Don't you think it will hurt your chances of getting some?thebrown07

Nope- in fact, I find having some good, accessible games laying around increases chances, not decreases. While it might be a hard sell initially, a good, fun atmosphere gets people relaxed.

Yea man i never had anything to hide. I met my wife when i was about 14 (13 or 14 cant remember the details ). I'm 25 and were married now. I've always been a hardcore gamer ever since i was a kid. At the time i was playing through Goldeneye on the N64 and come to find out so was she! She is by no means a hardcore gamer but she liked that game and Donkey kong for the SNES. It was cool cause at the time it gave us some stuff to talk about.

I wouldn't hide that from anyone. There is nothing wrong with being a gamer!

i'm married, so it's pretty obvious. she's not a gamer herself so she doesn't like when i spend hours gaming, but i still do it. prior to being married, it definitely wasn't the first thing i told a girl on a date. i've never been ashamed of playing games though.

There's no harm in telling a girl you play video games from my experience. I probably wouldn't share my late night hours of playing Oblivion to complete Mage Guild Quests and the Arena Quests next to a bottle of Mountain Dew. I never let slip the hours I just need to spend "relaxing" from "stress at work" (in other words, "Kill Streaking" from "the M4 Carbine"). My recent girlfriend now plays video games with me since I introduced her to Guitar Hero and Viva Pinata.

If my girlfriend can watch The Hills without me murdering her, then I get to play Portal

Well not to sound arrogant, but I am a pretty good looking guy. So I can usually say just about anything I want to them without getting laughed at. Unless it's nervous laughter.

If you present yourself as an attractive, good-hearted, enjoyable person, then it really won't matter to her what you like to do. Anything you like to do is what cool people do as far as she is concerned. Just never allow yourself to feel like the inferior one. Establish dominance from the beginning and she'll be more concerned with getting you to like her than she will be with trying to find out if you impress her.

Mash_Affect

Of course, if you're still running around high school drama queens, they pretty much eccept anything you throw at them. it does but it doesn't necessarily matter how you present yourself. Trust me, i have mocked girls terribly and still ended up hooking. If you're dating them its all about what you got to offer besides just good looks. Because eventually they are going to look past that...You can be a friggin model but not have much luck becouse you are still living with mom and dad and have no money or car or a real life for that matter..Don't get me wrong good looks is a plus cause evertime i go out i usually bring someone back with me..lol. Have something to back that up and video games subtract from everything sooner or later.

I don't think I'm understanding you. You're saying good looks and a good personality only impress high school drama queens and that if you really want to keep a girl you have to have money, a car, and your own place?

Thats about the reality of life with women though. I dont know where you may be from that you have these magical girls that love you for you and are like the fairytale romances hollywood would have you believe, but the truth is far more insidious for how a girl judges a guy. Noone ever scored chick points by living with mom or dad, or not having a vehicle, a place of their own, a steady job, and decent income. Noone ever scored points with a girl by telling them they play World Of Warcraft and just earned an epic mount after 3000 hours of killing trolls either. Go ahead, try and use the line its good for a laugh you would honestly be better off telling them you have herpes.

It appears that in the western society, girls mostly see hardcore gamers as nerds, geeks, etc. It's not the case in Philippines at least in my hometown. I have plenty of friends that are girls (i'm not close to them though) who know that i have a passion for video games. Most male here play video games and most girls don't mind at all. I'm just glad we aren't much westernized.

That is not what i am saying at all. I am not talking about good looks impressing anyone, what i ment was that telling a younger girl you're a gamer would not matter to them as much as it would if they were older, say in their twenties. And i never said you need a car to be able to keep a girlfriend. Yeah they might think you are cute and s**t and date you becouse of it, but sooner or later its not going to matter to them as much anymore and what they will do is look for other things you have to offer, and which is what????..You're gaming abilities?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!...See what im saying?...I'm twenty two yrs. old and when i go out, the girls i meet are typically a few years older then me so under no circumstances do i sit there and tell them how i jus spent six in a half hrs. last nite playing COD4, OK???

It depends wether the topic arises or not, if not then she'd find out soon enough anyway. If she isn't cool with that then i'm not cool with her.

I wouldn't try to hide it, thats just silly.

Yeah, you should. If they mean a thing, they won't care. Hell, maybe they'll even want to get involved. I got my girlfriend hooked on Halo, and even WoW for a little bit. If it's really worth yer time, they won't give a damn.

Why would I waste time talking to a girl who isn't hot?

...

In all seriousness, why would looks or gender matter? When I talk to other people I usually talk about stuff we have in common regardless of if the other person is a hot girl or an obese male in his mid 50s.

It seems he cares more about "getting some" than a serious relationship with someone.

Apologies if this is stretching the topic of general games discussion.

My question is: If you count yourself as a hardcore gamer would you tell a girl (that u are dating) that you do play alot of games and she will have to deal with it. Or do you wait till after you have got her and let her find out by herself (which she will probs get pretty mad at). Also do you think the type of game would matter to them? For example an MMO over FPS (due to the escaping to another reality argument on MMOs)?

P.S I've already been through this situation so I'm not looking for advice :P

thebrown07

Yeah I tell them, and if they don't like it, then that's too bad. I'm not giving up gaming for any girl! ;)

That's awfully pessimistic. Not all girls are so objective in their goals. In fact, I'd say very few are. Men are far more emotionally detached when it comes to relationships in most cases I've seen.

For the record, I've been with women that paid for dinner or bought me things. I've never been with a woman that has even tried to take advantage of me and I wouldn't let them if they tried. I'm sure it happens often to some men who look or act a certain way, but if you have an ounce of charm in you, most women will be head over heels.

In my mind, if she doesn't love me for exactly who I am then, 'Next!'. But to answer, no. Let her find out on her own unless she asks you how you spend your down time. I'm coming across a lot of girls on XBox Live. Get one o' them.

I won't pretend that I'm not a gamer, but I won't talk about them if the girl clearly isn't interested, and I'm certainly not going to play games instead of talking to her (unlike some of my friends...then again, some of my gamer friends are girls, so meh).

This reminds me of one time when I was with the girl I'm crazy about, and one of my friends went up to me and asked me what level my character was (for an online game). She asked us what game we were talking about, I said "World of Warcraft", and she replied with "never heard of it". It was so cute! :P
Oh, and another time she tried to spark up a conversation about a Wii game she had played, so yeah, she seems cool about it and doesn't mind attempting to talk to me about some of my interests...

Anyway, point is, lying to girls is a terrible, terrible idea. Be yourself, even to incredibly gorgeous girls like her^^, who I totally have to ask out sometime this week.

Uh, right, back on topic, if they can't accept you for who you are, how can you expect to have a lasting relationship with them?

Unless she is blonde, she will figure it out easily quite fast.

I mean, 2 computers, a 360, a ps2, a ds, an old Xbox...and in the closet, semi-hidden from general view...posters of games. Yet, I would say the overwhelming majority don't need to see my place to have this figured out; on their own.

I seriously need to buy a clue and understand when a girl is interested however. Often, I understand AFTER, when it is too late...

A direct question also bring a direct answer...what are you hobbies: I enjoy walking a LOT. But then, if more...honesty command that I talk about little video games. But this year, I spent way more time walking than playing games.

Gaming doesn't define me as a person. It's just a hobby, and it's best to keep it that way.

Dollar75

My sentiments exactly. Some people don't "get" gaming and thats fine by me, aslong as they realise that I'm more than that. That being said, I know many girls who love playing video games. Its a form of escapism and relaxing, everyone has their own ways, this is mine.

im of the same opinion...prob is... i live in a small **** town in newzealand.... and all the girls in the town know im a gamer... they tend to avoid me...hence the reason i look for a social life online in gaming..ect...i suppose its a vicious circle

ahh well heres to hoping ill get a gf one day =(

I'd tell her for sure. Hold nothing back. It's better that way so she can lose interest in the beginning instead of building a relationship and then have everything fall apart later.

But there must be sacrifices. I'm sure she won't like it if I spend more hours on WoW then her.

Good question, its nothing I would bring up outright its something that I would not hide its just something she would have't to notice and find out for herself, if she doesn't notices I am good with that, if she does then I would just go with the flow.

No, I haven't come out of my closet yet.

I'm not that much of a gamer anymore, so it's not like it's something I'd see much of a reason to bring up anyway - there isn't much for me to hide.

i'd be slightly embarresed. i'm uncomfortable with the mainstream perception of a gamer, so i think that they would not understand unless they played themselves...so perhaps it is best not to arouse misconceptions.

it's difficult to know when to flaunt your 'geekness' and when to deny it. i'm ambivalent.

Or, you could just consistently act like yourself... that way, people have a real basis upon which to dislike or like you. *shrugs*

Or, you could just consistently act like yourself... that way, people have a real basis upon which to dislike or like you. *shrugs*

i guess. it's strange though, how i am often in two minds about my pastime of playing games. i'm often quite smug and consider it to be an artform that i (think) i know all about etc. etc. and it makes me feel what i've experienced is valuable. other times i just want to stop and make more emphasis of my music taste, or a book i'm reading. they are more 'universal' experiences that most people have.

now that i consider it...the problem is probably not games discussion; it is probably the depth of that discussion and whether you go on and on about it! ;-0

I don't get it.

If your expecting her to be mad when she finds out your a gamer, and state that "she'll have to live with it" I think you may just have some problems beyond that of gaming...

Get your priorities sorted out, if you playing games so much, that you acctually "know" that your going to upset anyone your with, you have a real problem, get of the games, go outside, and get a life : / Honestly, gaming is fine, but yeah, when your playing that much... come on.

Well im married. Have been since 1993. But my wife knew then I was a gamer. Not only that but im a hardcore Masters of The Univers person. I have and watch all the classic and 2k series cartoons.

I just dont care what people think. I dont care what girls think and I never have. Im myself and always have been.
