Dante combos
Some new stuff in case you were sick of seeing the same combos from before. Dante looks like he'll be for advanced players (and players not named DC).

[QUOTE="Metamania"]You kinda got into the fighting community with Street Fighter IV, so you weren't really ready for just what a big deal MvC is to it. They're saying MvC3 might get a bigger draw at Evo 2011 than S4, even if Arcade Edition is used. Add to that the fact that we don't actually know just how much of a draw Mortal Kombat will be, and as much as I hate to say it, you kind of start to understand why they only ran five games.I was telling DC and JKS yesterday when I was on XBox Live, but I was at my local Gamestop, pre-ordering WWE All Stars, and the room was packed with people takling about MvC3 for the two hours that I was hanging out there, thinking about which teams they are going to use and so forth. I knew that MvC3 would be a big deal, but I didn't think it would be THAT big of a deal!
Oh and while I was there - copies of the PS3 version arrived yesterday, so it looks like the game will be in on time! :)

Well, actually, I got into the fighting community with 3rd Strike really. I started to take a serious interest in it through there, but that interest didn't explode into something bigger until SFIV/SSFIV came along.
That said, EVO's lineup should be pretty good. I'm not sure how well MK will do there, but if all five games hold up strong, Arcade Edition included if they decide to go with it, then this could be the best EVO thus far.

I'll have to disagree. I think the Evo lineup blows cattle - no 3rd Strike, no Melty Blood, no Tatsunoko...just adding even one of those would give me something to be excited about, but as it stands I'll be spending most of my time there on the unofficial tournaments.Yeah Meta, MVC3 has insane amounts of hype right now. The community is going nutso over this game. We'll see how many people stay with it, though. jks22112
Yeah man, it all depends on how much they are going to love the game. If it does very well, MvC3 should be a monster for the fighting community. It's a sequel that I imagine every die-hard MvC fan has been waiting for, so it should be a good time. I'm not going to look at MvC3 as a game of competition, but as something to have fun with and to improve every now and then. :)

I doubt it though.
Even outside of the hardcore community, this game is going to be a huge hit. They were very shrewd in the Marvel characters they selected, namely Thor and Captain America, both of whom are getting feature film adaptations this summer. That kind of cross promotion, along with the insanely detailed and deliberate advertising and character reveals, has made this release something substantially larger (at least in terms of buzz) than even the initial release of SF4 two years ago.
This may be a great fighter but it's also concentrated fandom propelled by mechanics that allow the casuals to pick up and play while giving the rest of us something meaty to gnaw on.
A local mom and pop shop in my area is supposed to be getting the game today so I'll drop some impressions later if I can snag a copy early.
If not, I'm actually going to the midnight launch at Gamestop despite the fact that I get up for work at 5:30 a.m. (Yea…I'm excited)
Wouldn't want it any other way. That what makes DMC fun. There's that simple mode, anyway right?Dante combos

Watched Taskmaster get played. He was cool and his arrow shots were impressive. Captain America has some great potential. I really liked Hagar but didn't know the buttons well enough to use him effectively. Hsienko seemed like she had potential as well, but again, i didn't know the buttons to pull of all of her moves. I think i got to see everybody but Chun Li in action. She Hulk was awesome because she can summon a car to run you over as a super ^What other characters did you try out when you played it? I keep thinking that Zero would be an awesome character to use, but I hear his super has to be executed close range for it to do any damage!
Metamania
Yeah, i just came from the store with LikeHaterade and got a chance to play a working copy of MvC3...MvC2 it a'int. The button layout was completely different (from what someone else was saying, it's like Tatsunoku v Capcom) and the entire feel of the game is loads slower than its predecessor. From what i played, Phoenix is extremely weak in the health department. She was taken down with one solid ground combo tagged into a hyper combo...full health to dead. Wesker and Zero seem like they can be super spammed if given to the right player. Some characters like Sentinel are pretty killer in an evil person's hands. The look of it is beautiful, but plan on taking at least a few days to adjust yourself to the new feel of everything. In the 1 hour i got to play it, i couldn't figure out the difference on how to punch low and how to foot sweep. I also didn't figure out how to switch out characters or tag my third teammate (although the controller at the store was a little busted).chicknfeetWhat store? I called up a local Gamestop and they said none can be opened, yet. Even for the display consoles... I want to check it out, too.
More combo vids - She Hulk, Akuma, Viewtiful Joe, C. Viper
Like Seth was saying in that one vid, everyone is sick.
Joe's Slow hyper is more deadly than I thought. It even slows down hit recovery!
King9999
I caved in and watched the Akuma combos. Akuma could be the guy replacing Ryu for me! So it could be a team of Akuma, Zero, and now deciding on a third...?
Hey guys.. I'm not following this thread very closely, but I have been obsessing over this game's coverage and reviews.
Is anyone else concerned by the 7.5's and 8's this game is getting? :\ I know I am. I'm almost certainly still going to buy it (hell, I have it payed off), but there's something about this game that's rubbing people the wrong way (unlike SF4 and SSF4 which recieved rediculously positive reviews).
What are your guys thoughts on this?

For me, I'm not too worried about the reviews. People are always going to be criticizing every little, minute detail, which is their job, but no one will be completely satisfied. No videogame is perfect. But for me, as long as the game is fun to play, who cares really? MvC3 may not be the most complete fighter out in the market, but as long as people are enjoying it to their heart's content, that's all that matters really.
As far as SFIV and SSFIV getting ridiculously high reviews, it's because it's the one game that every other fighter is forced to be measured by. Like Halo, like COD, if it ain't one of those games or something close to it, it's either good, but not good enough, or just isn't worth the time. People are too spoiled by some of the biggest franchises, if you ask me.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PSYmHiVysVM DC's Dark Phoenix theory in action. Though this may be against the CPU. jks22112
They're doing it wrong.

If Street Fighter IV is the gold standard for fighting games, the community isn't nearly as demanding as it used to be.The reviews aren't scaring me. TBH the game is pretty barebones. An arcade mode,(With pretty crappy endings..) trial, versus, and online. Nothing else for modes. That alone, will tell you the game won't get the greatest reviews. In fact, if I remember Marvel 2 didn't even get the greatest ratings. It all is about how the community takes it, and how exciting the game is to play with people.
Edit: Yeah, Marvel 2 got a 7.5 here from gamespot. and people enjoyed that game for 10 years.

Although, I was impressed by SFIV's Arcade netplay where a challenger can jump in.
When I first heard Arthur was going to be in this game, I just rolled my eyes. However, after seeing him in action, I definitely want to try him!
Aw Man, If I knew this was here I didn't need to make a whole new Topic.
But yeah, Can't wait for the Game to come out Tuesday.
Shoryuken.com MvC3 Wiki
Has lots of information, and is a good way for beginners to learn the mechanics. There are vids for each character so you can get ideas on how to use them and establish a team. I spent a few minutes browsing and I've already seen some cool tricks. MODOK is seriously going to be a pain to fight.

That IGN review essentially admitted that the core game is polished, accessible yet deep, and generally brilliant but because the game lacks a plethora of useless ancillary modes to satiate the casual consumer it gets docked numerically.
Also, that 8.5 for the graphics is adorable. I've played every major fighter this generation and MvC3 is one of the best-looking games on the market, period. The game is gorgeous in HD and runs like butter.
Going tonight for the midnight release. 13 hours from having a copy. :D I just got to get through work first. jks22112
I'm doing the midnight release as well. I'm excited. Plan to spend most of tonight in Training Mode and Mission Mode.
Quick Question For Everyone:
Do you guys think the official "Guide" would be worth it? I could get it for $15. I'm a Street Fighter 4 player (not a great one but not terrible either) who has never played a MvC game.
I'm setting my homepage to shoryuken.com after I get this game, I just wonder if this guide would be a helpful jumping-off point (combos, movelists, something to read when I'm taking a dump).
Let me know what you guys think.
