as it could be, graphics are good but not awe inspiring...etc. But a lot of the fun of this game is gonna come from the action and how much you like the whole bank robber thing I think. They talk about coming out of a bankheist and shooting your way through thousands of cops to get to your getaway vehicle, taking hostages and how the two characters are the most badass and evil characters they have played in a game and not to play this game if you are the faint of heart. Im sold :D Plus the online sounds really, really awesome to me. Not sure if you've read up on it yet but you and a team of other players over live (or PSN) rob a bank and the goal is to get the most cash while the feds try to kill you all, you can work together to kill the feds or turn on each other to get the most cash... sounds like its gonna be a lot of fun actually and different from your standard run n gun deathmatch.

That actually sounds pretty interesting. Even if I don't buy it immediately (my backlog is getting insane) I'll probably nab it later during the post-holiday lull.

Thanks for the information.

I saw the combat video and i don't understand why this would be a buy/not buy factor for most people. It looks well enough, and basically every other aspect of the game make it a must buy.

Just came back from a local Ubi event, and had another go at it as well as another demo version of Haze. Yes, here in Greece we still haven't got our review copies even though the game is out next week. Dunno what Ubi is doing really. Anyway, I'm glad they went for something different and didn't do another Prince. It's a very clever game and the mechanics are fantastically fluid, even if a bit too context-sensitive for true skill to make a difference. I just hope it offers more variety in it's situations the deeper you get into the game. I also would like to see some more skill involved, but that's not really a valid complaint, since Prince suffered from this as well, despite it being a great game. And anyway, the game really seems to reward the player that explores and tries out stuff.

Every game-play screen looks like a scene to me. I hope it's like that once we play the game.

Reports say that Assassin's Creed for the 360 has been delayed a week, PS3 version still hits next week. Not confirmed but if true, HA now you guys get to see what its like to have a multiplatform game dealyed!! :Pdvader654

It is sooo not happening, but if it did.... The madness that would ensue!  Hilarity and hijinx.  Good thing I'm getting the PS3 version.

Damn this game is looking stunning. It looks like I'll have to put this on my to buy sooner rather then later list. I was going to either hold off on getting this game or just rent it but I think I'll be grabbing it as soon as I can.
