Personally i believe God of War is the best out of the three franchises, but, that's my opinion.

God of War = Good story, but is too easy and gameplay is very simple
DMC = Decent story, very challenging takes real dedication to be able to actually flow with the well polished and very stylized gameplay
Ninja Gaiden = Below average story, hardest among the three and takes the longest time to master, well polished and fast paced gameplay
from that I'd probably go with DMC, when it comes to hack and slash games, my main focus is the gameplay, and I expect it to be really challenging and difficult to master, and God of War fails miserably on this aspect IMO . . . And with Ninja Gaiden, I just don't like anything else about the game aside from the core gameplay, I could care less about Ryu Hayabusa or any of the other characters in the game, the characters just aren't that iconic compared to Dante or even Kratos . . .
DMC3:SE alone blows the entirety of the other two series away comparable to what a hurricane does to a house made out of paper.
But, strictly in the context of how good the series is, DMC 2 is horrible, DMC 4 is great, but nothing compared to Ninja Gaiden Black, and DMC 1 wile still a excellent game, is really left in the dust as far as action - hack 'n slash games are concerned.
I guess God of War is the better series, it don't recall a bad game in it. Even though the combat is repetitive, simplistic and mediocre, it's a consistently good series.
Wile with Ninja Gaiden, there's number 3 which is a atrocity, and with DMC there's number 2 which doesn't exist.
I liked GOW, but I like DMC better. I just enjoy watching Dante in cutscenes and the character in general more than Kratos. And the gampley in GOW was so easy while in DMC you had to actually try a bit.
Ninja Gaiden was hard. Very hard. Some cheap boss fights (Alma #1 where you could never see both characters at the same time, the tank, and even though they weren't a boss those damn ghost pirahnnahs). And the part where it was 3 or 4 bosses in a row. It all led up to a final twist that didn't matter and a final boss that took one try to kill.
DMC for me.
I've never played a Ninja Gaiden, but between DMC and GOW
-Combat: DMC>GOW
-The actual adventure: GOW>DMC
-Story: GOW>DMC
-Protagonist: Dante>>>Kratos
DMC3:SE alone blows the entirety of the other two series away comparable to what a hurricane does to a house made out of paper.

Exactly this. As a series, God of War, but DMC3:SE and NGB/S are the best games with only Bayonetta coming close to their excellence.
Currently God of War because both Ninja Gaiden and DMC have fallen. But going by the past titles and gameplay I love NGS2 the most and for atmosphere the original Devil May Cry on the PS2.
Never liked GoW, only like the first DMC, the first Ninja Gaiden (on xbox that is) was epic although the second wasn't that great. I'd say NG>DMC>GoW.
The God of War series has been consistently good. The main Devil May Cry series is the second best out of the three because of Devil May Cry 2. If that game did not have the drawbacks it is infamous for, DMC would be the best. In my opinion, the 3D Ninja Gaiden series is in third place because Ninja Gaiden 2 when beyond the framework of the digital world and so moves were cutting into the floors and walls at times which looked alright and added risk to attacking because of the increased chance that any attack would not strike the opponent correctly because it was partially going beyond the walls and floors. Tomonobu Itagaki explained the reason why they did the latter. While there is a reason for that gameplay mechanic, it is why I rate Ninja Gaiden 2 lower than Ninja Gaiden Black. However, Ninja Gaiden Black is the best action adventure game out of all three franchises.
Personal opinion: Ninja Gaiden Black>DMC>God of War
I don't get it either. The guys a goof.God of War, by leaps and bounds. I'm not sure how anyone can consider Dante a great character.

And KRATOS?! At least Dante has multiple ways of talking istead of yelling. I think the only time kratos didn't yell was once in the third game.

Dante is a cocky, cool, confident demon slayer. Even though he doesn't act like he cares, he does. It's his styIishness that's so awesome. He's a badass.
Kratos on the other hand is an ass through and through. He kills anyone and anything even if he has no good reason to. I have no idea how he had a wife and kid nor will I understand how anyone could like him as a character.

I really don't understand how anyone over the age of ten can call Dante a "badass". Horribly written and poorly acted, he really is just an awful character. I am, however, very optimistic about the reboot.

But still, that opening scene of DMC3 killed any interest I had in the series. I am, however, very optimistic about the reboot.
Really? The opening of DMC3 put you off the series, but nothing shown from the new reboot has?

Nope. Going by the recent the trailer, the reboot seems to actually have good voice acting and dialog, which is something that can not be said about the original trilogy.
yea.and kratos is a crybaby in a miniskirt with hardly any character in himGod of War, by leaps and bounds. I'm not sure how anyone can consider Dante a great character.

I guess Dante is a polarizing character. I think he's one of the best the video game industry has, personally.

Yes because angsty, teenager is so much better  How could you possibly think the dialog is better in the reboot?
I felt like shoving pencils in my ears with that trailer. I'l proly end up playing the game muted the entire time.

Isn't your avatar from Stallone's Cobra? Why are you talking about good acting and dialog? :P
Personally enjoyed the DMC series the most but God of War is the most consistent. So probably God of War at this point.Devil-ItachiThey are only consistent because they are all pretty much the same I feel. Slightly different weapons but they otherwise blur together for me. Good games but I much prefer DMC despite leaps and dips in quality.
Even though they are not really the same thing, Ninja Gaiden is preciese combat while God of War is button mashing fun. But I guess God of War, even though Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 are excellent action games, way more challenging and offer some of the best combat around. DMC is even more different, it's not as serious but also offers excellent deep combat. Just not really great to compare these 3.

I love Kratos and when GOW first arrived on the scene I found the character to be a refreshing change, I don't see why every character needs to good and lovable. And as far as Im concerned Kratos has reasons and is not completely heartless, essentially the lesser of two evil. Not to mention he was brought up by Spartans which must not be easy, got tricked by Ares into killing his own family and betrayed by Zeus. I say such things definitely warrants all the killing he does, though not all of it. Anyway GOWA is meant to add more humanity to the character so I'm excited to see how that plays out.

Isn't your avatar from Stallone's Cobra? Why are you talking about good acting and dialog? :P
While it is a hilariously entertaining movie, Cobra isn't a good showcase of those elements, obviously. And I guess you haven't seen Rocky or Cop Land if you're suggesting Stallone can't act.
Plus, Cobra uses scissors to cut his pizza, like a real man.
Kratos has reasons >Swift_Boss_AI disagree, he really doesn't, in the first one he maybe has a flimsy reason at best but in God of War 2 and 3? There is no justification for ANYTHING he does. In fact everything he does is his fault simply because he is a war mongering tool. I can't empathize with any actions he takes and any game where I want the final boss to win is failing character wise imo :P

Not suggesting Stallone can't act, I just loved that movie for how bad it was kind of like Arnold's Commando.

I hated the Greek Gods they were greedy and manipulative in the game so for me everything Kratos did in GOW2&3 was justified. He was bringing down a corrupt system it doesn't matter that he wasn't a shining knight, that's why I love him.

Kratos was out of control as the God of War though. He just went on this destructive path and had to be stopped, similarly to the way he had to stop Ares. Zeus stepped in, and Kratos felt betrayed, but everything he did in the 2nd and 3rd game he brought upon himself.
I actually like that about Kratos though, he isn't really a hero by any means. Aside from the Chains of Olympus, where he basically saves the world. I thought Ghost of Sparda did a decent job of humanizing him, too.
