I haven't really played that many stealth games, I think the only one that could be categorized as one is Assassin's Creed. It's alright, but could have been done better. I had a nicer time doing Thieves Guild quests in Skyrim ahaha..

I haven't played many stealth games to say my comment should even amount to anything. But if I was to go with one I'd say Hitman Silent Assassin. Haven't played Blood Money.

You are missing a lot. Play Thief trilogy. For story alone those games are worth it. Not to mention excellent gameplay mechanics and great ambient sounds that make atmosphere more creepy and immersive.

Many great games have been mentioned, so no need for me to name them again :) So my pick will be:

Styx - Master of Shadows.

Great stealth game, set in an awsome environment :)

Styx looked really good. Was planning to play it but completely forgot about it. Thanks for mentioning it. Will check it out ASAP.

@Cloud_imperium: I know I'm missing. I got my new HDD today though so its only a question of 'when' and not 'if'. I definitely want to play the older thief games. Just waiting for a really cheap sale.

Well you could say its the 2nd worst but that doesn't mean anything if the entire series is great...... relatively speaking.

He could say its the least best game in the series and it would still be the samething as him saying its the worst.....

As long as its not the worst game in the genre then everything is hunky dorey !!! Well.... up to point.

I am surprised that no one mentioned Metal Gear Solid 4 which is legendary.

All the MGS titles are amazing, but 4 is my choice because of the advanced stealth mechanics. I am going to complete my first playthrough of Ground Zeroes, at some point in time.

As to Blacklist? no i am not kidding at all.

Blacklist was a piss poor game that tried to push a multiplayer into a game that is and always should be single player and not some lame attempt at making another COD/BF cash machine.

Why do you think it had the worst sales of any Splinter cell game ever.

Conviction and the series didn´t have multi-player in the actual single player portion of the game.

They had it as extra which is how it should be, not forced on the people who play the single player campaign.

And where is the general consensus that Blacklist sold bad because of conviction? because that is not the case. Blacklist sold bad because it not only pissed on the fans of conviction and the new style Splinter cell took there but also on the org. fans who loved the single player game.

You do realise in Blacklist it wasn't forced either...... It was optional.... well except for 4 of the missions which were co-op mandatory. and the main missions were strictly single player.

Even if the single player was total co-op.... so what ? Saying something is bad before you've had chance to see how well its implimented is just wrong.

as for Conviction it sold better because it blindsided everyone....... Blacklist sold worse because nobody wanted to get Hoodwinked again..... which is a shame..... game was awesome and not enough people got to play it. :(

The way they did it made it forced, i know they tried to make the co-op and single player part more streamlined and weave it together. But by doing that they took away the most important structural part of a single player game like Splinter Cell. For most people who play a game like Splinter Cell, they sit down and expected it to be a journey, not a open book where you almost had no distinction between what was intended only for multiplayer/coop and what is the single player part.

But i know you only play games for the coop part so it´s ofcourse going to be hard for you to understand why it would matter that certain parts is blocked off, and why it wouldn´t be good if the entire game was only coop.

What distinction ? Gameplays just fine whether you do it alone or with Co-Op..... after all its a heck of alot more flexible than its predecessor's since you're not forced to play a specific way.....Well atleast up to a point..... it was game over if you get spotted in Grim's side missions.... and the main missions were more scripted than I prefered.....

Ghost, Run and Gun, Solo, Co-Op, whatever !

You get to play how you like !!! That can only be a good thing. Don't try to make distinctions for something that was deliberately designed to be open ended and experimented with....

The distinction that a highly story based game like Splinter Cell used to have. Splinter Cell up until Blacklist was based around a single player story.

And no you do not get to play how you like. Part of the game is blocked off to people who dont want to play co-op.

Do the missions matter in the long run probably not but they are in the single player part and that is enough, they made it so you have to get another person to play with to get those done.

And that is where Blacklist failed the most, Splinter Cell should have stayed a single player game.

MGS2: Sons of Liberty.

Extremely replayable game with a scoring/ranking system. It has also never been matched in many regards, and it still influences some games today.

@Jacanuk: I'd say Blacklist is second worst in the series. Conviction was worst. It was overhyped to death and final game was meh. Chaos Theory and Double Agent are best imo followed by Pandora Tomorrow. However, I didn't like First Person levels of Blacklist, it felt like an attempt to make dude bros happy.

Moral: I am not happy with current direction of Splinter Cell series.

Jacanuk!! What in the world are you talking about my friendo?

Multiplayer is not forced on anyone in single player, if you are talking about the side missions, you can do most if not all of them solo if you choose to, and they are not impossible to do on your own and they are most enjoyable doing them on your own.

I played through those missions on my own, twas a blast.

Splinter Cell will be whatever its developers want it to be....... you are free to hate it or like it as you please but nobody lied about what Blacklist was, you can't fault the game for being what the developer said it was and nobody said it was a single player game. Thats like saying Mario Party is bad because Mario is primarily a Platformer.

"Part of the game is blocked off to people who dont want to play co-op."

No its not blocked off.... its available after doing the prologue and if you don't want to play Co-Op then don't do the mission.

1.) Splinter Cell. (Truly epic this one is. Specially the 4th level where you have to infiltrate the C.I.A headquarters in Langley and you can't kill anyone and just have to rely on stealth)

2.) Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.

3.) Splinter Cell: Blacklist. (That level set in some warehouse in London is truly epic. Its a night level with ocean on one side and down pouring rain and you have to get past a lot of guys and not get spotted. I love the alarm system of Splinter Cell wherein complete stealth is the only way to go.)

4.) Hitman: Blood Money.

I know they are side missions, but they are planted straight into the main game. And you can not solo them they are co-op mission only. So sure you can complete the game fine without ever touching those, but for me its a annoying closed locked door where i have to find someone else to play with to open that door.

If those missions had been optional co-op or placed in their own setting instead of straight into the main game where every time you look at them you are reminded that "nope you cannot play these" It would have been fine.

Not that would have saved the game from being absolute terrible but at least they wouldn't force coop on you.

I liked Conviction, not as much as the earlier Splinter Cell games but it wasn't as bad as Blacklist.

And yep i do no like the heading they have taken, they have ruined the series and they should go back to what made Chaos Theory good.

What difference would that make ? All that means is you have to access the co-op mission from somewhere else..... the missions would still be there. None of the side missions even seem related to the main missions nor do they affect them (other than the extra revenue)......

And why do you care if a Co-Op door is locked ? You don't want Co-Op remember..... that door use useless to you.

And the Majority of the Side Missions are optional Co-Op

But most importantly... and I can not stress this enough......... Even if the game was the way you say it is then thats still doesn't make it bad....

You seem to miss the point here.

I play the single player to play it as a single player. I do not want to be locked out from part of that experience because its forced CoOp only. Even if those missions are limited and you can play the story to the end without them.

Your point is moot.... Blacklist is not a single player game nor was it advertised as such.....

The game has co-op in it and you shouldve known that when jumping in..... what next ? Are you gonna bash a puzzle platformer for having puzzles in it ?

You're not being fair !!!

I don't know what blacklist you and lulu have been playing, but the one i have been playing you canndo the side missions solo, i know this because i have done them solo. Only thing you miss out on doing the side missions solo is getting your partner to help You climb up various walls, which is no big deal as theres always another path to take.

So for the last time i am telling you you can do the most if not all the side missions solo or with co op, co op is not forced on anyone.

Oh ok i dont think he said those missions specifically, and its been a while since i played blacklist so i couldnt remember if all side missions had optional co-op or not.

Anyway there are still plenty of side missions that are optional co-op which help to stretch out the game a bit if not a fan of multiplayer.

Splintercell blacklist is a solid enjoyable stealth game its got to be one of the best of last gen.

@Lulu_Lulu: @ariabed: Glad to see other people also enjoyed this game :) The stealth is still there it's just that Conviction ruined the series image. And all the advertising I saw for Blacklist involved using mark and execute which obviously put off a lot of fans. But I can see the appeal for people who like to run and gun. That aside, the stealth is still as good as ever and I highly enjoyed it. I guess Splinter Cell just lost its charm. The story just isn't there anymore. But the stealth mechanics are still spot on imo.

These are two of the best. I was going to include Rainbow Six 3--one of my old time favs, but I played it more recently and dang I forgot how glitchy the ai can get.

I played hitman blood money for the first time when i was 12 or 13 and i really enjoyed it I barely knew english that time so it took me like a month to figure out and finish the game. But then i swear after that time i probably finished it 120 times, im not joking.. Mostly on pc but i played many times on ps2 too... I liked absoluton but for me BM was much more better. Another stealth game that I really enjoyed was velvet assassin, dishonored and all the splinter cells... I mean if a game comes up in the futre thats similar to blood money but with much more improved gameplay and graphics, it would b the game of the century for me, not the game of the year because I LOVE STEALTH!!

Your point is moot.... Blacklist is not a single player game nor was it advertised as such.....

The game has co-op in it and you shouldve known that when jumping in..... what next ? Are you gonna bash a puzzle platformer for having puzzles in it ?

You're not being fair !!!

How can the point be moot? you even mention the missions that is co-op only? so how can a opinion on that be moot.

Also it does not matter if the game has co-op in it, they problem with Blacklist is that they tried to mix it all together into one and make it seem kinda like a open world game would be, but they failed miserably because splinter cell is and never will be a open world game, its a story based game where it has a strong single player campaign and a coop/multiplayer part.

He's talking about the missions you get from Isaac Briggs..... I think theres 4 or 5 of them and they can not be done solo.

Yes those are the missions i am talking about.

They are made to be a part of the single player game and you are faced with them not even 5% into the game. For someone who is a single-player gamer and only that, its a slap in the face, here is something that clearly is made to be of the game experience but is blocked off because i do not want to find some random person to play them together with.

So take that and the fact that they tried to make Blacklist seem open world and not really work on the story, well it makes for a very very shitty Splinter Cell game.

Never played Thief so I can't comment on it, but for me it's a mix up between Splinter Cell: CT and MGS2: Sons of Liberty.

@Jacanuk:

No their not..... the single player missions are on the SMI...... non of them have co-op.

And if you're a single player gamer then why did you buy a game with Co-Op in it ?

And how did they try to make it seem Open World ?

when i remember things like having the ocp tool on the pistol to temporarily knock out electrics, grabbing enemies and interrogating them for intel, remote hacking computers with the goggles, the four different goggle modes, having binoculars / zoom, being able to pull guards over balconies, being able to re-collect sticky cameras that haven't discharged gas / smoke, having to use skill to hack instead of just holding down a button, being able to split jump in tight corridors and drop on unsuspecting enemies, open levels that you could tackle however you want instead of a linear path from one set piece to another with clues and guides plastered all over the UI etc etc. i can't help but feel that the stealth is just a shadow (no pun intended ;) ) of previous games

@Macutchi:

You can still knock out the Electrics with EMPs, you now capture enemies for intel, The Goggles four modes are now all rolled into one (and its ugly as ****), you can still yank enenies of balconies...... or was it open ledges..... I don't remember if its both or just the ledges, how do you recollect a sticky camera from the Ceiling ? You can stil drop on baddies but you can't hop ang hang in between two walls, Blacklist was open ended and you could tackle it however you wanted, and its a lot more vertical too. The exceptions being a few areas in the Main Missions, all the side missions were nice big and open ended.

Co-Op replaced everything that didn't make the cut..... ;) Blacklist casts its own shadow Now.

@Lulu_Lulu: you only have a very limited amount of EMP grenades though, the pistol let you use it wherever and as much as you wanted. i'm almost certain you couldn't grab a regular enemy and interrogate them. could be wrong though ;)

agreed the sonar goggles are a simplistic version of the other modes. you can't pull enemies over edges you can only knock them out on the ledge (again almost certain that was the case). you don't have to shoot sticky cams on ceilings, in the early games you could fire them on walls and use them to scan ahead, then recollect them and use them again.

and we'll have to agree to disagree on the open ended-ness of the levels, i can't remember any where you could turn back and go round another route i just remember forward progress all the time. it is a while since i last played it so i guarantee everything i said is entirely accurate and i'm not saying my opinion is right, it's just how i feel about the game. but you and i have debated all this before ;)
