Sony teases "the future" of Playstation - countdown to 2/20/13

I think it'll be a quick one. They'll show the console, couple tech demos and at least one game, talk about its multimedia capabilities, and call it a day. I'm certain they're gonna be saving a lot for E3. They shouldn't have anything particularly noteworthy for the PS3 to show by then, so they should be able to focus primarily on the PS4 there.

That's what I think. E3 is the big one. And then you also have GDC in March. They have to save something for both those conferences, right?

I think we will see some specs, the actual console, the new controller and some tech demos. The Sony will end it with maybe one or two game trailers or walkthroughs. My money is on a Killzone 4 walkthrough. Uncharted 4 trailer and walkthrough will be saved for E3. 

Good thing is that Sony has enough exclusives to end every show with a big game. Killzone 4 or The Last Guardian on the 20th. Gran Turismo 6 or Sucker Punch;s new IP at GDC. God of War second team's new IP or Uncharted 4 to end E3. 

Then you have Ready At Dawn's new IP for PS4 as well. Teuf has been suspiciously absent in recent weeks, maybe they are putting in 16 hour days to put the final touches on the demos.

Oh and I forgot about Evolution Studios. My god! Feb 20th is going to be amazing. I am expecting this Motorstorm CGi trailer in realtime.

All of this may actually mean that E3 this year will be exciting for the first time in like 5 years.

It's the controller I'm most curious about- all this talk of motion sensors and LCD screens.. Not sure what to make of that.  Even if Sony reveals the system on the 20th, we could still be talking about a year or more before official release no?

MS is going to throw the biggest bash you will ever see. Last time they revealed it on MTV when they were going after the hipster crowd. Now they are going after everyone's living room. I wouldnt be surprised if they booked an hour on NBC/CBS or ABC to reveal this show. They are going to get every major celebrity out there and have usher blow everyone of them. 

Of course, they are also going to show the biggest game of this fall and steal the show with next gen Call of Duty by Infinity Ward. 

I think Bungie's Destiny might be a timed exclusive to the next Xbox, say for a year or something and then it could come to the PS4. Depending on how good the game is (and I have no reason to think it won't be good), it could make a compelling case for a launch title, even if it is only timed. I don't see Call of Duty having nearly as much attraction anymore.

Ridge Racer was a decent racing at the PSOne launch all those years ago and made some improvements over the years. Now look at it; it's now a Burnout Paradise clone, which is very unfortunate.

This has gotten my nerd juices flowing. It's so mysterious itcan't just be a game. Please be a PS4 announcement. :) After having a 360 this gen and getting rid of it last year I'll be moving back in with Sony next gen (used to have a PS1, PS2 and PSP).

Anyone else notice how the sigh at the end of the video is reminiscent of the PS1 opening logo? Could just be me getting too excited.

I hope with the next Gran Turismo Polyphony Digital goes for quality over quantity. Having a thousand plus cars is great, but if it means not properly modelling them and not polishing the heck out of all of the tracks, being limited to a few hundred vehicles (with all types of vehicles, not just supercars) would be better.

As for Evolution Studio's Motorstorm, yeah, that should be awesome. I just hope that for the love of God they forgo story segments (an idiotic suggestion made by Edge back when they reviewed Motorstorm 2) this time around :P.

I am really looking forward to Media Molecule's original game (which they state takes creation much further than LBP has).

Yeah, once upon a time Ridge Racer was a solid game, but I thought the most interesting thing about RR and Tohshinden (remember that one?) was how fast they were coded and how nice they looked (their ads were screenshots, something I am surprised we don't see more often).

Oh well, it's something we're going to have to hear about eventually anyways. I'm sure MS will do the same thing and really try to pitch more social network integration going into this generation. Gotta keep trying to appeal to that secondary market, unfortunately.

If i had it my way, there would be no leaks until E3 where Sony and MS reveal their consoles in full, along with the upcoming games. That would be our first look of the system. Showing it in Feb 20 in a limited fashion, then again at GDC then finally show the last pieces of the puzzle at E3 is anticlimactic. F1Lengend

Ok back on topic. So I've been thinking about this whole video recording and editing thing the PS4 is supposed to have. Do you think it will have functions like the ability to splice different clips together in to one video? Or the ability to add your own commentary on your video? And a big thing I've been wondering is if it would be possible to save more than your last 15 minutes. Just having a start/stop recording option or something. Or maybe have a setting that makes it so that when the next 15 minutes are up that 15 minutes are automatically saved to your hard drive and then the next 15 minutes of recording starts, and once that's up that is then saved and stacked on to the video that was just saved. That keeps going until you turn that feature off. That way you could record as much as you like in one go but keeping within the 15 minute limit thing. Or maye I'm talking crazy...

The rumor stated that the recording wouldn't take away many if any resources from the CPU/GPU, so maybe thats why they added a 15 minute limit.

Sony confirned that the event they have planned for on the 20th of Feb will be livestreamed. I hope most of you have the day off or are at least around to see it all happen!

Not counting The Last Guardian, The Last of Us, Beyond, Pupeteer and all those other new IPs Sony showed at TGS? ;p All are coming out this year. (With the exception of The Last Guardian of course. That's never coming out.

P.S It just hit me. We might just see The Last Guardian in 20 days. With PS4 quality graphics no less. Someone hold me.
