Seems almost every game I play on COD4 there's a camper and someone complaining about him. With all the ridicule for camping, why would someone go on camping? Is it because they believe there's security behind cover? Is it possible that there's less chance of gettin' dropped with only ur head exposed verses your whole body? Are they afraid they'll meet face to face with the enemy and have a lesser chance for survival? Doesn't it say somewhere you can't camp! What possible advantage could there be in this practice... this camping? Why do they keep on camping?!!!

Snipers have a higher survival rate then a normal foot soldier as they stay in hiding and take out enemies at long distances.
This applies in games aswell as on a real battlefield.

if people hate campers because they get so many kills, then the campers are obviously doing what they intended to, and that is get as many kills as possible without dying.

people camp because it works

A good sniper doesn't camp. Campers just ruin the fun for themselves. If you know how to deal with them you won't need to complain, only laugh every time you kill them in the same way.

Respawn campers are the only campers that I don't tolerate. I tend to camp when I snipe without thinking about it anyway.

Campers get more kills and the other users in the game can't stand it. They live longer in the game and will have less deaths. Isn't that the Snipers Job?

See, campers bore their own eyesockets out. Y'know that REALLY TINY map on halo 3? Play shotguns and snipers on that. It lets you really have FUN when sniping.

campers take advantage of poor level design by the developers. a game like MGS4 makes camping almost impossible since it lets you know who killed you and where he is, so the next time you can a different route and sneak up on that mofo. It's why even snipers in MGO move around.

cant remember if COD4 let you see who killed you, but if it does and there's still camping; that means the maps are as well designed. online shooters are all about out flankign your enemy, and if a game doesnt let you do that, it's broken.

edit. i'm a sniper myself. I have my best rounds in MGO when I play as a sniper. But I never camp, I keep changing positions because I know the guy I killed will be coming after me.

If you complain about a camper, your not good enough to play against that person. I used to complain against campers in CSS, but when I understood how they did it, and why. It was so much easier to kill them.

I still complain about a few campers, but thats only when they are Terrorists in De_Dust2 and are camping at the base with Sniper over and over again. Because thats not even trying to plant the bomb, but now I kill most of them aswell, so they can do if they want to, but they don't get much better out of it : )

You complain about camping in a game that gives you tools like a silencer and a sniper rifle?

You can't "camp" in COD4 ... there are no weapon spawns. In quake, you could "camp" the rocket launcher spawn and kill people that tried to pick it up.

Kids these days... it's like they never played an FPS before.

I don't really mind if people camp because I play for fun and I usually spot them or the area they're in anyway. If they want to play that way, that's okay. I do the best I can and defeat them!

I will also admit that I " Camp" as most consider it, however I'm a moveable camper.
I never stay for long at the same place, I never hold a pattern between my spots and if I take down a guy, or small group depending on how lucky I am or if they move together, then I move just in case the server has the " See who killed you" function.

I guess I'm more irritating then your standard " Same place everytime Camper"

Well for certain things, it makes sense. Like with Mg's in Day of Defeat: Source. They would be screwed if they ran around instead of being deployed.

Well when your playing COD4 the only people who camp are people who have snipers or shotguns most of the time. Also in COD4, campers usually use claymores to have doors or windows closed to kill the enemy ifthey try to come from the rear. The thing is camping works but it is BORING as hell! Campers only do it for kills but its not worth taking the fun out of it. COD4 campers get really annoying especially when they are snipers in ghille suits hiding in the grass or bushes. If you do like to camp in COD4 you should always use overkill and use an automatic weapon such as the P90 or M4 Carbine etc. :D

BUT STILL I FRIGGIN HATE CAMPERS:!

I personally don't understand why people would do it, but I don't complain about it an awful lot, mainly because I just run in and take them out. I am a very aggressive player in games, I run about all over the place trying to pick up kills all over the battlefield. When it comes to sitting down with a sniper rifle, I can hold my own, but I get very bored with it, so I don't bother with it.

Plus, I don't care about my kill/death ratio too much so if I die, I just respawn and continue. For me, it's all about fun, I don't have fun sitting about. Others might have fun sitting about though, and I don't hate them for it, it's just not for me.

I don't mind campers as long as their not spawn campers. I hate those people with a passion. If you do it with out spawn camping then its just good strategy. Thats why people should really think twice before running into a open area in the heat of battle cause most likely they are not going to make it.

i try to not camp unless it's a team-based objective (such as when you have to defend a spot) but when being a class such as a sniper, you should NEVER stay in the same place when sniping. i actually took my advice from my brother (he's a scout in the army), he tells me "shoot, move to another spot, shoot, move to another spot" which actually works, its kinda like camping but you change it up :D

I think campers in general just got no skills. They´re afraid to get into the real action.I respect snipers who do really insane shots through the smallest PoV half over the Battlefield, but 98% of them are just annoying. They really ruined games for many others.Ever played a Match with 16 People where 12 of them are just camping near spawn-points?

What is irritating in COD4 is teams camping on one of the spawns (which you can only approach from one side) waiting for the enemy in team deathmatch. If both teams waiting out it's a draw, and if one team goes to the other, that team probably loses. But then again that's just COD4 team deathmatch being a complete joke.

Camping is fine with me as long as they don't spawn camp. If there's a sniper waiting for some dumb bloke to run out in the middle of the battlefield then kudos for them , they have a good technique. But when you camp near objectives (loose term to reference all on-line shooters) it really gets annoying. There is nothing worse than a guy with a shotgun or high powered pistol hiding in the corner waiting for you to grab the objective and you can't get to them cause they have all their openings covered in mines or claymores. I HATE SPAWN CAMPERS WITH A PASSION! You spawn camp I will find a way to get to you, even if it takes me the whole match, just for that one kill.

If the most effective stratergy in a game happens to be boring or rediculous, then it's the game's fault for favoring boring/rediculous tactics. The solution to such a situation is to play a better game...

Spawn Campers = Bad

Sniper/Position Campers = Ok

I'll be playing multiplayer games for years and I'm just use to snipers/position campers, they are playing in a way they want so who am i to judge them.

I just don't get the tendency of people to whine about play styles. Unless someone is exploiting a glitch, the proper targets of vitriol are the game designers.

In Warhawk camping isn't the most rewarding posture for either individuals (in terms of KDR or points) or teams (campers lose every match type), but there are things (flags, zones, bases with sizable airfields) that are valuable to the team and need a few campers, and I have tremendous respect for the guys that weather cluster bombs, snipers, tank blitzes and airstrikes in order to safeguard those things.

Depends on the game. In TF2 You have to camp a bit as sniper otherwise Your rifleshot won't be powerful enough to kill someone. Doesn't get annoying though since You know where they are and there's always some way to get back at them. Or with a game in which both sides need to attack it can be fine. Just means the game is build around camping, so running ablazing on Your own isn't that good an idea there.
Getting annoyed at campers doesn't mean You're not skilled enough. Someone camping with equal skill would take You out anytime since they got the advantage of first sight, surprise and direction they are facing. They're not doing it because it doesn't work.
That said i don't really understand how it's any fun to camp. Booooring. Even with snipers in games like BF2 i keep myself busy in the frontlines. Keep in mind that regardless of who is declared a winner, the real winner is the one who enjoyed it the most. I used to lose a lot of cardgames with my friends on purpose, because i would feel bad if they felt bad about losing. Win win.

Dude, if you are going to complain about camping, you picked the wrong game with Call of Duty 4. Most of the time you can just run in and kill them before they get a shot off. There are almost no places in the game where you can sit without having to worry about somebody coming from behind. If they don't want to show up on the UAV, they have to sacrifice a perk that makes them better at killing stuff. If they don't want you to see the shots, they can't have a scope on their gun and lose some range with a silencer. Even with all that, you can just watch the killcam to see exactly what they did if you still can't get them, ensuring a camper can't get more than one or two people by surprise without changing their position and thus not camping.

I had to reply on this one. I camped just last night on the crossfire map. I have to disagree with you about the camping. I had a K/D ratio of about 4/1 and was amazed at how no one came to take me out... they just kept exposing themselves and I kept killing them, it was too funny! Was not boring at all as you mentioned. Used a silenced G3 for a mess of one shot kills and an AK74 for close encounters. I do agree w/ you on the use of overkill for camping. Course I used claymores to cover the entries but that only lasts for so long since I only get two of them. After they're gone I have to constantly look at the radar, or visibly check entry ways, or just listen for footsteps. In my experience they usually come a running which is to my advantage since I have a good sound card and surround sound - hear'em everytime, lol! It's when they crouch and advance on me is when I usually get caught or someone thinks to cook-off a nade and lob 1 in. About the camping issue... I've heard said the meaning of insanity is to do the same thing repeatedly only to keep getting the same results. Soooo, I suggest to all who hate campers is to use your noodle a little more and try another approach to kill them and spare everyone the whining. How can you get better if you don't learn to overcome? Experience is the best teacher. The only thing directed at you Onyx is the camping not being fun part. Have a good 1!!! ------ P.S. I could have been taken out of that camping spot easily last night but no one tried. Who's fault is that 4 getting killed repeatedly?

Camping isnt necessarilly bad, its just that in some games, its so easy to hide, or spawn camp, why do anything else?

Its really bad. Thats why I like the Kill cam, so it eliminates campers, and makes them move position.

Spawn camping sucks. That really irritates me

I don't know if this is pure "camping" but I tend to move from cover to cover spots (for example a house or behind a car) and "defend" that area until the enemy realizes im in that position, then I would move to another.

It's kind of impossible to not play in that way because it's so effective. All I need is my trusty M16 with the red dot sight and my extra ammo perk and I can go a VERY long time without dying. The only issue I have is running out of bullets:)

if its sitting on your butt while you should plant the bomb, it should have penalty. other than that, leave them be...

i'm just some people here, bored by sitting and waiting for enemy. but i think its more real than jumping and firing guns, so for reality lovers, it should be fun to wait their prey to hunt.

I usually camp, pick a few enemies off, and move. I don't see what the big problem with camping is, since COD4 has a kill cam it's pretty easy to counter snipe the sniper.

I hated spawn campers in Socom online because they ruin the fun. All they did was throw gernades into the spawn camp and you would blow up once you spawn or they would just sit in the corner and you would have no chance to fight back. Those gamers are cheap and they cant play without ruining the fun. Otherwise, todays online games like CoD4 and MGO have maps were no matter what, you get killed unless you are really skilled. When you get killed in CoD4, the "kill cam" provides you with the fp view of the person who killed you, which is helpful for when you respawn. MGO is similar as someone mentioned earlier.

i remember the people that whined about players using AWP's in counterstrike. the thing is, most of them couldnt fire a AWP straight if you dropped one at their feet.

there are two reasons why people complain about campers. one is that there is a fault in the game (bad map design, over powered weapon, etc...). the other is that the whiner is simply out skilled by the camper. either reason is not the fault of the camper.

I personally feel that campers are annoying, because they tend to get cheap kills. Is for that same reason that they will still do it. Instead of letting them annoy me (I know, I'm contradicting myself), I try to find a way to go kill them! I've tried camping a few times, but I find it more fun to go out an battle moving around (although I do get killed more often that way). It all depends what you like. If camping works out, then I'll just have to becareful and shank you from behind...(Ding!! Muthaf***a)

Before I retired from COD4 cuz I have so many other games to play, I would camp like crazy but get a lot of kills. I was definitly a camper. The key to being a good camper is changing location and not staying in one spot.

As for dealing with campers? The key is to just pay attention to the killcam in COD4 or stay focused to where the enemies at like in MGO.

In every online shooter, there's gonna be campers, whether some like it or not.

Dude, then you aren't camping. Camping is sitting in one spot and not moving EVER. The way you define it, the only way to not camp is to make sure your character never stands still.

I don't think enough people realize the difference between 'camping' and 'sniping'.

'Camping' means you always hide in the same spot. Someone finally kills them and they respawn and go right back to the same spot.To a good player a camper is actually an easy kill. You will know a camper is always in the same location. And in some cases it is the 'spot' that is the 'camper' as it might not be the same person you kill in that spot each time. You just have to avoid those spots viewpoints or throw an explosive something in the camping spot every time you can.

Sniping on the other hand is strategic moving from point to point as to not be killed easily while still killing people from a distance. You never really know where a sniper is, other than the fact if you go in the open you are probably going to get ripped a new one.

The problem with this thread is most people can't tell the difference between the two and are either: One, sick of getting killed by good snipers; or two, suck at the game. Unfortunately both results usually come with the same insult 'Campers suck', which just encourages them, because now they know they are getting to you.

The only way to beat out a 'camper' is to out play their stupidity. Good snipers on the other hand are an entirely different problem.
