I wouldn't mind a bit of girl on girl but making male Shepard gay really takes away the badassness of him
What? Gay men can be as badass as heterosexual men. I don't think the sexual orientation of your character, which is only displayed in a tiny fraction of the actual game, has any influence on the decisions you make throughout the story. Besides, it's up to you if you want to make your male Shepard gay or not.I wouldn't mind a bit of girl on girl but making male Shepard gay really takes away the badassness of him

Marlon Brando, The Godfather himself, was gay or at least bisexual.
Dont let the media trick you into thinking all gay guys are feminine.
I don't know how I feel about this. On ME2 I would go around talking to everyone after a mission. I got locked into Jack and didn't know it. If this happens and you can't back out of it, I'm going to be upset. So Bioware retconning characters to suck up to the gay crowd? I really hate this era of being 'politically correct' it's not right. You can't just change a characters design because a gay person was offended. This is just as bad as prejudice. Your thoughts?TankBusterJenn
What are you talking about? Did you even read the link you posted?
What makes you think your straight Shepard would all of a sudden become gay and attracted to Garrus in ME3? He will only become gay if YOU play it gay.
TBH, if you find yourself involved in a gay romance with some dude (or a girl if you are a girl) then that means the answers YOU chose led you down that path. (no pun intended) So maybe you were unintentionally flirting with Garrus. Maybe you had feelings for him all along.

I don't really know, I find it kinda hard to watch the badass moments with a straight face, knowing that Shepard's most probably the catcher of the couple (even worse if the pitcher is Wrex, ugh).
But to each his own, right? I don't mind having this in, but I'm definitely not going to experiment with it.
as long as they dont pull the same crap anders did on da 2 i dont care, its annoying having the only healer in your party to be gay and crying all the game
"you rejected me im so hurt you are not gay no one understands me QQ"
How will the geth fit into this? Will we finally get to experience the love that dares not compute its name?

The, Typical Hetero Male response Girl Girl Yess! Boy Boy No!
Mewi
lol thats exactly what I was thinking XD
It's the natural response, to a straight male the idea of 2 guys doing it isn't appealing at all because we aren't attracted to them, women are attractive though so 2 women = more attractive than 1. I totally support guys being gay if thats what does it for them but that won't stop the image of male gay sex turning my stomach. Now I can be a gaymer, sweet :D. Seriously though, its cool that everyone can play as his or her sexual orientation, plus sex is awesome, so the more the merrier!!!!
I just think they should have added homosexuality in the first game rather than in the third and last sequel. Now I can be a gaymer, sweet :D. Seriously though, its cool that everyone can play as his or her sexual orientation, plus sex is awesome, so the more the merrier!!!!

Going by the responses from homophobes, then the answer should be pretty easy. There are a lot of homophobes in the media and all through out life, the fuss over the mild, and frankly tacky, romance scene in ME1 was annoying.
Now imagine if that had been done with a homosexual angle, the haters would have ranted their homophobe nonsense with things like video games promoting what is little more than just how someone is born and comes to terms with who they are when they're older.
It doesn't bother me that ME3 will allow the option for players to have their Shepard - male or female - as either hetro, homosexual or bi-sexual. I think that's great and allows the player the choice in how they wish to define the Shepard they're playing as.
More games should allow that choice instead of forcing the hetrosexual only route.
Being homosexual or bi-sexual isn't a choice, it's just one of those things that is part of a person's individual development from birth.
Finally, I've dreamed about Wrex's burly arms and sharp teeth for too long unrequited.
But yeah, this is great. My Dudeshep has eyes only for Tali, but for those who want a gay romance this should be good news. Really should have been in the game from the first, but better late than never.
"Mass Effect 3 executive producer Casey Hudson has revealed in a tweet that ME3 will feature same-sex romances for both female and male Commander Shepards. Previous games in the series only offered girl-on-girl sex scenes for the stated reason that ?if you?re picturing a PG-13 action movie, that?s how we?re trying to design it.? Which, if it?s true, is a comparatively innocent reason for the noninclusion of male homosexuality. Less innocent reasons might include the fear of tarnishing the game?s macho figurehead, but ANYWAY! Let?s all assume Shepherd was neck-deep in the closet for those first two games and move on. Thanks to Gay Gamer for the news."http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/05/16/fabulous-massles-me3-will-have-man-love/ I don't know how I feel about this. Regardless, if I'm uncomfortable with the subject matter or content if it makes a meaningful stride to push medium foward as true valid form of artistic expression why hold it back, I honestly feel gaming shouldn't have any more restraints put upon it than movies, film, television, music, or books..
This is going to go over quite well. The Southern U.S.A is going to vote Mass Effect 3 game of the year.
Judging by all the talk about the relevance of universal romantic relationships in games, especially in the ME franchise, Bioware is so obsessed with romance that it should just straight out go ahead and make a dating sim. Hell, make it a hentai one. I don't care about romance that much in games, and if you haven't noticed, some people are aromantic (not interested in relationships), asexual (not attracted to either gender), or both, so don't alienate those people either. Perhaps a lot of people overlook the fact that there are more people than just heterosexuals or those that stand for each letter in the LGBTA alliance. There should be two more A's in that movement's name, and it would not leave anyone else out.
Oh, and if you didn't notice, I was being sarcastic about the dating sims part. In fact, I don't like pornography being promoted more and more, so I'd rather see legitimate "dating sims," like ones that involve all the tiny details regarding being in a relationship with someone else. But seriously, people need to move beyond games that offer nothing but violence as interactivity.
Nothing ground breaking, I remember being able to kiss boys in Bully, in fact I remember there being an achievement for it, anyhow same sex relationships were already in ME 1 & 2, I don't see why this getting multiple threads. And I remember Mass Effect 2 giving you quite a few choices to your inter-species romances, about the last thing left for ME3 to accomplish is allowing you to develop a romantic relationship with a Geth bot... or a maybe a Reaper :P surprise us BioWarelamprey263Yep. If Bioware were smarter, it would move more towards the direction that Planescape: Torment took, which was not so much another "saving the world" plot. The only difference between ME and Bioware's fantasy-themed games is that you're "saving the UNIVERSE," not the world, which isn't such an innovative approach.
I just got into the whole PC gaming/steam thing. I am finishing up Half life 2. Never played ME or ME2. It is on my list of games to play eventually. I usually wait until the games r real cheap before I pick them up. I got too many games to play right now anyways.
I am not really interested in sex in video games. Sex in real life is great! If the video game has a great story line then whatever. I really don't care if they put options to be homosexual in video games. I think I agree though that in media they make homosexual releationships more prevelant then they actually are. It does just seem like every sitcom has to have a gay couple in it anymore.
Straight guy here. My take on it: Gays, straights, bisexuals, whatever. We're all people. We all have equal rights as human beings. Don't want your character to be gay Don't make him/her gay Simple as that. People who are so obsessed with keeping homosexuality out of their media are obviously closet-gay, and don't want anything on-screen to stimulate their inner homosexual; call it a fear of their inner self. Anyone comfortable with their sexuality, hetero or otherwise, has the ability to tune out any form of romance or sexuality which doesn't appeal to them. Anyone who can't do this and claims to be 100% straight/gay/etc is lying to themselves. Also, there have been many gay badasses (or otherwise awesome people) in recent and not-so-recent history, from legends like Freddy Mercury (RIP) to people like Sir Ian McKellen, Neil Patrick Harris, and Antoine Dodson. In the end, theself-proclaimed spokesperson for the "Straight Male Gamer" demographic is as follows:

I really don't have a problem with it, the Fable games have same sex so its nothing new. As long as ME3 is good which I'm pretty sure it will kickass.
People have a right to not follow the liberal/far-left stance on topics like sexuality, racism, etc. As much as I do not want to see certain groups/categories of people suffer, political correctness being pushed too far is just as bad as doing absolutely nothing about a certain issue. Conservatives deserve some respect, too. Taking and throwing away all of our traditional values is preposterous.
It seems that once society became very secular, it has clouded the judgment of many people living in this world. I blame supporting/promoting secularism way more than religion for many of today's problems. And when you factor in the fact that in each culture (pre-Modern, Modern, postmodern) has constantly changed its values, attitudes, etc., you can honestly say that many people are too unsure of what this world really needs. If morality is relative, then how can you expect everyone to admit that pursuing equality in every way (Communism/Socialism) is not the most fitting proposition for mankind.
Going back to this topic, people ought to be courageous to make games that go against the general public's view on morality, philosophy, religion, etc. And maybe, just maybe, games about decision-making should offer multiple viewpoints, not just that of a liberal, but a conservative, too. And anything in between. That, I believe, would be a great compromise and an excellent way of allowing people to always look at things with an open mind.
Judging by all the liberal support, I guess that encouraging alcohol abuse and drug use would be great in a future ME game. After all, it's set in the future, and drugs should still exist. So, why hasn't a game tried giving people these other choices? Oh, right, because it's controversial. Hmmm...and this is different from the other liberal viewpoints how exactly? While I may not be the best advocate of equality, I certainly wouldn't mind seeing games truly push complexity by combining lots of choices with that of every possible topic, including religion, philosophy (hedonism, nihilism, existentialism, egalitarianism, etc.), politics, mythology, psychology, science, etc. Why should a game conform to only one viewpoint? Where is all the good in that? ME3 should really, really strive to be as "universal" as you can ever get.
Nice straw man argument there, bro.Judging by all the liberal support, I guess that encouraging alcohol abuse and drug use would be great in a future ME game.Mawy_Golomb
How is adding the option to play as a gay character conforming to one viewpoint? It sounds like they added another option. This is a roleplaying game. BioWare didn't make Shepard gay They gave players the option to make the character in a role playing game make a choice about his sexuality. I, for one, play on hooking up with Liara again, because my version of Shepard likes hot blue alien ladies. Someone else here will hook up with Jack or Tali or who knows what else. In the end, this is one more choice in a game that is all about choices. They aren't imposing a worldview on anyone. If you don't want your character to be gay in the game, it is as simple as playing him straight.Judging by all the liberal support, I guess that encouraging alcohol abuse and drug use would be great in a future ME game. QFT. For years I was never able to figure out why some people were so vehemnent about making life as unpleasant as possible for homosexuals (the lifestyle doesn't thrill me, but what normal person spends a lot of time obsessing about what goes on in other people's bedrooms?), but then I read about guys getting caught in bathroom stings and suchlike and all of a sudden I understood them.
They're fighting against themselves and honestly believe that everyone else is waging that same internal war.

i had the same thought, as long as i dont make my char gay it shouldnt matter, and then anders an da2 came, it didnt even matter my char was strraight, he kept bugging me the whole game, and i couldnt switch him because he was the only healer in pt, so if they do a gay romance option at least make it completely optional and not an annoyance to normal straight guys
