And if so, what did you think of it? I thought about trying to download it tonight, but it looks like the marketplace is suffering some networking issues.
(By the way, the demo is 1.3 GB! :o)

I've been downloading it for 2 hours and Im only 50% done
I've already decided Im staying up though but f'ing Microsoftneeds to get their sh*t together. I paid 50$ for their service and they cant getthe sh*tto run properly.
It's downloaded for me. But it's past midnight, and I'm overly susceptible to scares. I'm not playing it until I can fill my room with daylight.Oilers99
I just started playing it... and words can't describe how much better this looks than anything I've seen before it. It starts with you swimming up to the surface after the plane wreck and the fire and water effects destroy anything I've seen previously. I'll post more when I'm done.rragnaar
Awesome, dude. How long did it take for you to download it?

Wow. Took me an hour at most to get the whole thing. Maybe there's better server support in Canada?
OMFG, I had no idea there was a demo out. I have Bioshock tracked here on GS, so I figured they would have announced it or something.Darth_Tyrev
It's a Sunday, and this came out of nowhere. It's not really a surprise Gamespot didn't have anything up about this.
I know it sounds like I'm going overboard... but this is the Game of the Freaking Year. Everything else can pack up and go home.rragnaar
Kinda always suspected that it would be. You can only hear ceaseless, showering praise for so long before you wonder if anything else will hit anywhere near that level. And this is also the first game in a long while that I feel has a shot at getting a ten from Gamespot.
wow....my words wont do the game justice
the atmosphere and immersion is just amazing, you have to think and use your surroundings to gain the upper hand. There werent any "holy **** moments but the cutscenes were masterful
Im playing this game everyday until the 27th/28th, I love this game
This game has that special feeling. After playing the demo I'll call this right now: Bioshock GOTY 2007. The last time I felt like this playing a game was when I played Halo for the first time.
Btw, did anyone else notice all the Fallout references?
Wow. I didn't get a chance to finish the demo (I had to stop right as I came across a fire plasmid) but based on what I played, Bioshock is definentely a strong candidate for GOTY.
Everything about the game is incredibly well done. The designers have done a great job of giving the city its own personality (and the personalities of your opponents and ally come across very strongly).
Yeah I loved the demo as well. Here are my impressions on it that I posted in another thread:
Well ok it might not be the best game I've ever played but it certainly is pretty damn awesome and that's certainly fine by me. Graphically this game looks fantastic with some top notch water effects along lighting and shadows. The Unreal Engine is put to good use in this game. The game runs very smoothly as well. The weapons seem very satisfying from smacking someone upside the head with a wrench to zapping a couple of baddies with lightning, especially if they are in water, to setting them ablaze with fire and watching as the poor saps health burns away. The controls seem to work very well and I found them to be quite easy to manage and intuitive in no time.
I really dug the whole '60s vibe and the ambiance of the game along with the music was very well done. The story seems like it will be very interesting and well-written form the little I expierenced in the demo. There also looks to be some twisted bits of humour here and there like when you acquire the fire ability it shows a twisted ad-like explanation of your new found power.
Hacking into the bots and security systems was pretty cool if not maybe too easy. You simply flip panels revealing pieces of a 'pipe' like elbow joints and stuff and try to guide it to a selected location before a meter representing the pipe flow reaches it's end. Each section of pipe the meter reaches makes that section of pipe unchangeable by the user although it doesn't really go that fast so you'll generally have ample time to guide the pipe to the right location.
Overall it seemed a bit on the easy side for me on the Medium difficulty setting but it is the beginning of the game, or at least I assume it is from how it begins, so it will interesting to see how it scales up throughout the game. The demo showed three difficulty settings with Easy, Medium, and Hard which was locked.
Only 8 days left until this game hits. I'm really looking forward to it.
Hmm, so that guy talking about a demo coming on the 13th was telling the truth.
And an XBL demo is fine and good, but why isn't there a PC demo? I can't imagine it would take them that much longer to make a PC demo... or maybe the people who are buying Bioshock on the PC are already hyped enough.
.....There's a BIOSHOCK demo on Live?!!!?
Oh **** YES! A triple A game with a demo, unreal.
Dude thanks for the heads up, downloading ASAP! I cannot wait for this game man, one of my most-wanted games in a looong time. There's actually a ton of huge must-have games I can't wait for, what a year this is for gaming. Best year since 2001? Could be.
Kind of surprised there is a demo. Supposedly the PC demo will be out later in the month. Not that I really need it, though - I'm getting BioShock.
WTH! Its taking a damn long time, its getting there though at 74% :P
Judging by people's impressions, and seeing the new trailers the game looks like the second coming, very impressive indeed as seeing alot of people in this forum are hard to please in the first place.
Great demo, what a tease. Rapture is incredible - the world Irrational created is so amazingly detailed, and I love how often the environment is used as a storytelling device. I just want to soak every room in.
Gameplay looks to be really fun as well with tons of choices and strategies you'll be able to pursue. Extra points for having one of the coolest intros to a game I can remember, the whole demo had excellent pacing throughout. Sound is really exceptional as well.
Playing through it made Bioshock jump to the top of my most wanted list. Thank goodness it's almost here :D
Count me among the impressed. It really is an amazing demo and will no doubt emerge as one of the top five games of 2007.
I'm looking at some of the game video's, his hand powers (dunno what they're called :( )look similar to HL2's gravity gun. I must get a new pc soon! darn!cifru
His hand powers are plasmids. Downloaded the demo last night and played it with the lights off. One of the most atmospheric games I have ever played. Great use of music and lighting.
Man, I don't know if I even want to download a PC demo if they make one... it'll just lessen my anticipation. Although I suppose I should try it just to see what kind of settings I'll be able to have (probably low, lawls), so I don't have to do all that experimentation with the full game.Funkyhamster
The last thing the demo will do is lessen your anticipation unless you are expecting sex in a box. Its really incredible. I know a couple other guys who have downloaded the demo and it has turned all of them (and obviously me) into Bioshock evangelists.

Agreed, it IS one of the most atmospheric games out there, and it had great use of music and lighting as well as you have said. This game will definately be one of the biggest games of this year, for sure.
