It's the PlayStation 3 board's version of our lounge.
Hey guys. Remember when Alex Navarro was playing Big Rigs and it made him leave the building only to collapse on the pavement? Sonic and the Secret Rings is making me feel that way right now. This is... the worst Sonic game I've ever played, and I'm only on the second world.JustPlainLucasLike I said in your blog, Sega needs to drop the Sonic franchise. :P
I'm an idiot; I just applied for more reviews. Well, at least I applied late, so there's a chance I won't get them. But naturally, there's a part of me that wants to, otherwise why apply?Daavpuke

[QUOTE="TacticalDesire"]Welcome back! How is life treating you?Hello! :P

Good good, been very hectic as you can probably tell since I haven't been posting much on GS. My diminished free time has mainly been spent gaming, and watching movies, less time browsing the internet. How is school going for you Rag, must be pretty crazy to be back at college now.

They just need to stop giving it to jackass studios that don't know what the **** they're doing with a once flagship title. I mean, did you ever see this amount of deplorable bull**** with the Advance and Rush games? Side scrolling Sonic games do well because the inherent gameplay of that particular perspective is easy to do well (although Sonic 4 is currently under debate), but you got Sega who has no idea what quality assurance means, so they just whore out their license to these experimentalists who throw whatever crap they have together and rely on the brand name to tell their ****. /rant Anyway, hoping Sonic Generations will turn out well.
 Loved that game. I still remember pissing off my friends who spent over 100 hours trying to beat the game the first try, and I did it 63 hours spread over 11 days. :lol:I had forgotten that grinding for suckerstone chunks was almost as hard as grinding for the pure bladestone. Oh Demon's Souls... I just love you so much.

[QUOTE="rragnaar"]Nice. Yesterday I got a Thief character up to level 70 in about 4.5 hours. I know this game too well.:PLightRI have 24 hours worth of playtime (or more) and I'm only 60 some. :l Stop dying.:P The key to leveling fast is conquering the Shrine of Storms early. The enemies drop more souls there than anywhere.
[QUOTE="ExoticAnimal"]Is it bad that my character is around level 350 but I still don't have the platinum for it? :P Only need 3 more trophies. :(rragnaarWhich trophies do you need? I assume the ring trophy is one since it was one of the hardest to get. One of them is the ring trophy. The one ring is where you go to the top of the nexus while having pure white character tendency and talk to the monument. I'm like one character level away from being pure I think. The other two are just upgrading a weapon with a bladestone and the moonlightstone.

Lol, Gears of War. I'll be wanting the actual new Gears of War and it's called Space Marine! Also, Arkedo Series, Ugly Americans, Bodycount (meh), Dead Island, Tropico 4 (though technically today), Serious Sam and those others that passed my inbox I forgot about. These are all coming in one week's time :(. Let's hope there's a stretch from there on out.[QUOTE="Daavpuke"][QUOTE="Metamania"]
September is not what I'm worried about. Only Dead Island and Gears Of War 3 are the only two games I'll be picking up, along with FIFA 2012. Just three games in that month. It's November that I'm worried about, because four games I haven't paid off yet will be available around that time and I have every intention of picking those up. Everything in October is just about paid for...I just gotta reserve Dark Souls and Rage in time to pick up their updated editions.

Is this Warhammer Space Marines game any good?
Yes, it's GoW, but more awesome. And yeah, Bodycount is meh, so I don't mind if it doesn't come in.The Baconing guys and Croteam (Serious Sam).[QUOTE="Daavpuke"]

My expenditure in games in the last 8 months has dropped from 60-100 a month to 0-10 and reviewing full priced titles for free does not suck. Hell, sometimes I feel a bit guilty, like with Mount & Blade. That game costs like 8 bucks and I played well over 100 hours on it; most of which after the review.

Yes, it's GoW, but more awesome. And yeah, Bodycount is meh, so I don't mind if it doesn't come in.Well, I tried out the demo yesterday. Felt like a wonky hybrid between a third-person shooter and a hack-n-slash. The more I played it, the more I veered towards the rental department. As for Bodycount, very much meh. Chris Watters, in his Gamespot review, was right - it's better off as a bargin bin game of sorts, but for the full price of $60? Not worth it!
The Baconing released today and as much as I want to play it I really don't feel like paying $15 when you know in like a month or 2 it will be half off.Dracula68meh game is meh :P

yeah, of course. it makes sense to an extent, but not when it becomes overcrowded with tons of releases and your game end up on the back of the shelf as a resultyeah, of course. it makes sense to an extent, but not when it becomes overcrowded with tons of releases and your game end up on the back of the shelf as a resultstarwarsjunky
It always drives me nuts because games that could easily sell at other slow times now get burried under the great titles.

Which is why it's important to only buy the titles you want to play and ignore the rest, buried or not.

I finally got the pure bladestone in Demon's Souls. Only took about me about forever to get it. Now onwards to the pure moonlightstone.ExoticAnimal
Since I never played Demon's Souls, what do both the pure bladestone and pure moonlightstone do? Do they increase your stats in some way?

You really should play it. Well I'm no expert but I'll try to explain it as best as I can. There are like 15 or so different types of stones that function as upgrades for weapons. You can find most of these stones from drops from killed enemies. Some are easy to find while others are very rare. There are three/four classes of stones depending on which stone it is but you just basically need a certain amount of each to fully upgrade a certain type of weapon. Each stone also has certain types of attributes that they boost. For example, the Bladestone weapon gives you an additional increases DEX bonus and lowers STR bonus while a weapon fully upgraded with Greystone gives you an increases STR bonus and eliminates DEX bonus. I'm only doing this to get the platinum trophy.Well, I'm officially effed. Two more games just came in, making a grand total of 5, so one of them will ultimately have to be late. If those that are supposed to be coming through the post come in, I'll just won't be able to get it done. That and the flame war erupting after I gave Deus Ex: HR a 79 got me kind of bummed right now. Luckily, Deftones is lifting my spirits.DaavpukeLink to your review? I don't really agree with the score either but I'd like to see why you gave it that. :P

Review scores: always causing unnecessary trouble.
Just ignore them. Arguing against them only makes matters worse, in my experience.

But "easily dismissed' hardly. It can count its lucky stars that the things it does right are the best around, because a game with any other name (such as the obvious Mindjack link) would get slammed in the ground. I think I justify my opinion elaborately, which in the end is a very positive review, so don't know why people would disagree to that. And no, at least I don't think so, since that's a vague topic and was also already revealed in previous games. This is a prequel after all. So fans of the series that played previous games wouldn't spoil anything and newcomers wouldn't know what extend to expect from it.

Saying that the name alone will keep this boat afloat means nothing to me. I played this game with no expectations. And instead of mentioning things you've already read I've got to agree with most things the user who commented on your review said. It was from one extreme (i.e. Jensen the douchebag) to the other.
As for he batteries there's never any incentive to get 5 of them at all. Since only the first one regens it's completely pointless to have all the other ones. As soon as your first two run out, pop some nutrients and on you go. Having the 5 spaces available is pointless.

I haven't played Deux EX HR yet, but everyone tells me it's a game worth checking out and it looks like you agree with that. But at least you're honest in seeing its shorticomings and making them noticeable in your review. Not that many reviewers do that...and you're right, reviewers these days give a lot of games a free pass because it's a game from a highly, well-known series, like Grand Theft Auto or Halo. It has to be given a high score because it's Halo or because it's GTA and that's despicable.

I'm no exception to that rule; I'm not flawless. But even my beloved Deus Ex had to get sized up. I approached it from two perspectives: 1) As a fan, could I let it slide, since this game is so fantastic? 2) As an uninformed source towards the franchise, could I forgive the horrible flaws? I had some troubles with it, but in the end both cases fell on "No". I would've felt like I would mislead my audience if I gave it a "great" rating, making them believe the game is more skillfully crafted than it is. But yes, you should definitely get this game, no question there. I merely suggest you show some patience on its horrible first impression. I actually started giving the game a 7 on GS, but it grew on me a ton. On Gs it has an 8 cbtw :).Metamania
