[QUOTE="Jbul"]

Anyone gotten the "Flash! King Of The Impossible!" Achivement? I think it's glitched. In fact, I know it is. I've specifically done it many times but the achievement has never popped. Weird.

Anyone know the story on this?

Spirit_of_87

Which achievement is that exactly? I mean, what are the stipulations? I think I might have gotten that one on the ps3.

Kill 4 enemies at once with the Lock-On Laser. I have killed 4 enemies with the laser at once many times, still no achievement.

Yeah, I managed to get the achievement. I believe I got it on Act 3, when you start charging towards the Kreon. The hatch that opens has a lot of grunt robots easy for the pickings, and if you haven't done so, try and upgrade the laser so you lock onto 8 targets. Didn't really have a problem with that one. It just came naturally.

I am having a problem with one of the achievements, however. It's the "Kill two Romanovs with melee attacks" one. Where's the best place for that, and does it only have to be melee attacks? I swear that I went after two of them and chainsawed them to death with the disc launcher but nothing happened. What am I doing wrong here?

The perfect place for that achievement is 4-1. Right after you kill the snipers, proceed through the gate and kill the wave of enemies (which should include 2 Romanov's). Kill the enemies, including the Romanov's and Walkers, then wait. Make sure you have a shotgun in your inventory. 2 Romanov's will spawn, alone. Boost over, use the shotgun melee attack and charge it up fully, then unleash. This will not only do about 1/2 of their health bar worth of damage, it will send these mother****ers across the map, and put them out of range to retaliate while you're vulnerable after the melee. Recover (I like to sommersault to safety), then boost around to isolate the Romanov you've injured. Repeat. You can actually hit both of them with this melee if they're close together. Once they're both dead, voila, Hand Of God!

I'm sure you can use any weapon melee you want, I just found the shotgun melee useful for the safety both during and after the attack for the reasons listed above. Oh yeah, don't try to use the Disc Launcher Melee. For some reason, it doesn't count for the achievement. And obviously be sure to not fire a single shot at these guys, but you're a smart guy Dez, you already knew that! 8)

Argh! I gotta work on my reading comprehension. I glanced through the achievements and thought it said to finish two Romanovs with melee attacks. I missed the "using only" part of that. Anyway, thanks for the advice. I'll give that a try later today or tomorrow.

Just got Fly Swatter, and Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em, and Failure Breeds Success. If you need help with any of 'em, let me know.

Could you give me some tips on what I'm supposed to do for the Flyswatter achievement? I see all these turrets, but I can't damage any of them. I tried to trigger the alarm, but nothing seems to happen. Am I even aiming at the right thing here?

It's a tricky one. In that Sniper Section... after the 2nd or 3rd set of lights, a platform comes around with a single driver and flies over you. Take this out by headshotting the driver. Use ARS if you have to. You can do this by rolling to the middle of the car you're in to get a clear shot. Right afterward, one of your guys will say "Enemies Ahead, sir". At this point, use the 2nd Zoom on your Sniper Rifle and you'll eventually see 2 guys on those Flying Turrets directly ahead of your platform. Look close, they're far away. They're really hard to hit at this range, but it can be done. If you can't get them at this range, try to follow them as they fly to the left. They'll pass behind a few buildings and structures and come into view several times. You best bet is when your Distance To Target meter reads about 500. They'll be floating, standing still, slightly to your left. The best time to take your shots is around 480. Headshots obviously work best. Might take a few tries, but once you get ahang of where these guys fly, it's not too hard.

Good luck :P

I definitely think Vanquish is worth full price. The reviews saying its too short I think missed the point. Its a 6-8 hour game then after that you also have challenges that if you enjoyed the game will probably want to do because the combat is so fun. The 6-8 story hours is dense and mostly non stop action as opposed to a stretched out 10 hours. I prefer the 6-8 super fine tuned hours with no parts they could have cut out.

I'm still pretty early in and still getting the hang of things, but thus far Vanquish is excellent. The gameplay/game design is polished to a mirror finish. Being able to hop into tanks and mechs and behind cannons every once in a while is really great.

I decided to be a punk and make my first playthrough on normal but I'm still dying a fair bit.

Normal is good for your first go-around... I think I died like 30 times. Don't be ashamed... the sucker will hand you your *** the first time through.8) Good news is, on your second playthrough, you'll have a good grasp of the combat!

It's nice to see more people playing this game.

Jbul, thanks for that achievement tip. I now have everything except collecting all the statues (yuck) and finishing all the challenges. There are 2 challenges left for me, but I cannot for the life of me finish the last part of the fourth challenge. It is so stupidly hard right now, it's driving me crazy :lol:

Anytime bro. I haven't tried it too many times, but I can't get that "Tightrope walker" achievement. I can easily pass that level (obviously) and only destroy 2 cannons, but I never get the achievement.The only set of Cannons I see are at the end of the crumbling bridge, unless I'm missing something, this achievement is weird and random.

You're exactly right. You have to hit those cannons before the place goes down so you're on a bit of a time limit there. Rocket Launcher helps a lot, but as long as you keep shooting at them, you should take a few of them out. Lock on may not work, so just get a little closer if you can. Even easier if you lower the difficulty.

Beat the whole game today, in two sittings; 5 hours and 8 minutes. Lots of fun, but short. I'll probably play through it again on hard to get some more trophies (got the PS3 version).

I'm currently at Act 3 Mission 1 and totally loving this game, it's so mind-meltingly awesome. The visuals are gorgeous and the gameplay is fantastic. While the action is crazy the controls make it work like a dream. Some great boss fights so far as well.

I'm considering picking up this game, is it worth 60$ or should I wait for it to drop in price? Thanks for the help guys.

Jbul

This game is for a particular type of gamer. I for one, am loving it. I just beat it for the second time and can't wait to start my third playthrough. It's a game you have to plan on playing multiple times to get the most out of, which is fine, because it'll only take you 7-10 hours, gametime, on your first playthrough. It can be unforgiving at times, but there's alot to master, and once you do, it's like gravy on a biscuit.

Cool thanks for the information, it sounds like the type of game I'm into.

Just got finished with the "Unknown" boss on normal. That was so much fun. It's like Devil May Cry 3 only without the enemies that are no fun to fight. The way I'm dodging lasers then returning fire while powersliding just says something about how perfectly the two s.tyles of gameplay have been blended together.

Just finished Vanquish. It took me about 6 hours on Normal, so yeah it's on the short side but WOW what an awesome experience and certainly one I'll play through a few more times along with playing the challenges. The only thing that really hurt it at all for me was that I didn't find the ending very satisfying. Still a fantastically well made game, top-notch quality. 9/10

Definitely agree. The story is crap, pure and simple. I actually ended up skipping the cutscenes about halfway through the game just so I could get back to the action. :)

I'm glad they kept the story to a minimum. It reminds me of an arcade game story: "soldiers, we have 8 hours to stop bad **** from happening" and that's really it. Yeah, I suppose you have Burns and Sam's clashing beliefs on how to do the mission, but meh... the whole thing was just there. I didn't really care about the ending either, but the way it left itself open for a sequel, I really hope Mikami will follow up on this game somewhere down the road.

And in other news, I still cannot beat the last part of Challenge 4. Has anybody completed this, because I could really use some help here. Too many powerful enemies at once with very little cover, the whole thing just demolishes me in seconds.

Heh, nope. I'm currently on my 2nd playthrough (hard difficulty, about half way through act 4). I did beat the first challenge though. That was no easy accomplishment 8)

By the way, you seriously skipped the cutscenes? I mean yeah the story was garbage, but it was still enjoyable to hear the characters shout out cheesy lines and quotes from famous war and action movies. :lol: I loved the nods to Starship Troopers and Full Metal Jacket in particular. Also the more action-packed cutscenes were really cool to watch.

I've seen all the cutscenes now. I watched all of them on my first playthrough until the last 1/3rd. I found them abhorrent. Beyond bad. So I skipped them to get to what makes the game a gem -- the astonishing gameplay.

This game just came out of nowhere. I was looking for a new shooter to buy, so I read reviews on GameSpot so I could choose one, including the much talked about Call-of-Duty BlackOps. Looked at the videos etc. Several things put me off COD:-

1. basically C.O.D. gratuitous mass human slaughter, (and it's now clear to me that C.O.D. is a game which takes itself far too seriously);

2. C.O.D. emphasis on internet multiplay (a sure turn-off sign for me is when most of a game review is talks about the internet multiplay);

3. storylines (yawn) -- if I want a story I'll read a book or watch a film.

And then by lucky chance I read GameSpot's review on Sega's "Vanquish". I'd neither previously heard of it, nor had I heard of "Platinum Games".

Hmm.I still wasn't sure which one to buy – Black-Ops, or Vanquish? Then a few days later, I was just wandering into Virgin Megastore, and I saw both C.O.D. and Vanquish on the shelf in front of me, both at the same fairly high price.

After much deliberating I plucked for Vanquish.And boy did I make the right decision. Vanquish is a total blast. Everything about the gameplay and the game engine is simply astounding. Vanquish is a masterpiece and the best true "game" in my opinion. I just couldn't put the PS3 controller down. I played it all weekend, and now I'm going to play it again in 'hard' skill level (as well as the Challenge side modes). . .

In short, who cares about the "storyline"? Indeed, games that are based on 'stories', well, you just play them once. They are rather like reading a book -- once you've read it, you don't read it again. But Vanquish is not a story. Vanquish is action, and a whole lot of fun. So I'm going back for more. . .
