This was very typical of a Sony conference: slow, methodical, speaking as much to investors as to gamers. They didn't show what any of their big guns are doing, but the fact is we know they actually have big guns in the first place. They said there are going to be 20 first party titles releasing within the first year and 40 are in development - that knowledge is enough for me. They also laid out the business model in place with respect to the services at launch and those coming online later. It was very informative and consumer friendly.
On the other hand, MS's conference was a lot more fun, if you're a gamer. But what I felt were the best games on display in their conference are not exclusives, and the ones that are, like the very promising Ryse, are from companies they don't own. So what are they going to do AFTER this batch of games comes out?
To me, Sony's conference was them saying " We have a plan," and MS's Conference was saying "look at the handful of exclusives we bought!" And then Sony rubbed their balls in MS's face with that youtube video. Stating this as a person planning on buying both consoles - tonight must have felt really good for Sony.

That whole DRM segment was Sony just plain shitting on Microsoft. It was brutal and old school pwnage. Reminded me of the Crash commercials.Â
Reminded me of the PS Vita "$249.99!!!" and look how that turned out...
I feel like Sony is getting too much of a free pass for a mediocre conference really, don't get me wrong, allowing used games and no always online component is great, but there was a lot of bad too. For starters "Sony won't impose any NEW restrictions on PS4 games" basically means "Online passes are still a thing." And then the whole paying for online, that's a pretty big loss, as well as them basically handing the PS Vita another plate of scraps for the second year in a row. Then there's the games, so, many, multiplats. Even the best reveals of the show, FF15 and Kingdom Hearts aren't exclusive. The Order was the only exclusive game we didn't already know about that they showed off. All of the rest is either playable on Xbox One, PC or consoles I already own.
And my absolute favourite part? They still didn't show a single reason why the touchpad isn't a complete waste of time and money, the PS4 controllers cost £54 (!) and that's surely contributing to that cost, why???
These policies will last throughout the PS4's lifespan and will directly counter everything MS is trying to pull. Â Sony has taken sides with the gamers today, and that's a huge aid in this fight against greed and the abolishment of our long held rights, which in my eyes takes precedence over games any day. Â Better games will come later on so I'm not concerned about any lack of wares shown today. Â Sony has delivered in the past and I have no reason to think they won't this upcoming gen. Â Despite a few steps back, Sony has just taken an enormous stride forward in the correct direction this industry should be headed. Â They should be applauded.
