Any Tales fans here? I recently finished Tales of Graces F and thought the game was okay; I liked the combat but didn't think much of the story and hated the dungeon layouts. Do you think I should give any of the other Tales games a go or are they much the same?

I haven't played any of the recent entries, but they're all very similar, yes. If you don't like one of them, chances are you won't enjoy the rest of them.

Hi! I am looking for a game for the DS which is similar to The World Ends with You, or Dragon Quest IX, or Pokemon (I last played Diamond), but which does one critical thing better: not needing notes and/or cheat-sheets.

You see, each of these games is linear enough while you are first playing through that you don't ever forget what you were doing, and I have played each to completion and loved them. But while each game offers extensive after-story gameplay, none of it is something that you can just pick up and play for a few hours without reference materials, especially if it's been months or a year since you touched it. For example, in TWEWY, I'm afraid to level up pins unless I can consult an extensive chart of which ones require which TYPE of levelling up. In DQIX, I don't remember what items in my inventory I should be saving because I'm halfway to being able to build some new thing or hand in a quest - unless I take extensive notes as I play. And all three suffer from the issue that without a printed map marking important locations, I can't remember where anything is.

So:

  • Nintendo DS (or 3DS).
  • RPG or similar genre; I know I love levelling and combat and travelling a big world, but I'm willing to experiment.
  • Lots of gameplay. It doesn't have to be story-related, I'm fine with chasing down 100% completion or what-have-you. New Game Plus Mode doesn't usually do it for me though; it's not much different from just starting a new save or picking up a completely different game.
  • Cannot require note-taking or looking things up online to access any of that gameplay. (Or else it's not portable / easy to just pick up and play, which is what I want when I reach for my DS).

Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch!

I played Graces F and out of the all the Tales games I've played, I felt it was the worst one. While they are similar, I certainly wouldn't say they are the same. The storylines can be a bit hit and miss though and the dungeon layouts in all the ones I've played are pretty similar.

If you want to give another Tales game a go I'd recommend trying Xillia, as despite its faults, it has a much better story and set of characters than Graces F has. Tales Of Symphonia is my personal favourite in the series and that is also being re-released next year. Even if you aren't a fan of the series I'd recommend at least giving that a try.

@harlequin01:

i have more or less your same tastes when it comes to video games... I'm an rpg duwde hehe...

So I'm going to recommend to you ... :

DUNGEON SIEGE 1

it's quite old now and if your in for the gfx... well it ain't much nowadays... but it ain't bad either. environments are cool and frisky, and the adventure takes you on all kinds of terrain, from farms to icy mountains ... and obviously dungeons... it's simply magnificent... as for its story... its good, nothing special, but still very entertaining... it has a certain fairy tale element to it which makes it elegant enough to enjoy :)

i pretty much liked the gameplay... you'll have to manage your inventory well and take a good amount of provisions before undergoing a quest which will lead you into dungeons... you'll find yourself hoping to find the exit as soon as you enter (though it will torture you until you start begging for light ... you know... coz you're out of potions and will have to make up with them by improving your strategy and tactics...(play it on hard mode to really enjoy it's sense of dungeon survival).

it's definitely worth a shot... (it's one of my favorites)

DO NOT:

play dungeon siege 2 or 3 (i pretended i never did after i played them d-_-b they were a let down)

watch: In The Name Of The King (a dungeon siege tale) (yea i was hospitalized for temporary blindness... that film's a curse i tell ye!!)

***********************************

Hope this helps ;) (p.s i'm waiting for The Witcher 3 too ... *drools)

another good rpg would be:

Fable 1 --> sweet game (again not the second. (since its not on pc) and third... well, i liked the third but i really don't know why... it's not that good :P )

"So i have a question about some RPGs. Mainly, how good is Tales of Vesperia? I played Tales of the Abyss and loved it, and I've heard from many places that it's the best Tales game. Is it worth the money?

Also, how is Resonance of Fate and Eternal Sonata?"

Vesperia is probably one of the best Tales games.... I certainly think it's better than Abyss but that's just me. Eternal Sonata is also really good and quite an attractive game. The battle system is very satisfying and different. All and all though Vesperia is a really long and open game where as Eternal Sonata is a bit linear so theres not as much extra stuff to keep ya busy.

So, I bought a PC with an AMD E1-1200 APU Radeon HD Graphics 1.40 GHZ and 3,70 RAM. Believe it or not, this gear is enough to call an excellent gaming device! I can run Red Faction Guerrilla (Low Settings), Dead Space 2 (Low Settings) and Far Cry 2 (High Settings!) plus Dragon Age Origins (Low Settings). I can run a lotta recent games, as long asI put em in the lowest resolution and low graphics. But, my PC isn't high tech. So I would like some good suggestions of games that run on this device.

Hi guys,

I am looking for a game like Pirates of the Caribbean (2001).
In that game you could do business, buy or sell ships, trade goods, get a loan, deposit cash, etc. I have played that game several times and it's actually too easy to make a lot of money. Do you know of any similar games which is more modern and complicated? The more educational and realistic, the better, and preferable 3rd person.

Looking forward to hear your suggestions,
Thanks.

@pdpax: Does it have to be pirate themed or just include those elements?

@yoco007: If you like the fantasy setting of The Witcher and the loot mechanics of Borderlands maybe you'd be interested in Diablo 3?

I only have money for 1 game this November what would you guys recommend, Assassins Creed Heritage Collection (includes all AC games except IV) or XCOM Commander Edition (XCOM EU + DLC+ Enemy Within)?

I love both genres equally. The AC collection is one heck of a deal but I'm not sure if I will enjoy these games (I loved ACII but hated the first one, heard the series went downhill after ACII)

Hi all,

I have played World of Warcraft with my dad for years and am looking for something new and different to take its place. I'd like to be able to play this hypothetical game with Dad or perhaps my husband. Need a game for the PC, no FPS games please. I enjoy RPGs (including JRPGS) and would be open to a good puzzle game. I've played and enjoyed KOTOR. Not sure if there are other game categories I might like or not, but please don't consider this request as RPGs only. Also, I am not looking for another MMO (free to play or otherwise). Hubby likes a game with a definite endpoint.

Thanks!

Hello i will be very greatful if someone can tell me which is this game.

I dont remember much i have played this game 5-6-7 years ago. The game is RPG for PC the game is in 3D

The information i remember is that the game was with 3 races : Angels Demons and the third ones were orks, goblins or something like that some green dudes.the other thing that i remember is that the angels had some white big lion looking like mounts and that in the first mision with the demons you and some other demons were escorting a genreral of the demons that was riding a very big creature and that in the first mision with the ggoblin ork like dudes while you were walking you're going in an arena to fight with other creatures of that race or something like that.I have only gotten to the 2 mission with each race cuz the game was rly hard for me at that time.I remember that at the 2 mission with each race you were playing with a stronger character of the race that you chose.I also remember that in the 2 mission with the demons your last objective was to kill some angel archers in a graveyard of some sort. That is about all the information i remember. If you guys can help me i will be very very thankful.

So in light of the low traffic this thread receives, I'm gonna try an experiment. Want to see how well the board fares without this thread. The original reason we created it was to keep the influx of recommendation threads at bay, but in recent weeks, the place hasn't gotten much if any posts in it. Kinda frustrating -- for us and for you guys.

As such, I'm gonna lock this down for a couple weeks and see just how many threads get made and how they fare. If the place gets flooded by them, I'll re-open the thread and it'll be business as usual. If not, then we'll retire this for good.
