I'm sure most of you guys with a PS3 are already downloading, but I figured I'd make a thread while waiting for my slow-as-molasses DSL to download it.
Anyway I'll post some of my impressions here once I give it a playthough. :D

It's not just you.
I have a very fast connection and it's taking hours to download the demo from the PSN store.
Christ, Sony sucks at this whole online thing.
At least we finally got a real honest-to-god quality demo from the PSN.
I don't want to spoil it for anyone so ill keep it with as little detail as possible. I DL it today and let me tell you... I WOULD CAMP OUT ON THE BIGGEST LINE EVER for this game. and i don't EVER do that... (except for when madden 07 came out and i was over at Gamestop at midnight to get it). Anyway i played it and if you loved GOW and GOW2... THIS IS FOR YOU BIG TIME... and even if you didn't like it (lol.. the very few of you) you will still like this game. game play is awesome.. and its real time gameplay graphics is just as beautiful as its cut scenes and anything else you have seen from this game. Plus the chick is really HOT... even though i ama straight girl...and my boyfriend also seems to have enjoyed that part of the game  it is still awesome as heck....and fare warning.. this DEMO will leave you REALLY REALLY HUNGRY FOR MORE...REALLY HUNGRY!punkybruiser83This lady is enthusiastic. :P
Good to see positive impressions from, you know GAMERS. 1 more hour and i get to go home and download this.
Dvader, I'll steal your All pro 2k8 playing soul if you aint carefull.

Same here. My download speeds are insane, but I get spotty results from the PSN. The MGS4 trailer downloaded for me in no time flat, but it took hours to download the Sigma demo.
I reckon that the servers are probably getting slammed by pent-up demand for something on the system, though, so it'll probably get better as the day wears on. I'm just pissed that I can't check it out until tonight (stuck at work).
Post some impressions if you have the time. I'd really like to hear them, because I know how much you've enjoyed games like Ninja Gaiden and God of War.
[QUOTE="F1Lengend"]g2g but the game is really good especially after 2 or 3 play throughs and learning all the moves. i'll post more later dvader654
:)
To be honest I was expecting people to not like this demo.
The gaf thread is full of glowing impressions. And lovely screens too. Also it seems better to try and learn the counters and combos first rather than just trying to mash you way through the enemies.

Hmm ... i haven't had any problems DL it .. i will say that it took me about 15 to20 minutes to DL Heavely Sword. But still its still better than waiting for DNAS to untangle its tight ropes while you are waiting to play Socom...and all servers are down...
And not to be a "FanGirl' but its the PS online thing.. Is free... Unlike another console ehem! (::coughs:: "XBOX") either way.. in defense of the XBOX... their online its pretty good ... then again you get what you pay for.

Why are we talking about Xbox Live ARCADE(XBLA), this is the HEAVENLY SWORD DEMO thread.Everyone can take their whinning about slow downloads to another thread, background downloading is there for a reason, jesus.
Right now is peak traffic time on the internet, that goes for XBL, PSN and the whole of servers and hops in america.
Had no problems downloading, a bit slower than usual though at 30 minutes. The demo itself is extremely short at about 2 areas and seems to be the same E3 demo they showed off at last years E3 but minus the gladiator battle arena. Difficulty-wise whatever the demo is on is a bit less difficult than Spartan mode in God of War but more than normal, though unlike God of War it's not about a few enemies dealing lots of damage but a ton of them dealing a little bit at a time.
It uses the same dial-a-combo system as GoW but has 3 on the fly style/weapon switches effectively seperating your attacks into light, medium and hard hits. There's no jump button as that's worked into the combo system itself, and like Devil May Cry, there's no block button either. Instead you have to block the correct colored attack with the proper stance, so a blue attack has to be blocked by the speed stance, orange with the power stance and Red is unblockable. Counters can be done by pressing the triangle during a succesful block. There's an orange circle which fills on the interior of her lifebar which represents some sort of special move trigger and once it hits an orb you can use the circle to deal out a special finisher. The right-analog is a dodge roll as is usual for games like this.
For added effect, the X button grabs and throws just about anything on screen except for the arena itself and pressing R1 allows you to steer thrown objects in slow-motion. Given that there are no orbs of health or otherwise, it's all about finishing each 'stage' of combat to move on to the next where it seems to fill up your life.
Overall it looks, sounds and plays really great, though there is an issue with sound skipping near the action sequences on the rope and some tearing on the models in the cutscene.
I downloaded the mgs trailer, RE trailer and HS demo all at nearly 1 meg a second. But thats just me.
Anyway, Lets start by saying the graphics are really impressive. The scene you start off at allows you to try a few practice swings before heading down to the enemies. At first I thought she (forgot name) didnt move as smoothly as I would prefer but you get use to it and then it starts looking pretty smooth especially when you hit some nice combos. The enviorments look awsome, and the character models and shadows are awsome as well.
The music in the game also rocks, notably when you are in the menu and you can hear the sounds coming out of each speaker in a sequence. The batlle music is pretty good, althouth at times (QTE moments) the music stutters. But the music blends in nicely with the fight scenes.
The combat is obviously the meat of the game, and overall I found it very enjoyable. Its not perfect, and at times its frustrating, but similar to GoW its fluid and pretty deep, although not near DMC/Gaiden. The biggest thing is the lack of a defend button. They have a counter button which is great, and an evade button, but no defend button. It requires you to be on your toes at all times. On my first play through, I was getting tossed around a LOT, but on my second play through, it was much better. The difficulty is still pretty challenging, although i might enable Hard mode when playing the full game. You get tossed around a lot but its countered by the extreme amount of health you have.
Theres three "stances" or "Stiles" to work with and each is pretty damn cool. I havent mastered the combat, but Its really fun to switch between the Stiles. Theres also no jump button but on my second play through, I realized there is an ariel stance so that is ment to replace the jump button I suppose, plus the level design isnt ment for a jump button as far as I can tell. The fighting mostly consists of pressing Square and mixing it up with the coutner (triangle) button. Also, holding L1 (speed) and R1 (power) you can create more moves. There seems to be a freaking crap load of moves especially, not to mention most moves are disabled in the demo. The ariel moves seem really tricky to pull off cause it involves using the six axis while pressing and holding buttons. I couldnt quite pull them off as I had to go but it went something like, Hold L1 then press Triangle, shake six axis, Hold R1 Square, Square, or similar combinations. You can also pick people up dead people(and weapons, like double dragon) and throw them with X and if you hold X you can guide the flying object with the sixaxis via slow mo. Pressing circle performs grab moves but i didnt test it out to much, but i only saw 1-2 grab moves when i did it. (theres also a command list that teachs you moves).
Its hard to tell whether this game will get repetitive but the very short trailer left me wanting a hell of a lot more, especially when those three guys came in, and also the video of the Fat boss guy seems really fun. (if you dont press anything at title screen). Its really, really similar to GoW but after being semi burnt out on that series, I found a lot to enjoy in this and cant wait to get my hands on it.
Edit: damn you atlus, Lol, but ya, that was a better sum up then mine lol

 Agree...my post taken back... and for the You Tube thing.. i only thought it was funny does not express my feelings towards the XBOX since i have played on it and used XBLAbefore ... I like it.
But back to heavenly sword... this demo was the biggest and best tease i have ever experienced.
Well its been T-plus 5 hours, and the damn thing still isn't done. It's a good thing we're getting FiOS installed on Monday.
Anyway...DeanoC had mentioned that if you want to see what its like facing one of the tougher enemies, then you should intentially miss the last action button sequence when coming down the ropes (apparently it makes you kill some dude, if you miss then you fight him).

As far as I can see, that Axe guy Nariko would normally kick off represents the third type of baddie you face and also uses the first Red (unblockable) attacks. He's the only one in the demo that's a real pain to beat while you learn the mechanics (I had to kick him off to progress at first), but after you understand the counter-system I've been knocking him off the cliff almost inadvertantly during battle.
There are 3 of them together later on, but unfortunately they ended it right there. It would have been a perfect opportunity to really test the mechanics out battling 3 at the same time in an enclosed area. I hope they go the Ninja Gaiden route by placing higher tier enemies in place of lower ones as you ramp up the difficulty.
Well I got played the demo simply its great, I can't wait for the game now! Yeah it was short about 5 miniutes honestly, but if you let the game run with out starting it up it shows more of the game even though you can't play those parts. Overall I think it looks fantastic and plays very tight I'm impressed. MS was dumb to pass on this title, it could have been their GOW though its a good deal different its amazing really.
PS this has gone right to the top 5 must have PS3 games now!
I am so glad to see all the good feedback, a lot of the gameplay vids made the combat seem like it would be repetitive.rragnaar
The average dudes arent the most enjoyable enemies, but you still have to pay attention to counter properly based on coloured attacks, but when you face the harder guys (ie, the axe man) its a lot funner. I cant wait for boss battles. I cant even imagine fighting the 3 axe men right before the demo quits, NOooooooooo! damn I wanted to play that
Yea the combat is deeper than god of war, and just comparing normal difficulty of god of war to this, heavenly sword is harder.
Man this game is gorgeous on 50" inches of HD. Im not worried about the minor framerate and tearing as its been confirmed this build is from GDC and not E3 where the game showed no framerate or tearing issues according to those who played it at this E3.
man I've got to apologize to Ninja Theory, I wrote this off as a GOW ripoff and I was wrong (for judging a game before I played it and because the game is awesome). The graphics and animation are insane, the movements on Narikos face are just a real testament to the power of the PS3. The enviroment was gorgeous, I had to stand still and just stare at it for a minute. Im willing to say it's more impressive than Gears. The combat feels a little similar to GOW but the combat is actually quite different. The game is filled with nuance, dodging, combos, counters, blocking, and the three styles all come in play and all of it is so satisfying.
If you guys want a comparison with GOW think about it like this : GOW is a meat headed boxer or wrestler, nothing subtle just brutal fighting and a lot of violence. HS is more like a martial arts fighter or samurai, to get the best attack its better to wait for your opponent to come at you and the unleash your fury
I was expecting this game to play like God of War but its just cannot be compared because the battle system is very different to that of God of War. The game looks great at the Demo was more in line of a teaser than an actual demo for it was so short. The lack of jumping feels awfully wierd. On the upside of things it shows that the game would not involve platforming.
I think it's an awesome demo and the finished game is going to be an absolute blast to play. While some people have been calling this game "Goddess of War" I think that's an inaccurate and unfair statement. If I was going to compare it to anything I would call it an interactive version of a wire-fu film like Crouching Tiger or Hero; this game has a kinetic energy and visual flare that makes it something completely unique to the genre.
It's also not a button masher. Even at this early stage of play the enemies are not pushovers and seem to block as much as the heroine. The counter system is simple yet requires precise timing and the special meter is a delicious way to finish off opponents with violent, cinematic flare. The stance switching is likewise simple to pull off yet the combat requires you to consider enemy position and attack patterns before launching an attack.
Overall I'm very impressedas Heavenly Sword looks to carve out its own niche in the action/adventure genre. Other than the quicktime events that allude to GoW, this game has its own flavor and style that should make it one of the better action games of '07.
I sincerely cannot wait for the full game to be released.
Incredibly short and like most demos a bit on the easy side but the battle system has a lot of depth even though it only has a fraction of the moves of the full game. I was thinking Heavenly Sword would have a God of War level combat system but it is more demanding, in part because one can't interrupt attacks with the nonexist block button (blocking is done automatically when Nariko is in neutral, though everything can't be blocked). The ragdolling of the corpses and the fact that they stay where they fall unless they are knocked aside or something makes for some pretty nice looking battle scenes (getting forced back while blocking and accidently kicking a corpse over the ledge is kind of cool). I think the ability to throw stuff is brilliant. Knocking down a group of enemies with a barrel or clocking somebody with a shield is fun stuff.
I wish I was able to face off against more than an axe-wielder and a bunch of swordsman in the demo, but I guess the main point of a demo is to sell people on a game, and HS's demo convinced me it is a must buy. The only issue I had were some framerate issues and the occasional glitching of corpses, and I make allowances for such issues in demos.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, someone high up at Sony has an incredible eye for talent. They pick teams with undistinguished histories and then the guys come out with kickbutt stuff.

I hear you, most days I'm behind a computer, but today I'm working from 8-6 out in the heat, and the whole state of Idaho is on fire, which means that in addition to being hot, I can't breathe... I get an A+ for whining though.
Southern Idaho? If so, it's probably the same crap that's suffocating us over here in Cache Valley.

It's the combination of Cache County (Logan, Hyrum, Smithfield, etc) in Utah and Franklin County (Franklin, Preston, Whitney, etc) in Idaho. It's a high-elevation valley, so whenever there's a wildfire in the area (and there have been plenty), the entire valley just becomes a giant bowl of smoke.
Just a couple weeks ago, I was out on a truck run at work, and watched an entire wheat field spark up on a hill, on our way out of Preston. Got some pics of it on my cell phone, pretty nasty stuff.

I just played the demo. I'm so sold on this game its ridiculous, awesome stuff despite being the shortest demo I ever did see.
The combat feels like it requires a lot more strategy than God of War, and it has a kind of balance to it; it doesn't feel cheap like some action games can that try to be super hard. I kept saying to myself "Oh, I just caught a beatdown because I was being stupid" instead of "Oh, the AI is just being lame". I can't wait to get into it more.
Graphics.....wow. The environments look great, but the character models in the cutscenes are incredible. The beginning with whats her name and the other chick, it looks real. Their facial expressions are insane.
I'm hoping they're going to have some variety to the game as well, not just all action. It would be nice if they did the GOW thing with it and have a nice mix of action and adventure/puzzles. Anyway, I'm sold on day 1. This game was right up there on my list of reasons to pick up a PS3 now instead of later, and it looks like its going to be a winner.
