They are very different games and i think Dragon Age which I played and loved is more mainstream then Demon's Souls. Less people played Demon's Souls so less people voted for it, Gamespot played both and decided 1 was better then the other. I have not played Demon's souls yet but now i think i may have to.
Kinda reminds me of MW2 vs Killzone 2. You know... without the whole MW2 sucking part. They are very different games and i think Dragon Age which I played and loved is more mainstream then Demon's Souls. Are you kidding me?!? Demon's Soul is very innovative and challenging. It is probably the toughest game out there, without any doubt... I would commend those who disregard DS if they already played it. I will not be surprised if most of you guys out there who dismissed DS as a good game did not play it once.Clear and loudly: NO!

^^ Spoken for the truth.
Demon's Souls did something new to the RPG genre, which is probably the reason why it won RPGoTY. There's isn't really another game like Demon's Souls, and it does a great job at what it does.
Demon's Souls is the best game this year, and easily the best RPG. I wonder if the people who hate it have even played it.uyiop0t
I agree, lot of these naysayers either never played or don't have patience to play challenging games. No RPG lately has been so much brutally challenging, fun and rewarding in many years. Demons Souls for GOTY!

I wish everyone who hasn't played it could get a chance to play it and just see what it's really like, because there is no game to even compare it to. In almost every way, it does its own thing.

The only thing innovative it did was the message system, and that doesn't automatically = RPGOTY, neither does a hard difficulty, and when you look past those two things, you find a shallow story, ugly graphics, craptacular voice acting, and a lot of gameplay design flaws. And for the record, yes i played it, and i did also play DA:O and DA:O was superior to DS in every possible way

Is someone mixing up Opinion with Fact again? Tsk tsk tsk.

You must be playing different game. DS not only has better graphics, gameplay and combat is miles ahead of DA:O.I don't have either, but I'm getting Dragon Age: Origins. I was planning on getting Demon's Souls until I heard it was very hard, and you die a lot? Is this true? Maybe I'll try a demo if there is one, but still, I'm not a fan of the very hard difficulty.
You Know guys i like Dragon Age because of the dialogs and optional ways to do game , and gameplay was awsome . but maybe DS have a better gameplay or graphic but it's me i love this kind of game like masseffect, dragon age, heavy rain, fable 2inferna_hermitChances are that you are not going to like Demon Souls. Its not the game of stories and dialogs, it hardly tells any story. But if you are looking for game that is both challenging and rewarding, filled with great atmosphere, realistic combat and awesome boss fights, none of those games you mentioned come close to Demon Souls.
It definitely deserved it. It actually innovated that genre and was a superb RPG, very deserving of the praise it gets.
How was it innovative??? Fun-da-mental says that it had good atmosphere, good combat, and good boss fights. How is that an RPG??? An RPG tells a story, thats what its name comes from Role Playing Game, its inherent in the description. It definitely deserved it. It actually innovated that genre and was a superb RPG, very deserving of the praise it gets.

But they all voted for DA:O because DS is ps3 exclusive, hence they never got to play DS, thus they vote for DA:O, the game they have played.Come on more then 50% of people Vote for Dragon Age Origins , So don't tell me i'm upset because it's PS3 exclusive !

I agree that Demon Souls is an excellent and especially innovative RPG whereas DA:O pretty much does what has been done before. Nevertheless DA:O might not innovate but what it does do it does so perfectly, story, characters, all the things that are important for a good RPG DA:O does allot better than Demon Souls. The "Best Of" thing is an editors vote, it's their choice on who to give it to. As for the community of gamers surrounding GS they've clearly chosen DA:O over Demons Souls.Lone_Warrior_66
Dragon Age is also a multiplat from Bioware, which many people have heard of (as opposed to Atlus), and many people have not played Demon's Souls and some have tried it and found it too hard, so the amount of people supporting Demon's Souls isn't going to be nearly as large. That's why I'm glad these things aren't won by a popularity vote.
Please don't Call every Game Innovative so easily - Dragon Age is great and Demon's Souls is great too but in these games ,there is no innovation thing .name one inferna_hermitLeaving messages for each other while not playing the same game. Seeing how people who aren't in your game died, allowing you to avoid a similar fate. There's two. I'm sure someone could name more than that.
yes they are cool but not innovating to change games history ,like halo - in lots of games your health will be regenerate and halo is the game done it for the first time and change history of games ,and now you can see this creative mind in most of the games. and these things you said already done to other games like some webgames ,and don't do any revolution in games. innovation is somthing change the game and do revolution not improving games or changing some gameplay elements
Dragon Age is also known for its very hard difficulty and doesn't exactly appeal to the mainstream audience because of said difficulty and a geeky title like Dragon Age. You're equating it to a Modern Warfare 2 of RPGs, which it is not.F1_2004So true. People seem to think DA:O sold well, which it hasn't really. People also forget the superior 'PC' version (which is a lot different from the console versions) will most likely have been overlooked by a lot of people. So that version(PS3) you think is inferior to DS isn't the gold standard version. Plus this is gamespot, a game community website, it is ignorant to think people who come to this site don't know DS or haven't played it, especially those with a ps3. It is ignorant to think the voting for ps3 game of the year is fallible because the 'people haven't heard of it/played it' excuse. Though I will venture a guess that not a lot of people have played the superior 'pc' version of DA:O, hence opinions on it will be very varied, yet people still like it (it's getting more votes on the ps3 readers choice than DS). If people claim to not judge DS if you haven't played it, I claim you should not judge DA:O if you haven't played the 'pc' version.
That's why I'm glad these things aren't won by a popularity vote.uyiop0tAnd yet that's what democracy is about. In the end the game that gets the most votes is the most popular hence it IS a popularity vote. Anyways like I mentioned earlier the Gamespot editors decide who wins eventually, which is their good right. Readers choice gives the rest of us the chance to let our voices be heard ;).
