...and I'm completely excited. Heard a lot of great things about the game and I can't wait to try it out. I ordered a copy of the game on Amazon.com, thinking that it would be brand-new and sealed. It turns out that I was right. There's one problem though. The copy that I got in the mail was not NTSC, but PAL instead and if I remember correctly, PAL games are only compatible with PAL TVs and systems. I heard about the XBox 360 having region lockout, but I am not entirely 100-percent sure on this. I already contacted the seller that I got the game and brought up the issue with them, but I thought to ask on here anyway; is it possible for me to play this copy of the game on my system or should I have returned immediately and see if I can get an NTSC copy instead

Aw, that's a bummer :( Why does it happen with the good games?! Yes, PAL games are only compatible with PAL xbox 360 consoles (unlike the PS3 which is region-free). I don't think TV sets are a problem, I used to paly plenty of NTSC games via action replay back in the PS1 days. The problem is the console region lock, as you imagined. I say return the game and have it replaced with a NTSC copy ASAP

That's a good game. The gameplay was a little slow.

I already contacted the seller about the problem and I'm afraid of trying it out, so I've left is sealed and I'm waiting to hear back from them, seeing what they can do. Because I'm not happy about this. When I ordered this, the page said NOTHING about the game being a PAL version, so I was left with the impression that I would be given a NTSC copy. I hope they can fix this...otherwise, I'm going to be pissed!

Yeah, most 360 games are region locked, so you'll need an NTSC copy. And I don't even think Amazon.com even allows for people to sell PAL versions of games, so whoever sent it screwed up (now, Amazon.uk is another story).

Some games are region free, it's up to the developers. Actually the NTSC version of Lost Odyssey is listed as region free here:

http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-00-3-xbox360_compatibility_guide-49-en-84-o.html

I don't know about the PAL version. I searched Google I found a few people saying PAL version is also region free, but don't take my word. If you don't want to open the game then don't, check the product details on the website and see if it mentions anything.

PAL version is probably region free:

http://neogaf.net/forum/showthread.php?t=349494

For region locked games then obviously you need to have the correct console/software region.

BTW, Lost Odyssey is a great game. I enjoyed it very much, but then I accidentally deleted my saves (got to disc 3!) :(

It gets pretty hard near the end of disc 4. I need to finish it one day. Have fun...once you get a copy that can run on your X Box 360.

Oh, so the region lock is up to the devs then? I thought it was universal, like on the PS3.

Good luck, Mete. I hope you can get an exchange.

I don't know, but yes I assume developers can make the game region free if they want. Some games are region free for whatever reason.

I did read your post, but again, my 360 cannot play PAL games. It can only play NTSC games instead, so I would prefer an NTSC copy at this point.

PS: Even if people do say that it works, I can't trust that at all. One guy even said, in that NEOGaf thread, that even Wikipedia says so, but Wikipedia is a site that, while it may look up to date, can't be trusted either.

I know. My PAL system can only play PAL games. But if a game is region free it can be played on ANY system. Neogaf is a pretty good source, but I understand if you don't want to open the game or whatever.

At this point, I don't want to open it, in fear of not getting my full refund back if I did. I'm not going to take my chances until I do receive an NTSC game. And yeah, since you have a PAL system, I'm sure it would work on your system and that's great! But it just sucks that I can't open it at all...heard so many good things about it! Damn...

This topic is basically a big waste of time then. If you're not willing to try it after someone takes the time to research it for you, why did you bother making the topic? Lost Odyssey isn't that good anyway. You're not missing much. I didn't like it at all.

Did you read my question in my original posting? I wanted an answer if a PAL game would work on an NTSC system, because I was told that the XBox 360, just like the PS3, was region free, but I wasn't 100% sure on that.

In your opinion, maybe it wasn't that great. The game has gotten mixed reviews from people, but I won't know if it's good or not until I give it a full shot and believe me, I intend to! :)

I've bought games released in the NTSC regions and played them on my PAL system, because they've been region free. All versions of Lost Odyssey are region free. But if you don't take my word, loads of other peoples words or trust wikipedia, then it's just best that you return the game.

Right, and Salty told you that a PAL Lost Odyssey will work in an NTSC 360, but you said you don't want to try it. That's why I asked what was the point of the topic. PS3's and 360's are region locked. It's the games that decide if a game from one region can be played in another. All PS3 games are region free, that's why some people make the mistake of thinking the PS3 is a region free console. Microsoft leaves the decision of region lock to the makers of the game. Some 360 developers region lock their games, some don't. There are sites you can use to find out if a game is region locked, like the ones Salty used. Without actually testing the game, it's the best information you can go by.

In any case, I got word back from Amazon that I can't exchange the game for the right one, since the seller's inventory is constantly changing, but I am getting a full refund back and that it should show up in my bank account in two-three days time. F***!

Just test it once you get the refund, or do you have to send it first? That sucks man, more waiting, it's a good game.

Blimey, I can see why you're so upset. Man, a few months ago I had a couple friends pick that game up from the UK for £3.99 (preowned, resurfaced). I'd even send you a copy but we'd be back at square one, since it'd still be PAL :(

I could have tried it out, but decided against it. I already have it back in its return package with the right papers needed on it so that I can send it back through UPS. I'm going to try another store and hopefully, I can get it.

And yeah, Black, it's a bummer. Was really excited to try out this game, but I ended up getting it as a version that can't be played. In the meantime, I scored Bayonetta and Darksiders, so I'll be playing those until Lost Odyssey comes back. :)

wait, let me guess, you ordered on Amazon, it was Amazon.com North American US website, the seller was Gameline but it was fulfilled by Amazon, and they sent you the PAL PEGI-rated version of the game even though in the picture description it's a NTSC-U ESRB-rated one and it was sold on the US Amazon website leading you to believe that you should of received the NTSC version... if not, well, that's what happened to me, with Dirt 2, those pricks, looking at the feedback they've done it before, if they're the same ones you got it from be sure to give them the 1/5 star feedback rating they deserve I wouldn't open it, some people complain that the multi-region games sometimes have issues despite some saying they'll play, redeem codes won't work cross region also from what I hear, and this is just a misleading way for Amazon partner merchants to be selling games without telling you what you're ordering

Run to your local game shop and buy it. It's cheap nowadays.. and it's a wonderful game! I paid full price for it, $60, day one.. and not an ounce of regret. It's the last and best JRPG I've played this gen.

It's not taking a chance. They sent you the wrong item. If you tried it and it didn't work, you get in touch and say you want your money back because it's the PAL version. You didn't realise it was the PAL version until you tried it and it wouldn't work. If it does work (which it will), you don't have to bother sending it back.

The consoles are region locked. All PS3 games are region free. Only certain 360 games are region free. That's why there's sites that list if a 360 game has region protection or not. All PS3 games are listed as having no region protection. Check out the link below http://www.joystiq.com/2007/08/04/stranglehold-becomes-region-free-as-it-should-be/ If the PS3 was region free, it would've been pointless for Midway to region lock Stranglehold. It was possible for them to limit the game to certain regions. That is proof that the console is region locked. It's the games that decide the region they're played in.

Well, since I got my refund back, I ordered it from another store, this time from a store that is located in the US, so I should be getting the right copy this time. It won't be awhile until I find out if it's the right one or not, but hopefully, I made the right choice this time.

Since it's being made by Mistwalker, the company that's headed by the father of the Final Fantasy series, I'm sure it will be an excellent game. Again, I've heard that LO would have been a fantastic entry in the Final Fantasy series, so I'm stoked. Let's just hope I get the right copy this time.

I had great fun with Lost Odyssey but it did feel a bit too archaic at times. A bit...stodgy.

I still haven't beat the game (I'm at the very end and got sidetracked with the achievements in the ruins), but LO reminds me exactly why I loved JRPGs to begin with (and in some ways, hated as well, but those elements are minor compared to what it gets right). The writing is also superb when it comes to the dream sequences. I also liked the characters quite a bit -- Kaim is compelling and interesting, albeit pretty cliched.

I just didn't have much bad to say about the game based on the forty or so hours I pumped into it, and coming from me, that's saying something. One of the bright spots of the generation for me, assuming it doesn't fall apart in the last few hours or so.

I'm at the same part. I might pick it up again sometime.

A lot of people stop at those damn ruins: they are so tedious and time consuming. Standard japanese bad dungeon design. Luckily the rest of the game is brilliant. One of the best xbox exclusives, without a doubt

Not sure what you guys are referring to, but I won't let that stop me from playing and eventually completing LO when I finally get my copy...I'm hoping my second copy comes in sometime next week (my first copy was returned)!

Lost Odyssey is a great game, I'd have to agree with most on that. It feels more like a Final Fantasy game than FFXIII does - or FFXII for that matter. Hell, even FFX. The only annoying part for me in terms of difficulty was the first boss, as even if you're completely prepared the boss can destroy you very quickly if he performs his attacks in just the right sequence, and there's not a goddamn thing you can do about it. There's also a portion on the third disc that can be obnoxious as you end up being forced into using characters you may have neglected up until that point.

I didn't read all of the memories either but "outside" of the game, they're such wonderful reads. I still /sigh at the thought that there won't be a Lost Odyssey 2. So many possibilities after that ending.. Now that makes me sad..

Just so that I understand, are there any multiple endings in LO or just one?

Just one, but throughout the game, you get to read some of Kaim's (main character) memories from his past lives, they are really interesting and allow you to connect with the characters better on an emotional level....but the ending felt complete to me
