DMC4 OFFICAL THREAD

Background: Devil May Cry came out in 2001, It is considered by many to be the best 3D action game or in a close fight with Team Ninja's Ninja Gaiden. The basic premise of the entire series is the Son of Sparda(Dante) keeping shut the Demon Realm from coming into the human world, Solving his own past problems, and the most badass crazy antics.

Recap(spoilers)

DMC1 Introduced Trish, Vergil, and Dante to the world. The head honcho of the Demon Realm is Mundus who was trying to open a gate. Dante accepted the job when Trish came crashing in from the roof and told him that demon is resonable for the death of his Mother and Brother. But it turns out his Brother was still alive...As Nelo Angel. Who he fought multiple times through out the game. And Trish, Turned out to be created by Mundus and resemables Dante's Mother. Anyways, Dante defeat him, sends him back, and gets the girl.

DMC2 Why bother

DMC3 is a Prequel. It is the original story between Dante and Vergil(his Brother) and thier fateful encounter. This also introduced another leading Lady....Lady(Also known as Mary). The main villians in this is Vergil and Arkham. Vergil wants the sword of the Father...Sparda. Arkham wants power and to bring the Demon world into the human realm. Together with Vergil, Dante defeated mutant Arkham and then the finally fight became, the one destinied from the beginning over the father's Legacy. Dante one and Vergil was left in the Demon realm, at the end you seem him walking turns an outline of Mundus to fight him.

Done with Recap

DMC4, What is it about?

DMC4 Introduces a new lead(Dante is not replaced...but he has a cohost now...BOOOOO). The new lead is Nero. A young, eager, type of lad. He belongs the Order of the White Knights(Something like that). A Group of people who worship Sparda as a god, and kill demons. Some how or another he becomes inficted with a special arm. The arm is demonic though so it seems to be going bad over with his Order...Since they kill Demons. Dante comes there, attacks, and a swarm of demons then become unleashed upon the city. And that is the start

*If you want to discuss speculation, Spoiler tag it lol*

Characters

Dante, Lady, And Trish all Return. Nero, Boring new Girl(Kyrie), Creedo, A New Women called Gloria, and Angus all seem to be new characters.

A few differences

PS3 has HDD Install, reduces load time by a few seconds, while 360 doesn't. Both barely even have load times

Achievements, PS3 look to be tied to the game while 360 still have the unfied

Really it just comes down to controller perference. Which might I add, both controllers are completely customizable with button set up

No online, But online leaderboards and such.

Starts with too difficulty modes

Demon Dog, Aka Human Mode

Demon Mode

6 Total in all, Return of DMD for sure...Maybe even Heaven and Hell

Will have Bloody Palace!!!

21 stages

Weapons

Nero

Red Queen, Nero's Standerd Sword. Its pretty much the typical DMC thing. Except it now includings Reving, A form of power attack by hiting the Left Trigger or L2 at a percise moment or charging it up before hand

Blue Rose, Nero's Pistol. It is a magmam **** So its more Damage but slower fire compared to Dante's Twins. It also included a Charge shot by holding down the shoot button

Devil Brigger, This is Nero's right arm. It allows for special moves to be performed based upon the enemy encounter. Such as against Berial it allows him to slam him into the ground or blast him across the room. Or against your normal Fodder type creatures, A pick up, throw, power hit, slam, etc.

Yamato, It is a Samurai/Katana type sword. Nothing else will be said...Don't ask!!!

**More Weapons are planned**

Dante

Rebellion, Again, Like Red Queen, Typical DMC Sword. No Reving though, just standerd

Gilgamesh, These are pretty much a redone Bewoulf Gantlets from DMC3. They cover the firsts with metal and provide a face mask

Yamato, Again the Samurai type sword.

Pandora's Box, This weapon isn't a weapon itself but transforms into weapons. Its a Briefcase, which is capable when used right to turn into a Missle Launched, Chainsaw, etc. 7 different froms are to be included

Ebony and Ivory, Dante's Twin beauties aka Pistols. Fast shooting, low damage. His ****cal trademark weapons

Lucifer, This is a hard weapon to describe. Its kind of like a shoulder mount that creates Energy Swords. Kind of a readaption of what Vergil's Range weapon was in DMC3.

Shotgun, BOOMSTICK!!! No Demon Hunter is complete without one. Bruce Campell made that law.

Again, More weapons are to be in there.

Devil Trigger have recieved a massive upgrade also, instead of just being that more powerful which they are, they allow more to combos and such

Woo-hoo! Only one more week to go. :D

Is the Collector Edition only available through pre-order? If I can get it on store shelves then I'm definately getting that version.

I can't wait to start playing this game, check out all the achievements, and see how I stack up on the leaderboards.

I couldn't resist, it was too nicely setup. I'll play equal opportunist here though in that the 40% left to finish on NG2 is to see what to ripoff from DMC4. :P

There now is everyone happy?

At least we get them both in one year which is awesome anyway you slice it, ninja style or demon style.

FACT: DMC2 caused the bird flu. :P

I thought that DMC2 caused SARs, and that 50cent: Bulletproof caused the bird flu. I could be wrong though.

DMC2 Exists? !!! Not even Capcom seems to acknowledge it anymore:lol:

Its not that...its like 20-25years past the original DMC, It was actually a completely different game but they decided to just reskin it and slap DMC name on it, The story is bonkers and has no relation to really anything mentioned in the others ones. Even Capcom seems to avoid it

The bright side too it was...More Hot Dante ^_^ and Lucia was a great DMC Female lead. She just got put in the **** game was all

The gameplay portion is coming along a bit faster then I thought, I could have it up this afternoon but I need to study slides of plants first... I'll some how trick myself into thinking playing the DMC Demo again is studying

Also, Thanks for the compliments so far hehe, I want to see what it looks like myself when Im done with it all lol.

Wow, great stuff! That new footage looks really cool. Just one more week.

If I may add, check out some more Dante gameplay footage in case you haven't seen it yet. It covers all the styles. I definitely love how the player perfectly dodges all the enemies with Trickster. That's probably going to be my main style again.

Some may wonder about the controls for switching weapons and such. You now get three weapons and guns to switch on the fly, same way as DMC3 (R2, L2). For stylle you use the d-pad to switch them on the fly.

New video, awesome stuff (note, the guy playing isnt that great.)

dvader654

The D-pad to switch s tyles on the fly is going to suck, they should've use the shoulder buttons for that.

Is this thread going to be the GGD DMC4 tournanment? :P

No they shouldn't have, would you prefer the lock on was on the d-pad instead?

Use the lock on the R trigger, shoulder buttons to switch s tyles.

If they give you a command to change the controller settings, then that'll be fine, I'll find it faster/convenient to switch weapons on the fly with the shoulder buttons and getting ready for the next combo instead of pulling my thumb away from the stick and throw off my timing like reving up the sword and such.

Check out the menus for the PS3 version, shows online rankings and more!

dvader654

Is Human easy mode? Judging by the demo, it sure looks like it. As for the D pad, having all 4 s tyles makes sense but I thought you could pick only one s tyle before you start a chapter ala DMC3.

Shoulder buttons are for weapon switching. There is no where else to put the style change but the d-pad. And I would rather have them there over something else.

Found this on the PS3 boards, but was posted on NeoGAF. First day sales for DMC4

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9569856&postcount=228

First-day sales:

Wii SSBB - 500k (80% sell-thru)
Wii Family Ski - 10k

PS3 DMC4 - 140k (60% sell-thru)

XB360 DMC4 - 30k (60% sell-thru)

The 1UP review has been posted as well

The game gets an 8.5, and all the other reviews that I have read have pretty much reinforced that the gameplay is as solid as DMC 1 and 3. The most negative mention about this game is the large amount of backtracking. Basically, more than half way through the game, when you play as Dante, you pretty much re-tread all the ground that Nero has covered. This includes bosses as well.

The whole backtracking issue kind of hits a sour note for me, but it's somewhat forgivable because I'm absolutely addicted to this kind of gameplay.

500K sales in 1 day for SSBB?

On a side note it will be interesting to see how sales of DMC4 on the PS3, and X360 compare here in the US. Personally I think it will be almost the same.

The new hardest difficulty mode is called Hell or Hell mode. Every enemy kills you in one hit, they have the maximum life bars from DMD mode and you can only kill enemies when you have an SSS combo.

That is beyond insane. Hardest mode of any game ever?

dvader654

Better question is can anybody beat it? :|

By any chance do you have the list of all the difficulties? How many do they have? 4 or 5?

Oh, I have no doubts that we'll see people beat Hell or Hell mode. It sounds too masochistic for my tastes, but I'd like to give a go through once.

From what I read, the difficulty levels are:

Human

Devil Hunter

Son of Sparda

DMD

Heaven or Hell

Hell or Hell

Somebody over on the DMC4 boards has the strategy guide, and I believe that what the difficulty names are.

IF there are two gripes I have with DMC it's the leveling up and the backtracking. I hate going through the same level aover and over again and the repeat boss battles irks me quite a bit. I've almost beat DMC3 and the only thing keeping me from finishing it up is that I don't have much desire to refight bosses.

The game is so close to perfection I don't understand why Capcom refuses to clean up the few reamining issues.

Yeah it's a shame you can't play as Dante for the whole game at least in some manner. I'm expecting it to get a pretty solid 8.5 but it sounds like they kind of missed out on some more potential with this game. I wonder what kind of stuff they'll bring out for downloadable content later on down the road.

Only a few days away and many of my hopes and dreams come crashing down. I have been reading impressions from people that have played the whole game, seems like the hardcore DMC3 crowd will be not too pleased. Dante is playable for only about 5 levels, its all backtracking too, fighting all the same bosses Nero fought. There is no way to play the whole game as Dante, you can only play as him in the last few missions (or in bloody palace).

Nero only uses on sword and one gun the entire game long, what the hell. The character you play as for almost the enture game has less combat options than Dante in DMC1. Many the play the game say that Nero may get tiresome after a while for those that liked DMC3's weapon switching. They say when you switch to Dante the jump is almost jarring, he has a ton of moves at his disposal and in every level you find a new weapon. In no time Dante can be switching between 4 styles, 3 devil arms and 3 guns all on the fly, they say the stuff you can pull of is insane. Bosses get destoryed by Dante cause of his skill sets. But again its only a few levels.

Also there is a whole lot of backtracking and you fight the same few bosses 3 times each much like DMC1. So it seems like this is a game made for the DMC1 fans with a tiny extra thrown in for the DMC3 fans. I feel like it will fall short of the greatness that was DMC3.

dvader654

Dvader, are you sure Dante doesn't become a playable character from the start after you beat the game? 1up.com's review sure made it sound like that:

"That said, you'll definitely want to play through DMC4 more than once. Burying fan-favorite Dante so deep in the game practically guarantees that you'll want to tackle the quest a second time on a tougher difficulty, if only to explore his incredibly over-the-top arsenal...."

I've been reading people's impressions on the game as well, and they have said Dante only gets 7 missions for the game, and they retread everything Nero has gone through up to the point where you switch off.

I guess they want to emphasize Nero's Devil Bringer abilities, but hearing that he only has one sword and one side-arm sounds like a disappointing step back for the series, considering the gameplay options that were available in DMC3. Dante's missions should be a little bit longer, but I wish they didn't make you fight through everything twice in one playthrough, not to mention the inclusion of the "fight all bosses" mission, which I find to be a little annoying.

I don't want to jump to conclusions yet. I still want to play this game badly so I'll wait until I get this before I make any judgements. The gameplay still sounds like it will be fantastic, but some of the choices made for designing this game sound a little disappointing.
